Did you know who most affected by motorcycle crashes? People returning from deployment in the military, why? Well because they go for so long off the bike when they get home they are not required to take a MSC “Moto safety course” this is sad because they give so much for this country to make it back in civilian life and sadly are so ready to get back on their bike something usually goes wrong…. I post this to bring attention and to ensure whoever is watching this video if you are a active or reservist please be careful on the road when you get back. We need you here 🙏 ride safe Yal!
I know this is an old comment but I would like to point out that courses are required (at least for the Navy, I assume the other branches are the same) in order to ride on base. The Navy even provides the course for free as well as an advanced course and you have to get a refresher every few years. People do crash generally coming back from a deployment since it's just been a while.
Starting on a new bike is really nerve wracking because of the fear of damaging the bike, but the safety factor of being fairly certain that everything works properly mitigates the worry to some extent. On an old cheap used bike you need to know quite a bit to assess whether it is safe or not. I started on a new RS660 which is pretty comparable. The main risks for a beginner with a powerful bike are whisky-throttle, going faster than you are ready for, not understanding how much counter-steering is needed to get the bike to lean at speed and not understanding that down shifting can cause the back wheel to skid if you aren’t skilled. If you practice gradually with all of these things, especially with increasing throttle and speed you should be fine. Of course all the other fundamentals still apply. I don’t remember that I even came close to crashing until I had 10,000 km and quite a few track days under my belt. More recently I’ve had few close calls that were my own fault because I was riding aggressively and got caught out on different occasions by target fixation, clumsy new winter gloves and sand in the road. I have to remind myself that a skilled rider isn’t safe without road strategy, vigilance, judgement and continued practice. I highly recommend practicing emergency brake-and-swerve every time you go out!
Glad I came across this channel. I’m in the process of purchasing my first bike and it’s a ZX-6R. So excited but It’s always good to get a reality check for your reality check.
@@skyking6989 there is much more to learn than you think. A 400 will still do 120mph and do a 0-60 in under 5s. Also I wouldnt recommend buying an expensive bike as your first bike, bc you are gonna drop it.
I had my 400 5 months before I got a r6. It definitely made me a better rider and respect the bikes power more. I definitely could have started on a 600 but I’m glad I didn’t. I miss my 400 for corners and the riding position was wayyyy more comfortable. I’ll probably get another 400 eventually.
Insightful things to us new riders bro. A 600 ( especially 636) is no toy. All that power for a 405lb bike is no joke. I tell other new riders, to gear up! Dress for the fall not the ride!💯💯

Drawbridge grates is what gets me. Especially wet from rain😮. First drawbridge i did on my first motorcycle was during rain. Was more brave skydiving from 13,500 feet. Seriously
Bikes don't have a big enough magnetic signature to make the traffic lights change. If you roll your back tire to the line, it leaves plenty of room for a car to get close enough to trigger it. Coax them if you have to. It might surprise you how many people are hesitant to get too close at a light. We bikers can be somewhat touchy about being crowded.
As someone who grew up on dirtbikes and quads, i feel pretty confident in starting on a 600, i know it will be a huge change, more power, itll weigh a lot more but i think having that background should aid quite a bit in the feeling for a motorcycle, if any of this makes sense, but i am so ready for the scared, adrenaline and excitement from starting on a 600 pretty soon!
I'm planning on getting either a CBR600F4i or a VFR as my first big bike (im on a 125cc bike now, for the licence I will be learning on 600cc). Can't wait to be there
I hear you - i just jumped on a 650cc Ninja i bought recently after 10 years no riding. Technology obviously improved since my 2002 748. For me it was just getting used to the fact it revs like crazy jumps every time i kick gears. Never ceases to give me a thrill.
Got myself zx6r 636 2006 with no power modes or abs and last bike i rode was 50cc i have to say it kinda feels easier to ride the 600 since it wants to be upright and keep going straight
So glad I got one as my first bike. Yeh, I was nervous about riding it. But, the difference between this and the riding school 500cc bike was like going from a 747 passenger airliner to a fighter jet. It was the thought of riding it and what might happen that scared me. It’s not scary when you get going and you control the throttle.
Soon as I pay off my scooters for the family, iam getting my first real bike since I was a teenager, 45 now and going with the kawasaki z650rs, new 24 models have traction control plus z650rs has a slipper clutch, low seat height, not very heavy, perfect beginner 650 Definitely recommend a brake light pulsating module and Denali extra auxiliary brake light, plus I try to put yellow tint on my head light even if just a small yellow tint circle not covering the whole light , it gives good contrast visibility Definitely can make a difference
Everything felt so natural when I hopped on my CBR. The only riding I’ve ever done before I bought my bike was a couple minutes up and down the road on my buddies dirtbike. It’s not too hard to start riding and it’s so much fun. Definitely need to respect it or it will get away from you.
Actually, I noticed you pulled in 3rd, and you need to stay like that until you get a steering stabilizer. It may make you tank slap if your tire raises a little if you pull from 2nd at 50. You NEED that stabilizer.
yah that’s actually one thing im afraid of. i heard horror stories about those tank slappers. im looking into getting one soon. thanks for the insight 🤙🤙
I had one happen to me at 87 and it was underwhelming. I expected way more danger, but it was VIOLENT. I let my arms relax and let off the throttle and it straightened out. I probably got lucky. After that, I put a little more preload on the back spring and did not do hard pulls until I got a stabilizer

