Of all the movies I've ever seen, this one brings me back to my childhood the most. An American boy growing up before social media, most of my summers were spent on a dirt diamond. Glad to see someone who grew up with no knowledge of the sport enjoying this film.
Not just the sport, but the friends we made and adventures we experienced at that young age....the best time of my life was playing neighborhood ball with my friends.....little league was different, more serious, but baseball with the kids from my neighborhood and the friendships we developed are what The Sandlot is about....
@warinsidemyhead8939 that's exactly it for me. Baseball is my first love, I became obsessed with the sport and movie watching it for the first time when I was 4 or 5. Had my own baseball crew (sports in general) in my neighborhood, made a lot of friends from the sport, and played on teams for 9 years. Ahh the nostalgia will always be there.
When there's a film so close to your own memories, playing in Little League and baseball in the yard, even down to the dog. It's beyond nostalgic. You're killing me smalls! ❤
A great "coming of age" film! They really made you feel like you were one of them. The "if my dog was as ugly as you" insult is one of the greatest ever spoken! Of course the puking on the amusement ride is the funniest scene, because everyone somewhere at some point in their lives has done something equally stupid. And that's the funny thing. Kids will do stupid things, but with boys you can 100% guarantee it will be epic!😂😂
That moment in Benny’s dream where Babe Ruth takes his Hank Aaron card is so good. Hank Aaron was the black baseball player who broke Babe Ruth’s record for most home runs. He was a model of consistency in terms of hitting home runs, around 20-25 every year for almost 23 seasons.
Well, it wasn't like it was something foretelling when the movie came out, the movie was set in 62, Hank Aaron broke the record in 74, retired in 76, elected into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 82 and the movie came out in 93. The writers knew about all of this beforehand.
This movie story setting takes place in the Summer of 1962. The film itself was made and released in the early 1990's. A Classic coming of age story (for boys at least).
As a kid that grew up in the 90s, it's still reminds me of my summers. We used to play pick up baseball in the streets. All the antics we used to get into as well. So many memories...
Thanks for sharing this, Dasha. "The Sandlot" and "Stand By Me" are my favorite movies with child protagonists. Did you recognize "Mom" as Karen Allen(Marion in Raiders Of The Lost Ark). The dog's owner is played by James Earl Jones, the voice of Darth Vader.
My folks had an english mastiff. Just the absolute friendliest damn thing I ever met. Clumbsy too, but lovable. Only time I ever seen it mean was when the neighbor's dogs would get loose and run through the yard. She'd run straight for them and BAM, mow'em down like a bulldozer.
I remember someone writing about this movie going like: "If you were a boy in the 90's, this movie was life". I highly recommend you view another baseball movie when you have time, Ms. Dasha. It's called Angels In The Outfield. I highly recommend as well watching a good football movie and a good hockey movie and a good soccer movie from my childhood: The Little Giants, The Mighty Ducks (#2 preferably) and The Big Green. You mentioned in the beginning that Russia has never heard of baseball. That just might change. I've read an article about Russia setting up a village for Americans and Canadians to the south from Moscow. From them, Russians might start seeing something new brought to them, including baseball.
The sandlot childhood favorite movie including stand by me The two best movies I ever watched as a kid learned some major lessons to help me in life! Glad you enjoyed the movie it's a wild ride❤
So happy you reacted to this movie, and enjoyed it!! This is one of the movies that if I’m feeling upset or stressed, I watch it and smile and feel good!! 😊 Reminds me so much of my own childhood!!
This is one of my favorite movies ever since I was a kid. LOVE it. And if you enjoyed this I think you'd really like "Field of Dreams". It's another baseball movie, but also has a deep emotional story with a great cast (including James Earl Jones).
