I just checked a ballistics calculator thinking that the performance drop off would make it similar with just a bit more compared to a 300 blackout in the same length. Nope. Boy was I wrong. Double the energy and 700 feet per second faster on that .308 there. I thought I was done at 16 in the collection. Guess I was wrong. Nice new tool ya got there. Keep up the good work!

That thing is unreal, you wouldn’t think a 7” barrel will take care of business but it does… One of my favorites as well.

I just put a Superlative Arms adjustable gas block on a 6.5 Grendel I built round a 20 inch Proof Research match barrel and so far I'm digging it and the barrel... This is a cool setup with the right bullet selection you can go to these shorter barrels without losing to much on terminal performance at reasonable distances and considering you're gaining a very handy lightweight rifle that's a compromise I'll make all day every day... Great video as always keepem coming brother!!!
Did the same when I built my 12” Grendel. Superlative Arms piston system is no joke.

I am waiting on a SA gas block for an 18in upper with a Wilson Combat barrel, mostly because the gas block that came installed might be causing some cycling issues. Hopefully that will fix the issue because I really find it frustrating to have a rifle that doesn't run right.

I've got a pin/weld 13.5" .308 LMT barrel. It's a beast, loud but no flash due to the Smith Vortex. With a RDS, it's not a long range setup, still smacks steel at 200 yards.

I have this same CMMG upper build on an Aero lower, haven't taken it out yet except for zeroing and some accuracy testing, but have had no issues with it so far. I was curious about it's performance on game, thanks for posting this!
What bcg and buffer system are you running on it?
The bcg is from CMMG, came with the upper as a complete kit. The buffer is from Aero Precision, their standard 308 carbine buffer. It’s still running flawlessly. I shoot it both suppressed and non without issue. Highly recommend CMMG and Aero

I like cmmg went with 12.5 pinned and welded. Heavy barrel for tree stand hunting. Wanted it to fell like my muzzle loader. Had to pull extractor o ring for cold weather. Don't forget to freeze your gun oil to check if cold weather hunting. Don't want gun oil to turn to syrup.

there is no truer test of a rifle than a hog hunt. they are tough animals. also those zooms with that sight are eerie. night vision technology is gonna change hunting forever just like it changed war.

Just sharing a little experience with it, glad the vid helped a little.
The 12-13.5 inch 308 SBRs are becoming more popular and are very effective. You definitely need to run a can on it though. I just bought the new Sig Spear 13inch 308 but it’s in NFA jail until the end of the year most likely. I think we will start to see more ammunition optimized for the shorter barrels in 308 which will increase velocity, terminal effect and with faster burning powders, less flash. I don’t understand why big army didn’t just use the 308/7.62x51 with the new case technology that pushed the pressures up to 80K plus. I get the 6mm, specifically the 6.8mm cartridge, has a better BC but the cost, availability and the barrel and bolt changes that are required to modify all the weapons just doesn’t make any damn sense to me. With those higher pressures, the 308 would be devastating and is plenty enough accurate for combat. Snipers will not be using that ammunition anyways and at the higher pressures a 308 cartridge with an AP tip would defeat the level 4 body armor as well. We found out that’s a problem anyways because the tungsten comes from China, so we can’t get enough of it and will have to use something else. I wonder if we will start seeing that new case tech in other cartridges soon. I’m curious as to how much more effective say the 556 round would be with it. The whole point is to allow for these shorter weapon systems to save weight, allow for better maneuverability and still have the same if not better velocity and terminal performance as a full size rifle. Imagine a 11.5-12.5 556 hitting the same velocities as an 18-20 inch rifle!!? Rant complete and great channel!!

Man, I've been back 'n' forth on deciding whether to go with a 14.5" or 12.5" .308 rig. I believe you made up my mind on which length to go with after watching your video. I was planning on building my .308 rig from the ground up, but you got me sold on that CMMG model. I live in KS, which sucks because hog hunting is banned here. I built a suppressed 9" .300 Blackout just for this purpose, but it's turned into my home self-defense gun lol. Guess I'm gonna have to build a new "baconator".

the thing is, and I dont understand why people dont get this..
if you drop down to 8-12 inches lets say for alot or calibers, it makes the maneuvering worlds of difference, you can add a suppressor and its the same size as a 16 in, a 16-18 with a suppressor is a bench gun
and the ballistics do not suffer enough to result in anything meaningful, like a human or a deer is going to notice the difference between a 150 grain projectile going 2400 fps vs 2800
I know you don't care about distance shooting but even with the short barrel you could still hit targets at 500 meters or further and it's still going to be more effective than 556

I know I'm a soft city boy lol, but I saw those cute little baby piggies and I had to stop the video before they got shot lol...anyway this video convinced me to pick up a shortly 308! Did some ballistics homework and you can get 168gr ELD's out to 800 yards still supersonic! I'm sold!

only problem, it is not piston driven like Adam Arms. They offer a 12.5 inch too, and cheaper and even lighter, and feeds everything, and because it is adjustable gas block, you can shoot it suppressed, yes suppressed 308, with 220 grain bullets

I’m a firm believer, I know there’s other options but I got these things figured out.
@@TxKiller I’ve tried multiple types involving set screws that control the gas, including Daniel Defense, and hey didn’t work. That’s the only one I’ve found that works correctly and doesn’t cost a ton.

I'm an old school shooter, and just believed the 308 should have an 18-24 inch barrel, for my type shooting, I'm holding on to that. However, I stand corrected when the POU is Pigs and, no doubt, deer in the SE States. My AR-10 (Armalite) is sniper accurate, but I wouldn't try humping it in the woods. T.K. you're practical in the POU for this big pistol. Some reviewer actually mentioned a 308 pistol for Home Defense, so I guess he lived in a palace. Going to hold my breath and see what that rig retails for. (LOL)
Looks Good Buddy, you need sight's , I realy like My Holosun 510C Multi Reticle System in green w/HS3x mag. behind it for longer shots . and a nice adjustable sling, never set your gun down. That Can works great . Good hunt, Can you eat them hogs ? BBQ ?
