Just remember this, when you are in India do not trust a stranger who won't back off when you tell them to. It means they are up to no good when they get very desperate. Especially the north india has too many of these. North India is not the best place if it's your first time in India. India has places that are considered dangerous and they are all in North India. Can you be a little bit specific ? Do you realize how big North India is ! How many states, cities & towns you are talking about ! Obviously there are only a few tourist hotspots & even within that city there maybe a few areas where you will encounter such addicts. BTW it's not like South India is all paradise. You can easily get scammed there as well. It's just the population is less & hence chances of getting scammed becomes relatively less.
They once scammed my uncle who is born in Suriname hes from our indian community here after that he never was scammed again unfortunately he passed away in 2020 in India on vacation due to Corona

It goes into a neighbourhood outdoor courtroom.. I remember this as well one guy kicked dust onto a lady with a blanket on the ground selling her stuff and he was rapidly held accountable by the immediate area that gathered about and solved it according to their own moral ruling.
You did break a lot of tourist safety rules, maybe intentionally, just for contents. I could see a lot of red flags there. I'd never go around in a places like that shaking every stranger's hands and announcing that it's my first day in India. That would definitely make you and easy target. Thanks to the locals in the market who stepped in to help a tourist. This shows that there are always good people everywhere who are willing to help the unfortunate.
If you watch more of my videos you’ll realise I very often break “tourist safety rules”, I’m definitely not doing “normal” tourism and go to places that are dangerous, luxurious, miserable, peaceful etc…. And shake hands with as many different people as possible 🙌🏼

But I mean I feel sad for them because mostly they come from villages to big cities to earn a better living for them and their family, and tourist are the best place to make a quick buck. It is wrong but their livelihood is soo bad that they don't really care about ethics. One more thing, giving money is not advisable, just buy them food. Again hope you have a great time : )
