- Tim Waid, a certified Master Instructor of the Pekiti-Tersia Kali System, informs us about Kali and knife fighting and what makes Filipino martial arts different from other styles. Tim also currently serves as Tactical Training Instructor to the Armed Forces of the Philippines, Philippine National Police, government agencies and private business.
thanks Tim Waid for keeping the filipino Kali system alive
great job!
I do love this sytem. I have studied many other martial arts, but this is the only one to teach the timing of combat; ahead, equal or behind. Whoever controls the timing controls the fight. Good Stuff
I study PTK and we learn all three at once. Impact bladed and empty hand.
Excellent explanation of the Filipino martial arts! Good video and intro to Kali.
Just want to say that Don Draeger agreed with what you are saying about weapons before empty hands. He told me in the 1980s that he believed men always fought with weapons first. It seems logical as, when your life is at stake, you will take any advantage you can. Clearly, fighting with a weapon gives you an edge. It is often clear to see that certain empty hand systems evolved from weapons; for example Xing Yi from spear fighting etc.
I like this Burmese silat mixed with escrima I learned. I specialize in the double, double edged sword with forward, reverse and mixed grips. Same grips with knives and sticks. All possible grips with staff and pole arms. I have this really soft empty hands. I was blowing glass the whole time I learned it, which is real precision work with the hands. I had a great time and made good money and enjoyed eating Thai, Indian and Mexican food of the highest quality in beautiful Santa Cruz, California! Peace. Mike.
If you get the opportunity to cross train in PKT, I highly recommend it! I train in JKD and Inosanto blend Kali, but I've been cross training in Pekiti-tirsia as well, taught by one of Tim Waid's direct students in San Francisco. Definitely an eye opener.
that looks like Five Point Academy in Chinatown!! awesome
I use my 2 Sig Sauers, they work very well
Great video .............. Question ........ Silat Vs Kali for knife fighting ? which would be better ?
Hi Mr. Waid, come back to Bacolod and visit Sea Breeze Hotel again. We are looking forward to really see you. You forgot many things when you left.
where in nyc can one train in Pekiti Tersia Kali???
@DuykRuyk ME TOO!
I have trained with Leo Gaje, he is very knowledgeable but is no "supreme grand master". he could learn a lesson in humility from Guro Dan Inosanto...
Amen
we mean the supreme grand master of our system. When you assume you make a ass out of you and me.
Yes. But sticks are not like swords. If I were walking through a game of Diablo I would expect there to be a scimitar just lying there on the ground. When i am thinking sword I am looking for an impossibility. When I am thinking one foot symbol I see ruler, I see bottle, I see qigong balls, pens.