Love your reaction to this great movie. The movie takes place in the 60s TV commercials always announced BF Flyers made you run faster also in the 60s you could play outside at night and be safe...things have changed slot for kids
The blind old man with all the baseball paraphernalia with Hercules the dog? That is James Earl Jones the voice of Darth Vader in Star Wars. You will also hear his voice in The Lion King as the father. And you will see him in Coming to America as Eddie Murphy's dad the king. Oh yeah , he also plays the evil snake king in Conan the Barbarian played by Arnold Schwarzenegger.
Awesome reaction. Noticed you mentioned in the pf flyer scene that you thought the movie was set in the 90's. Wanted to point out the movie is set in 1962. My family had a tradition to watch this and Jaws every July 4th.
This movie is set in the year 1962, the same year I was 8 years old. Me and my neighborhood friends played baseball wherever we could, be it in the middle of the street, at school or at the neighborhood park. The movie scenes of the homes look like they were shot on my childhood street. I grew up in Concord, CA and my family were huge SF Giants fans and also the Oakland A's when they moved to Oakland in 1968. When I was in 3rd grade, somehow our teacher got permission to take our class on a field trip to a Giants game at Candlestick park in San Francisco. I was 9 years old. There were areas of the outfield that had some rickety bleachers and a simple chain link fence between us and the field. During batting practice, every time Willie Mays caught a ball, he would run over and toss the ball over the fence for some lucky kid to get. I never got a ball, but I was lucky enough to get a handshake and big smile from Willie when I shoved my little hand through an opening in the chain link fence. I'll never forget that moment! I'll be 70 next year and I'm still a huge baseball fan of the SF Giants, Oakland A's and Boston Red Sox. I live in Utah now and was surprised to learn that the Sandlot was filmed on a lot in Salt Lake City, just 35 minutes north of my home. Each year they have a reunion for whoever from the cast of Sandlot can attend and show the film on a screen set up on the same field they played baseball on during the movie. Thanks Dasha for being such a pleasure to watch, your sincerity, sense of humor and heartfelt reactions are priceless!
This movie always brings back fond memories of my childhood. Literally my friends and I did the exact same things during the summer in our small hometown. We played ball after breakfast, by noon we went swimming at the local pool, and after dinner we rode our bikes around town or played more ball until the street lights turned on. That’s when we knew when it was time to go home. Our street was divided into an upper and lower half where the kids from the upper street were our rivals too just like in the movie. It was a much different and safer time for kids to just play outside. It’s just not like that today. Different times.
Very nice edit. It managed to capture many of the important finer points of this great story that many others have passed by. Wonderful reaction as well. Thanks.
This is by far my most favorite movie of all time. Me and my friends used to ride our bikes to a baseball field before school and play a few innings. Really great reaction I'm glad you liked it. And I agree, it's so heartwarming and all acted by children.
This is one of my all time favorite movies. I watch it everytime it comes on tv. Its fun to say 'forever' like the kid in the movie when he's telling the story about the dog... for -- ev -- er for -- ev -- er. Say it like that when talking to someone and see if they get the reference. Many people will get it. Also the phrase "you're killing me Smalls" is another classic piece of American slang when someone is irritating you.
My day was kinda sucky with a few exceptions, so when you said, teach the kid fetch, I couldn't help but laugh. I knew what you meant, and I understand why it came out like that, but it was just funny. Thanks for that.
That movie was everything when I was a kid. Any time we wanted to run just a little bit faster, we'd dig our foot into the ground like Benny does. And "you do X like a girl" was the nuke of all insults.
This movie feels like a friendlier version of the style of Stand By Me, which you have already seen. The narration and the way it is put together. Definitely a classic
@monkeyballs512 Stand by Me is overrated precisely because it is "darker/more mature", the beauty of The Sandlot is in its romanticism, simplicity, and whimsy.
