You are so right, I would never come to pay money for this nonsense rule.
I am thinking about fishing mörrum for a few years, only this rule makes it easy, I will forget about it.

Are all of the bites in the video from 2023? I can imagine it being frustrating the fish come loose so often. After I hooked and caught my first ever salmon this autumn want to try again next year and now also bring my father. I was thinking of trying in spring (April-May), have you ever fished that season in Mörrum and is there any difference in the presence of the salmon and them biting compared to autumn?
Anyway, nice video as always. I do hope you keep fishing for salmon and keep making these videos!

I lost 6 out of 10 fish in 2023. It's usually 3 out of 10… Barbless hooks suck. Spring fishing is tricky. It can be very fun fishing the first few weeks after the premiere, but it can also be the case, as this year, that the fish have already swum out into the Baltic Sea and then the river is basically empty of fish. In May, the salmon then begin to rise in the river. They are fantastic fish but few and incredibly difficult to attract to bite. The biggest chance of getting a fish in Mörrum is to fish in September, but if you have never experienced May fishing, I definitely think you and your father should give it a try. Lots of people, expectant atmosphere, a lot happens in nature in a short time and of course there is the chance to catch the fish of your dreams. Later part of May is preferred. /John

@@DrJohnTheAnglerJohnHedberg I've been tinkering with the catch-data of the past 10 years for Mörrum and when I look at May it seems the southern parts show the most catches. I see some catches in Vittskövle and very few in Svängsta, but much less than the classic pools. What do you think, is there more salmon the more south you go (in May) or is this partially due to the fact that more people fish there?
I personally liked the north best last autumn and I prefer not fishing in predefined pools, but if there's little to no salmon it might be pointless.

I assume they want to hurt the fish less with barbless hooks. But I´ve heard another story with these hooks. Namely, that they tend to hurt fish more due to it´s non secure caracteristics and therefore puncture the fish repeatedly instead of staying in one place in the fish´s mouth. I don´t know if that´s true or not, but I´ve surely thougt about it many times. Merry Christmas.
PS I´m sure you´ll be all jacked up next opening day :) Skitfiske

Yes that's how it is. Barbless hooks jump around in the fish's mouth and injure in several places. Those who claim that barbless hooks are better for the fish are not looking at the big picture. They seem to focus only on the unhooking itself. What happens between the bite and until the fish is landed, they don't think about - or don't understand. All hooks are bad for the fish in one way or another. Merry Christmas! /John

Don’t give up on barbless hooks so easily, maybe it’s the hooks themselves that don’t suit a barbless design. Also change how you play the fish, you want to keep a tight line, but not so tight that they are shaking there head and the hook out. I use barbless all the time, for many years and will not go back to barbed hooks.

No problem. Everyone should feel free to use whatever hooks they want. The problem in Mörrum right now is that I don't get to choose. Personally, I see hooks with barbs as a better option. /John
