    I had my stroke last 2015, I have been in therapy so many times but I still have spacity in in my left leg and my foot still drop. I drag my foot most of the time I walk. Nobody really explained to me what really was going on with my leg. Only in your video I truly understand what I have, why I cannot lift my leg and my knees are not bending when I try to walk. Thank you very much. I hope it's not too late for me to perform the exercises in you video so that I can walk again a bit normal without dragging my foot. Thank you again.

    Just found your videos and love them. My issue is I didn't have a stroke. I have MS and lost ability to walk in 2016. Could your exercises help me? Since seeing your video, I now feel I suffer from serious spasticity.

      I’ve got ms too, since 1998. I also feel down the stairs, 2020, too impacting my head into the wall. These simple exercises are really helping me too. I’m slowly learning how to walk confidently again. My right leg has some spasticity still. Carrots, magnesium citrate and glycerinate help me. Tai chi walking is also helping.

    Hi Dr.Tobias...
    This is Cindy, I care for my Sister whom is in her 70's and had her stroke 4 or 5 years ago. I work with her 3 days out of the week, our goal is to be able to transfer bed to chair, chair to car, car to chair then back to bed...she's in the early stage of being able to transfer, I have her working on sit to stands, yet I notice she leans alot toward her involved side. Most of your videos you mention leaning towards your uninvolved side....my question is...what can I do to help her from falling toward her involved side...thank you so much for what your doing your videos are a blessing for her and me... may God bless you in so many ways....Thank you..

    I'm a physical therapist who scours UA-cam looking for information on exactly what you're talking about as far as neglect, specificity, progressions, so please keep up the good work. a common problem that I see is that " frog-leg position" with the hip pain if you could talk more about that that will be greatly appreciated

    Dear Dr Tobias, for a person who can actually walk with a cane but not nicely and only small distances, do you think that he should not walk (at all or only to the bathroom) until he goes through all these steps for weeks(or more), with other words walking with his bad pattern would ruin the good pattern "in progress" between excercices? Maybe its a silly question. After watching a lot of videos related to rehabilitation, I think you are the only person on youtube who really gets into details with this illness and the stages of recovery. Some little explanation in image in the corner would be helpful for people who don't speak english, like my father. But your videos are spot on, keep up the good work!!

      Great question! I tell my patients to keep walking limited and spend the majority of the time on these exercises. For example, if you have a wheelchair, use that for long distances and spend MULTIPLE hours a day performing these exercises. For the reason that you stated. All that work goes to waste if you go right back to the cane once you have finished the exercise. I hope that makes sense. Also, thanks for the feedback on the videos. I am taking in ALL the feedback and hopefully the videos will continue to get better thanks to all of you :)

    I've been looking for the answers you've provided in your last three video's for the last 8 months. My neurologist basically ignored me when I questioned him directly. THANK YOU so much. I've fallen three times because my affected ankle supinated while I was walking. It really hurts to walk on the side of your ankle. Your video's go after that directly and I'm grateful. I've subscribed because you seem to understand exactly what I'm going through. So you've become my leading resource.

    I had two neck and two lumbar surgeries. I have gone to different rehabs in town and Houston and Dallas.
    The first time I saw your video on spasticity vs foot drop I saw the difference and it gave me some hope because I thought that I would never get better. My left foot foot does not flex and I start dragging it after it gets tired after walking with my walker for a short distance. I used to just walk with my walker and it really never did a whole lot for me. But when I saw your video where you recommend standing as much as possible and when walking putting all the body weight on the back foot and alternating between the two feet. Well I have to say that this has helped me a lot. The back of both legs feel stronger and my back feels stronger. I am able to stand longer and i don't rely on my walker all the time but just for support. This happened after the first two or three days. Tomorrow Monday 3/22/21 will be a week. I will continue to do this kind of exercise to see where it leads me. Oh, I stand on each leg with all my body weight for 30 seconds. So far I am feeling great and I feel that progress is taking place. Thank for your videos and your exoertise.

    HOW ABOUT dizzyness? I can't do much at all because of it.. I'm really bitter about therapists telling me I'm not TRYINGHARD ENOUGH!! do you believe that!! A stroke is something only the victim knows about.. sorry people..I'm really pissed about doctors and therapist telling us how we feel...and what to do..

