Beautiful! Her live version of Cry Baby is the best thing on the internet!! Bobby Hatfield of the Rightous Brothers also does an excellent version of Summertime.!
I absolutely agree with your comments at the end about what else can you do? You can try to keep their music alive. And that's exactly what you are doing.
I know exactly what you mean by "her voice can take a punch". Especially once you explained it. One of her great abilities was to use resonance and lots of harmonic overtones, and she was amazingly in control of them a lot of the time. Singer's Formant: en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Squillo
Wow, I've been waiting for this for a long time. I'm so glad you decided to do this. And yeah there's a whole lot that could be said about just the physics of the acoustics of what she's doing with her voice at the end, I mean all the way through, but at the end she does that descending final phrase and she's got like these higher harmonics in her voice that become so dominant they're almost like this super faint background vocal, but much higher, and also descending melodically along with her main voice. It's just so beautiful. And it's a classic Gershwin song from years before that. But was still really beloved at the time here. And really in lots of places. And Big Brother and the Holding Company is just absolutely perfect for this.
This live version is the best. Check out 1969, live Stockholm, same concert as Summertime, Work Me Lord. Janis,1969 live, The Tom Jones show, Little Girl Blue Janis live, 1967, Monterey Pop Festival, Ball and Chain.
You also must do her live version of Cry Baby , Bobby Hatfield of the Righteous Brothers does a killer version of this song but his is shorter but amazing.
This song involved horns. So, it was not Big Brother and the Holding Company. One of the reasons she left them is that she wanted horns and they thought that was straying too far from their target. This would be Full Tilt Boogie.
My favorite song from her (It's a cover song) - so much emotion and power. Never will we have another Janis Joplin.
That voice was all Janis. No professional training or anything. Simply 100% pure raw talent

Your exactly right. Queen 👑 Janis does sound like she's singing 2 or 3 notes at a time. Perfect description of her magic ✨❤
My favourite version of this song by a mile, simply beautiful, great backing from Big Brother and the Holding Co and stunning vocals from Janis.
Not Big Brother, The Kozmic Blues Band. The only one here from Big Brother was Sam Andrew on lead guitar.
Grandissima Janis ❤ inimitabile ❤
janis is one of a kind

Janice's voice can not only take a punch, it can give one too.
Oooh yes ,thank you did this soooou amazing 😂❤
They said she was polyphonic. She could harmonize with herself.
Ace, you had the same face we had back in the late 1960s when we heard Janis for the first time. Great reaction. Love your channel. Subscribed.
Your so right ❤
My favorite! Love her songs!
FYI BB King also suggested that Janis' voice was two voices at once.
Texas legend 🙌 ❤RIP my Janis 🎉and God bless 🙌
She is so amazing!
❤ I like your reaction❤
This song is from a Frankfurt concert (1969, Germany). Back band: Kozmic blues band.
Me and Bobby Magee must be next my friend. Peace out ✌️ ☮️
This live version is the best.

This video is better to me than her studio.❤ studio is awesome, this one of the charts for me. And it's live.
The best woman singer🤘

Multiple notes at once wailing out from a whisky and cigarettes voice. Another member of the 27 Club.

Maybe: Studio version
Way before my time but we've lost many amazing individuals aged 27.
RIP Janis
ʏᴀʜ😁👍ʏᴀʜ♥️ᴀᴄᴇ‼️
Have you ever seen the SNL clip of Steve Martin singing "King Tut"? It is hilarious and so catchy.
same concert need to react to work me lord your mouth will drop this ain't nothing !
Leeann Rimes does a good version of this!
She never had any kind of voice training. 100 percent self taught.
Janis' vocals were untrained, off pitch at times, raw, and soaked in Southern Comfort and Marlboros. She was something special!
Late 60’s I think…….
I sY Gain U too damn cute
No one sang it like Ella Fitzgerald, and this is not even close.
