    Excellent techniques. Tim Waid clearly knows his stuff. I notice some haters on this page who mouth off but I don't see them out showing their stuff. Anyone can arm chair quarterback from a nice cushy chair safely behind a computer screen.
    Tim Waid is the real deal. His footwork is second to none. Great movement, great fighting techniques.

    I HAVE DONE KRAV MAGA at a higher level then most people in the USA, HAPKIDO and MUAY THAI, I have seen and met Tim Wade personally. Anyone that believes his techniques don't work should ask for a demonstration. One session of knife tapping and you wont be able to type the next day let alone continue your attack. PTK is solid. I have not found any martial art that is more effective for realistically dealing with an edged weapon attack.

    I've been getting into Tim Waid videos. I wish there was more. He doesn't get around a lot on youtube. I learned silat mixed with escrima from Burma. I learned from a guy who had been practicing since the age of six. His "uncle" taught him, who wasn't actually his uncle. Tim gave me a bunch of great ideas. Thanks, Tim!

    In the real world, knives kill. Dojo clips in controlled environments with controlled staged scenes/opponents are fine. But, when a large crazed aggressor comes crazily with a blade you may survive with these techniques; then again, you may not. There NO guarantees. The best defense IMHO is to not get the situation in first place, if possible, and if not, get out WITHOUT EGO, (ego usually=DEATH), if possible. ONLY fight a knife if NO other choice. SIMO

      Well said....when i was in my late teens i had the misfortune to get attacked by a gangbanger with a blade..my footwork saved me (which was all we drilled in my arnis class for the first three months) and i ran afterwards..i got knicked twice but that was better than being gutted and i had a newfound respect for the" boring" footwork drills. What saved me most was he pulled out the blade then lunged instead of concealing it but in anycase in ran and lived another day which definitely was not guaranteed.

    What people aren’t understanding is this isn’t a blocking technique. In motion and the heat of the moment, he is attacking the weapon hand and striking it.

    Excellent video. The reality of disarms is that they are extremely hard to pull off. However, if you have already broken your attackers arm, or at the very least, hyperextended their elbow, you stand a far better chance. As noted, the elbow shot by itself may be enough to dislodge the knife.

    What I like about PTK is that its training against experienced fighters...someone with even basic PTK skills can take out a regular street fighter...or at least evade a fight

  • @lycan-zp9xf
    @lycan-zp9xf 10 років тому +1

    While anyone with any slight training knows any basic disarm will more than likely require a wrist or weapon grab, I personally dislike trying to grab the wrist while the attack is taking place like he is doing. If you are confronting fast or powerful attackers, they can either retrieve their limb or force their way out of the hold. I personally prefer to close distance and gain the initial grab after I acquire some "body" control.

      Je suis d'accord avec vous, si votre assaillant pèse 90 kg de muscles, ce n'est pas la malheureuse petite saisie de ce professeur qui arrêtera l'attaque.
      La technique de ce professeur est une utopie.
      Désolé mais je ne parle que l'espagnol et le français.

    Most of the knife attacks I've seen happen at much closer range and 9 times out of 10 the victim does not see the knife until it is being pulled back out of them.

    i got attacked by a banger it didnt come head on but from behind and if not for my footwork drills that i was forced to do countless times before i was allowed to do anything else i would be dead...sure i got knicked but who expects to go unscathed ? i was just happy to survive. was he an expert? dont know didnt ask but do you really need to be when you are armed and the other person isnt? i do know my friend survived shank attacks in prison thanks to his sayoc kali and pekiti tirsia training.

    that block/parry with his right hand and then go up with the same hand to block the second slash with the same hand is very atypical for kali. Also, NOT punching/eye-jabbing/... with your other hand while you defend doesn't look like your typical FMA moves. I call bullshit on this one.

  • @DavidKBasta

    Best knife defense. Is grab hold of wrist lock and arm holding knife. Now you have the control

  • @theory501
    @theory501 12 років тому

    All agreed running is always preferred to getting cut up but you can never anticipate the situation. For instance what if you have your children with you? What if you have a loved one or a friend who can't run? This sort of training is useful for those situations where options are limited. Also for anyone who is thinking of stabbing them with the knife after disarm just remember that in court it will count against you as this is a concious decision to inflict extra damage.

  • @ieltsurumqi1453
    @ieltsurumqi1453 11 років тому +1

    Like this. The real knifer is usually an assassin not a dueler. No mano e mano bullshit. He wants to kill you not impress you. He'll have someone distract you from the font and kill you from the rear. The first you will be aware of the knife is when in goes in. Nasty stuff but that's the reality. Not to say what you see here isn't good training it is.

    Obviously the video is for demo purpose, so the attacker doesn't look REAL. It helps emphasize and show the technique of defense.
    Obviously you're right as well that with REAL KNIFE EXPERTS you got very little chance to survive.
    Then again, some wanabee thugs on the streets aren't pro with their knives so eventually you can use some various techniques.

    running is NOT always the ultimate answer. what if the attacker got better pacey legs and lung?...or...will you run, leaving your girl when a crook coming towards you?...preparing with correct concepts of MA can be your last resort and rising your chance to survive.

    I wish this guy Tim had a school in South Florida. I'd love to check a few classes out. From what Ive seen on his website ptk-smf.com this guy is no joke. All my martial life Ive been told, "If you can handle a guy with a blade, a punch is nothing." Why if this is true doesnt everyone train in blade arts? I never found out. Wish I had.Anyone in The Boca/ Boynton Beach area that teaches his system?

    • @lordfellhand1695
      @lordfellhand1695 9 років тому +1

      "Why if this is true doesnt everyone train in blade arts?" Because it's not true, it's total BS. If you get attacked with a sharp knife and you can't improvise a weapon or get something between you and the attacker, you're in deep, deep trouble. You ARE going to get cut. The only little bit you have to work with is how deeply and how badly, but you better be prepared to bleed. No matter what a person's training is a knife attack is a VERY serious situation with no guarantee of avoiding terrible wounds or even death.

    • @mac2flip
      @mac2flip 9 років тому

      Lord FellHand i don't know what total BS in training in blade arts. training in blade arts, you'd learn know how to ' improvise a weapon or get something between you & the attacker in which you just mentioned...isn't that also a way of handling a guy with a blade?

    • @lordfellhand1695
      @lordfellhand1695 9 років тому +1

      mac2flip It's the mindset behind anyone thinking "If you can handle a guy with a blade, a punch is nothing" as if anyone can just routinely "handle" a knife attack. This is like saying if a guy can "handle" a bear attack, a dog is nothing. Bear attacks and knife attacks are both things a person would be doing well just to survive in relatively one piece with enough blood still in their veins to keep them alive. No one has a "handle" on shit like this. And as far as the shit you see in most of these youtube videos...

    • @xxFairestxx
      @xxFairestxx 9 років тому

      Lord FellHand just a krav maga key board warrior, hoarding his yellow belt in taekwondo...gotta love mcdojo fan boys. If you can't handle deep shit, you haven't trained enough.

    L'idée est bonne, mais la maîtrise de la clé est carrément très mauvaise.
    Vous devriez prendre quelques cours de HAPKIDO ou d'aïkido pour vous perfectionner dans les saisies de poignet et travailler plus sérieusement les clés.
    Vos déplacements sont assez médiocres voire même mauvais.
    Essayez de vous trouver un professeur d'aïkido, je vous conseille même le HAPKIDO entraînez-vous pendant une ou deux années et refaites-nous la même vidéo.