    • @rehabhqofficial
      @rehabhqofficial  4 роки тому

      I hear that a lot. Totally legit to feel that way. You are correct that we can't fully understand what it feels like to be a "stroke survivor". and I am sorry a therapist made you feel like you were not trying. Just know, most of us really want to help you get better and so where we lack in knowing exactly what it feels like to suffer a stroke, we try and help in the areas we can. We study the brain, and movement, and concepts in learning and do the best we can to help you. I am not sure that will make you feel any better. But I hope others might be able to offer you words of encouragement.

    I am a 73 and recovering from a stroke, but I started from a condition well beyond where this video finished. I also watched all the preceding progression videos in series and I can't say enough HOW HELPFUL it is to watch the whole progression!!
    If you understand the underlying causes that the specific exercise is addressing, you can more effectively concentrate on the particular muscle/s or motion/s needed to achieve the objective. That's what works best for me and most stroke patients I speak to. BRAVO Tara, I'm finding GREAT value in the videos you put out from basic to advanced. Thank you!

    Hi Tara. I have a leg strengthening question. When I'm sitting on a stationary bike and pedal forward I can now keep my left leg straight like normal. However, when I pedal backward (to strengthen my hamstring) I struggle with keeping my entire leg straight. My left leg turns outward and my ankle rubs against it. What is causing this? Is it a weak hip or adductor?

    • @rehabhqofficial
      @rehabhqofficial  4 роки тому

    Great videos and really helpful. I have had a thalamic stroke and doing well after one year. However a have much sensory loss in both left arm and left leg and torso. Often with numbnees of planter surface of foot that interferes with walking and pins and needles in fingers that prevents gripping. Can you recommend treatments for these sensory loses ? Regards Malcolm

    • @rehabhqofficial
      @rehabhqofficial  3 роки тому

      Hi Malcolm! Thank you for watching and for commenting. Generally speaking, sensory issues from a thalamic stroke are difficult to eliminate completely. However, in general, desensitization exercises (gradual introducing typical sensory experiences to effected areas) can help to increase your threshold. I hope that makes sense and I hope that helps. I plan to do a video on this. so stay tuned! 😊

      Pedro Rossi I would pick 1 video series and focus on that specific problem for a few weeks spending minimum 1 hr. More is better when it comes to neuroplasticity 😊

    I’m having a hard time understanding your terminology doriflex, supinate, etc, could you dumb it down a bit. Maybe it’s just me. I don’t know

    • @rehabhqofficial
      @rehabhqofficial  5 років тому +1

      absolutely!. Sorry about that. Supination is when the foot turns in. In other words, when you roll to the outside of the foot. Does that make sense?

      In future videos I will use more diagrams like I did in the first video in the series. Also go back and waltch this video. There are more of an in depth explanation of the movements involved in a spastic pattern: ua-cam.com/video/aMcazVftpaA/v-deo.html

    Dr. Tara, I cannot express my total gratitude to you! I live in Germany and I love your exercises and your explanations. After a year of lots of exercise and therapy, this is the first time after a stroke in the middle of the life, to get full information and explanations on what happens in the body. You are a life changer! So thankful for your help!! 🙋‍♀️👍🤗💖🙏

    Thank you for your video.
    I need more stroke gait. My big problem is I cannot make independent step. I can do elliptical no stop for 8 minutes; recamber bike; even Pilates chair, but I cannot stay a second on foot to make a step. If you can advised.

      stick with these activities if you are having trouble with the standing part of the walking. If it is the swinging part, try this exercise ua-cam.com/video/EX_8l4usCRk/v-deo.html. Avoid the Nustep because it make the "extensor spasticity" worse. But really your best thing you can do is spend as much time as possible on these standing activities. Walking with bad form will reinforce the "problems". I hope this helps :) Thanks for watching and being a part of this community!

      Thank you very much for your respond.
      But I had broke my left shoulder on April of this year while I were walking on treadmill. This exercise I cannot do on upper part of my body.
      For some reason when I walking w walker I constantly, non intentionally, raise my right shoulder. And I have weak medium gluteus muscles from both side of hips.

    Spasticity on the hand

  • @nickscognarealtor4045

    First of all thank you for what you're doing here. I sometimes get confused as to which is your bad leg, in my case it's my right so if you could possibly indicate which is your bad leg in your videos with a ribbon or something, that would be greatly appreciated. Progress is slow but with all the information I'm sure I'm doing much better than before. My gait stutters, as I bring my bad leg forward my weak hip can't seem to pull the leg and knee up to for normal step. The hyperextension has really improved 2 since the knee locks less and less. But with lots of treadmill and elliptical work, forwards and backwards, I'm sure it will continue to improve. The shoulder arm and hand are also affected but I'm working on them too. Your videos are excellent and very very helpful. Thanks again.
