Loved this mod back in the day. You gonna cover The Nameless Mod some time? At the time it was the best mod I'd ever played, its ambition, humor and scale were like nothing I'd ever played, it was legit full release game quality.
I played it like 10 years ago, the scope people went for a inside joke is still crazy. Not sure if it would be fit for a video since it's a very hit and miss mod.
Oh wow, someone else that actually played Redsun! As you point out, there's a clear attempt at story that falls apart along the way, along with lots of jank and poorly-used large spaces. That said, I still have a weird fondness for it, and it does feel like they were onto something with the concept: the player being on the run and stuck in a factional conflict, tricked into doing someone's dirty work with the scope of the plan revealed over time. Some of the environments and especially the music fit the tone (Steve Foxon reliably did great work for various mods), and I still poke at it from time to time. Anyway, thanks for covering this - great video with some nice attention to detail! Such is the strength of Deus Ex that even its fan campaigns usually have something interesting to talk about, and I appreciate the closer look at this one ^^b
@@mK_Dxdoing captions is great, people who made subtitles for their videos really helped to improve my english listening skills which were pretty horrible a few years ago.
If this mod had better worldbuilding, that would've been cool (maybe it was a set built underground and was abandoned), but even with that context It's kind of nonsense.
Redsun isn't really a total conversion, that would imply that the gameplay is completely different from the base game. A good example of a Total Conversion would be something like Quake Rally which turns Quake into a racing game.
People want to see 2027, The Nameless Mod or ZODIAC review. I wanna see Terminus Machina review. Terminus Machina is full of jank, but its a total conversion made by one guy that did everything (except voice acting, there are other people who voiced the mod as well). It has the new for Deus Ex gameplay features like wireless hacking, hunger, crafting system and skillchecks in some dialogues. Also its a hard mod, because of hunger, drone attacks, surveillance cameras everywhere, "robot Gestapo" patrolling the streets. Yup, its "literally 1984", except dystopian as hell. Here's a tip: if you'll find the StormCloud network, connect to it and get the recipes for stuff to craft

Also his Developer Commentary is mostly hating on USA (I mean, hate itself is justified, but the video is named Developer Commentary, he could cut everything irrelevant and just upload the highlights from that stream that are relevant to Terminus Machina, like mod being inspired by what happened in Gaza, mod being prophetic, something about Terminus Cyberstar and stuff like that)
There is a launcher on the desktop, or at least there should be? You should launch from that. If by some reason you don't, make a shortcut of redsun.exe to the desktop and add " ini=Redsun2020.ini userini=Redsun2020User.ini" to the end of it. (without quotes, and outside the target quotes, like this ["F:\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\Deus Ex\System\Redsun2020.exe" ini=Redsun2020.ini userini=Redsun2020User.ini]
@@mK_Dx I have the shortcut and the destination with the .ini files. When I start the launcher, a window with a Redsun image appears with the message "Enjoy the mod !" and Kenties Launcher starts. I've already selected the data files in the launcher. If I start the game, the music and menu change, but if I start a new game, only the vanilla game starts up with the intro and Liberty Island.
@@mK_Dx Now I've tried it with a fresh install without the Kenties launcher and It worked, the mod started but there is one more problem. Without the launcer I'm not able configure the direct 3d 10 support and the Gui and the menu is also too small. Looks like kenties launcher can't load the mod, but without it the game is almost unplayable.

You more or less had the same issues I had. I personally enjoyed the humor, but it annoyed me that the mod doesn’t do any world building for Japan in a pre-DX1 world. I don’t think even the later games explored what's up with Japan. The internet jokes also being put on books and notes instead of Emails felt a bit weird too. It misses the mark in terms of being a DX game both on the gameplay side of things (mainly later levels) and turns into an annoying run and gun game, and the characters it does have aren’t very interesting (you even forgot that Kaneko, who you meet in the beginning, was working with Redsun and was bullshitting you). Part of me wants a more serious remake (the 2000s humor could stay in more appropriate locations) with better level design and story, but I fear like it wouldn’t be the same. A shame you didn’t mention how banging the soundtrack is, but including it in the video I guess is enough of a nod.

"Turn on captions my accent sucks" I understood everything perfectly, so I don't think it's that bad.
Guess it's improving, it used to be very thick. I do captions for every voice video as a side effect.

iirc that "hell" map was supposed to be some kind of set for Godzilla movie - hence big aliens and destroyed building with weird scalling
Its a contextless nightmare if you don't know the intent

2027 mod review when
