Discussion with Dutch (Roman Catholic; MA candidate in Sacred Scripture)

Cordial discussion I had with a Roman Catholic (MA candidate). I focused a lot on dogmatic Roman Catholic claims concerning the Deposit of Faith and what is considered allowable vis-à-vis development of doctrine. So many modern Catholics often appeal to John Henry Newman’s 1845 essay on the development of doctrine (and most have not read it cover to cover; just blindly appeal to it) as if bridges any chasm (e.g., “maybe the early Christians did not believe in the Immaculate Conception, but Irenaeus paralleled her with Eve and Justin said nice things about her, so that was the ‘seed’ of the later ‘tree’).
