This is the most realistic farming vlog or whatever you want to call it on UA-cam. Every single farmer watching this can relate to it. This is farming folks, it is not easy and we struggle financially, physically and more quietly... mentally.
Looking forward to "the fence posts part 2". I think your dad is wonderful, he's of a tough stuff generation when they made do and mended stuff. Didn't always look pretty but it did the job. I grew up on a farm many years ago and remember everything was held together with orange baler cord (I even remember having to plait lengths of it to make stronger ropes of the stuff, top tip there!!) Great video. Thank you.
The Orange Baler Twine is more commonly called "Glenavy Belt" :-) from where I'm from. I haven't however seen anyone using an artificial bag as a hood to keep the teeming rain off them, although not too many people use 25kg bags of artificial other than the 1 tonne bags.
At 6 mins 42 secs Alan mentions 'a bit of a wetter SLAP'. I'm farming just outside Ramelton in County Donegal which is a plantation town where Ulster Scots is still used frequently among the farming community. We use the word SLAP here to refer to the entrance into a field while the rest of the Republic seem to use the word GAP. My friends and i have discussed for years was our use of the word SLAP just the result of someone mishearing the word GAP and wrongly using the word for years and it just caught on. After hearing Alan use the word SLAP i now think it probably has an Ulster Scots origin. Anyway i love these videos of Alan and aul Tom and the banter between John and Alan. Great work guys.

he'll get there slowly
they might pop first ha
Sell some scrap to pay for some gates and posts
yes yes, that's the plan, just need to get a day and send it on
Any story behind that auld cattle lorry? Looks like it's been sat there a while
will have to leave that for alan to answer, dont know much about it
had it for when we used to show cattle
Tom looks to be in good form is that a cattle truck up the back was Tom cattle dealer as well
will have to get Alan to tell us about the lorry
he done a bit of lorry work years ago but that lorry here was for when we used to show cattle
Check if theres export on the old lorry and throw the 2 chassis on Facebook £100 cash each see if they go, more money than scrap value
every penny helps

Redding up is getting the general jobs done that are done daily. There’ll be a few phrases I’m sure people haven’t heard of lol
the redding up is continuous lol

yup, just need to get it took to scrap man and try get a few more gates bought