KNOWING THAR THEY SHOULD BE RESPONSIBLE ENOUGH TO TAKE THE MS COURSE ON THEY OWN!!!!
RESPECTFULLY
I know this is an old comment but I would like to point out that courses are required (at least for the Navy, I assume the other branches are the same) in order to ride on base. The Navy even provides the course for free as well as an advanced course and you have to get a refresher every few years. People do crash generally coming back from a deployment since it's just been a while.
@kristoferjohnson6917
I can attest that this is true on Lejeune, New river, and Cherry point.
Thank you ill definitely keep this in mind
I highly recommend practicing emergency brake-and-swerve every time you go out!
i got a ZX6-R 2001 and i gotta say, i absolutely love it, and like you, it scares the shit out of me
ayyy congrats!! love those 2001s
Glad I came across this channel. I’m in the process of purchasing my first bike and it’s a ZX-6R. So excited but It’s always good to get a reality check for your reality check.
So, you’re at the dealer filling out paperwork? Weird comment.
Been going back and forth to start on a 400 vs 600. Leaning towards the 600
600 is deff doable. you’ll deff learn slower than if you start on a 400
@MedusaMoto thing is I was told on a 400 you outgrown it so fast. You'll never really outgrow a 600
@@skyking6989 there is much more to learn than you think.
@jvillain9946 I never heard of a 400 that can go 120. I will also add I'm not a total noob. I've ridden v twin cruisers

Insightful things to us new riders bro. A 600 ( especially 636) is no toy. All that power for a 405lb bike is no joke. I tell other new riders, to gear up! Dress for the fall not the ride!💯💯
yessirrrr those are some wise words to live by. lowkey that’s something i need to tell myself every time. 100 percent agree with you 🤙🤙
Mmmh, i started on a zx6r 06 636. I just had the owner drop it off at my brothers house. I payed him, and I learned how to control the throttle on neutral (i already knew standard), and I also just watched a bunch of UA-cam videos. Then I took off on a 40minute drive to my house.

yeppp lmao
Drawbridge grates is what gets me. Especially wet from rain😮. First drawbridge i did on my first motorcycle was during rain. Was more brave skydiving from 13,500 feet. Seriously
Bikes don't have a big enough magnetic signature to make the traffic lights change. If you roll your back tire to the line, it leaves plenty of room for a car to get close enough to trigger it. Coax them if you have to. It might surprise you how many people are hesitant to get too close at a light. We bikers can be somewhat touchy about being crowded.
I had a Harley breakout and I always asked people to trigger the light for me lol

I’m always STIFF AF when you post videos. Keep up the great work, brother!!

Soon as I pay off my scooters for the family, iam getting my first real bike since I was a teenager, 45 now and going with the kawasaki z650rs, new 24 models have traction control plus z650rs has a slipper clutch, low seat height, not very heavy, perfect beginner 650
Definitely recommend a brake light pulsating module and Denali extra auxiliary brake light, plus I try to put yellow tint on my head light even if just a small yellow tint circle not covering the whole light , it gives good contrast visibility Definitely can make a difference
I started on a 600cc a 2005 at that and i love it been riding about 6 months also i have no fear of it
Everything felt so natural when I hopped on my CBR.