Narrator: [Scene cuts to the team on the Sandlot as the Narrator continues] It was weird that Benny had said that Babe Ruth was like the Hercules of Baseball and the Beast's name ended up being Hercules. None of us could ever figure out what that meant, but we were all amazed by it. I kept in touch with those guys over the years and I found out that Yeah-Yeah's parents had shipped him off to Military School. After the Army, he became one of the pioneering developers of bungee jumping. Of course, we all know why. Bertram, well... Bertram got really into the '60s and no one ever saw him again. Timmy and Tommy became an architect and a contractor. They started out small, designing playground equipment and prefabricated tree houses. But they became multimillionaires when they invented... mini malls. Squints grew up and married Wendy Peffercorn. They have 9 kids. They bought Vincent's Drug Store and they still own it to this day. Hamilton Porter became a professional wrestler. You know him as "The Great Hambino". DeNunez played Triple A ball, but he never got to the majors. He owns he own business now and he coaches a little league team that his sons play on called, "The Heaters". Hercules lived to be 199 years old... uh, in doggie years. I was the last one to move away. But when I did, the Sandlot was still there. After Benny pickled the Beast, his reputation spread all over town. From then on, he was known as, "Benny 'The Jet' Rodriguez" and the nickname stuck with him for the rest of his life.
Fun fact: The actor that played Benny his eldest brother played the older version of him. These types of films are called “Coming of Age” it is directed towards children from 5 to 15 years old there are tones of teenagers that loved this film too. The 90s were different, it was special to many.
The Dad is played by Dennis Leary, who was best known for his standup in the 90s. You would have previously seen him in Demolition Man as Edgar Friendly (where he pretty much did his standup routine). The Mom is played by Karen Allen, who you'd know as Marion Ravenwood in Raiders of the Lost Ark. Henry "Hank" Aaron broke Babe Ruth's all-time home run record, which is the joke about the Ghost of the Babe asking for his baseball card. Some other great baseball movies: A League of their Own (the 1992 film with Geena Davis, Lori Petty, Tom Hanks, Madonna, and Rosie O'Donnell, not the current TV series) Field of Dreams The Natural Major League and Major League II (the first is considerably better, but the second is still worth a look) The Babe Eight Men Out Bull Durham The Pride of the Yankees (Babe Ruth actually plays himself) 61* The Bad News Bears (the 1972 original, NOT the remake)
Dasha, Babe Ruth held the Home Run record for decades, until Hank Arron broke the record. That's why in the boys dream, Babe Ruth asked if he could have Henry Arron's baseball card 😂😂😂
In my Top 3 baseball movies. Dasha this takes place in early 1960s (likely '61 or '62 as Angels became a team in 61). Yes it always reminds me of playing baseball in neighborhood in my youth mid 70s. My daughters grew up with baseball as an internal part of their youth and they all love this movie. Great reaction ❤
It’s funny you pointed out the dog is how he remembers. in my own memory Benny was like this big cool kid, but watching it as an adult he actually still a child
Love watching this movie every summer! I'm so glad I grew up before social media plagued the world! Makes me miss playing baseball in my neighborhood. Goes to show how time moves faster than a curve ball. Really miss those days! Great reaction, Dasha! :D
The Sandlot is my favorite movie of all time. It's very sentimental to me, it's why I became such a huge fan of baseball and ended up playing the game for 9 years. Baseball is definitely my "first love".
The director has some great stories about how he was playing with Squint's anticipation as to when they were going to film the kiss scene. He wanted him as nervous as possible, which he felt was how the character would feel. On the day of the kiss, he pulled him aside and told him, "Son, you keep your tongue in your mouth, you hear?" They got it on the first take, reportedly, which he conveyed to Squints, who said, "Great! Let's shoot it again!"
We use to have a block party like that twice a year, block off the end of the street and bring out the picnic tables. Everyone in the neighborhood brought a dish it was the most fun ever.
This was filmed in and around my town. There's a path behind the swimming pool where they stood after getting thrown out where I walk my own dogs. A girl I worked with was an extra at the swimming pool, but they eye make-up they put on her was so bad she actively avoided being on camera. They just had the 30th anniversary where many form the cast came out to hang out and take pictures. There are some great baseball movies that don't need a lot of knowledge of the game. One is A League of Their Own. Another is Bull Durham. An older one with a mostly kids cast was The Bad news Bears. They re did it, but it needs to be the original.
For the record. An authentic baseball signed by Babe Ruth is worth thousands to hundreds of thousands of dollars (highest one went for more than $800K). This is a great movie. I loved it as a kid. I wonder how kids would take it now, since no one is allowed to even play outside of their own houses anymore
One of the best baseball players is Cal Ripkin Jr. He played third baseman for the Baltimore Orioles in 21 seasons, earned the nickname "the Iron Man" because his record was 400 home runs, and 3,000 hits, he retired in 2001 but Babe Ruth is obviously the most iconic baseball player who broke his own record from being 59 home runs, Babe Ruth made it into 60 home runs
I grew up in the '50s and it was just like the movie. Neighborhood picnics, block parties, caring parents and your baseball buddies. The Sandlot is a great representation of life in the USA in the 1950s and early '60s. If you haven't reviewed it yet, check out the movie American Graffiti. Dasvadanya 😊
This film is a childhood classic for an entire generation of millennials, even if you're not that into baseball. Gen Xers love this movie too. And based on the positive reviews of the reactors, it's safe to say that The Sandlot is a classic. Great reaction! 👍🏿⚾️
At the end of the movie when you see the grown up Benny (michael vitar), that's his real life older brother (Pablo Vitar) great touch to the movie having kid and adult Benny look alike
There are some really good baseball movies out there that you would probably really like, and I’m sure everyone would enjoy seeing you react to them. 1) A League Of Their Own: Based on the true story of The All American Women’s Baseball League that was started during World War II, because too many of America’s able bodied young men had been recruited/drafted into the military to fight the Japanese and the Nazis, and there weren’t enough left behind to have an actual baseball league. 2) The Babe: Based on the life story of George Herman “Babe” Ruth. Some facts were probably changed for dramatic effect, but it should give you a good idea of how good he was in his day, and why he’s considered such a big deal even now. 3) Major Leagues: A comedy about the worst team in the American Baseball League. 4) Rookie Of The Year: A silly kids movie about a kid who, through some random accident, is able to throw amazing fastballs and gets recruited to play for a big league baseball team. 5) Little Big League: A kid, who’s a huge baseball fan, inherits a Major League Baseball team from his grandfather who had just passed away. He ends up taking charge of the team and leads them to the World Series Finals. There are probably more baseball movies out there, some of them even better movies than those I suggested, but I think you’ll probably enjoy those ones more if you were actually a baseball fan yourself. These ones you can enjoy whether you’re a fan of not.
Don’t forget Angels in the Outfield. A kid living in the foster system prays that the local Major League team will win the championship hoping that he and his father will get to be a family again. Ultimately, a group of angels comes down from Heaven and the team starts winning. And things also begin looking up for everyone connected to the team.
You have your Darth Vader shirt on and the old man at the end (James Earl Jones) was the voice of Darth Vader in the Star Wars movies. Perfect!
Great coincidence!!
I didn’t put that together lol
That is something
Would be even better if she also saw/reacted to Field of Dreams which is another baseball movie that has more of James Earl Jones.

Same for me but instead of baseball it was skateboards and BMX
Perfectly timed "that's what she said" at 17:10. "Go to third base!" I laughed way too hard at that. I never get tired of this movie.
Watching "American Pie" has corrupted her 😂
I think you would like "Field of Dreams", another baseball movie that isn't just about baseball. James Earl Jones is in that one, too.
I loved when MLB did the Field of Dreams game. Hit me in the feels man.
Hell yeah, I want a Dasha reaction to "Field of Dreams." Though she better load up on tissues.
@Billinois78 The guy that plays Babe Ruth here was also in that movie too :)
Dasha is probably someone's Wendy Pfefferkorn
A lot of someone's Wendy!!!!
Hahaha.
Guilty. 😁
💋 “This magic Moment”
Dasha is so hot. 24 hours on a treadmill on a hot summers day in her dirtiest sneakers and them toes still delicious.
Oh and the Henry Aaron bit. He was the guy who broke Babe Ruth’s record for home runs.
Oh man this brings back memories. This was one of the movies I watched a ton as a kid
Makes me remember 3 Ninjas(1992) ''Rocky loves Emily, Rocky loves Emily!''
A century later, Ruth's 1921 totals of 177 runs, 457 total bases and 119 extra-base hits all remain modern-era major league records.
Pitchers back then compared to pitchers today! xD

I'm not crying, you are.
Some other great baseball movies:
A League of their Own (the 1992 film with Geena Davis, Lori Petty, Tom Hanks, Madonna, and Rosie O'Donnell, not the current TV series)
Field of Dreams
The Natural
Major League and Major League II (the first is considerably better, but the second is still worth a look)
The Babe
Eight Men Out
Bull Durham
The Pride of the Yankees (Babe Ruth actually plays himself)
61*
The Bad News Bears (the 1972 original, NOT the remake)
watching as a 7yr old in the 90s, benny was the coolest kid everrr
Dasha, Babe Ruth held the Home Run record for decades, until Hank Arron broke the record. That's why in the boys dream, Babe Ruth asked if he could have Henry Arron's baseball card 😂😂😂
the movie was made in the 90s, but the story is set on 1962
In my Top 3 baseball movies.
I miss the old style of movies with narrators. Sandlot and Christmas Story are my two favorite.
Love watching this movie every summer! I'm so glad I grew up before social media plagued the world! Makes me miss playing baseball in my neighborhood. Goes to show how time moves faster than a curve ball. Really miss those days! Great reaction, Dasha! :D
"You're killing me smalls!" is something I say to this day.
The Sandlot is my favorite movie of all time. It's very sentimental to me, it's why I became such a huge fan of baseball and ended up playing the game for 9 years. Baseball is definitely my "first love".
She's wearing a Darth Vader t-shirt, unaware that James Earl Jones is featured in the movie...hehhehe
The fourth of July scene is what we call a "block party" usually block off the street and everyone hangs out in front.
Fun seeing Dasha wear a Darth Vaser shirt with James Earl Jones in this movie.
The kid who played Kenny actually had pretty good pitching form.👍🏼
My great childhood baseball movie was The Bad News Bears! Everyone should see that at least once.
But it has to be the 70's version! Tanner and Humperdinck we're my favorite characters.
@@vellaropedart9190 that’s the only version I know of. I was born in 64 so….
We use to have a block party like that twice a year, block off the end of the street and bring out the picnic tables. Everyone in the neighborhood brought a dish it was the most fun ever.
That dog is an Old English Mastiff. There are many different Mastiff breeds, one of which even has a more powerful bite than a lion. Great reaction.
Really one of my favorite and most rewatchable movies.
Does anyone else think about how cute it is that Dasha refers to the kids in such motherly fashion?
You're killing me Smalls!
What would a ball signed by Babe Ruth and the rest of th 27 Yankees be worth? $$$$$$$$
Such a pleasure watching this with you! You are as wholesome as the movie ❤😊
That part where the whole neighborhood is outside is called a block party. We used to do those monthly back in the day
I grew up in the '50s and it was just like the movie.
This is one my favorite childhood movies. Great memories, thanks for reacting to it.
This movie has such a huge place in my childhood memories
At the end of the movie when you see the grown up Benny (michael vitar), that's his real life older brother (Pablo Vitar) great touch to the movie having kid and adult Benny look alike
Wow, nostalgia overload! Great reaction Dasha!
Dasha, you have such a sweet soul, you make my eyes tear-up sometimes.
I grew up in this time with out cellphones or the internet it was amazing
I was always the new kid.
We moved a lot.
I know a couple of guys named “Benny” 💛 who made all the difference.
The older Benny playing for the professional sports was the actors older brother
