Agree with this 100%. The body doesn't need that much food - it really doesn't. I've been eating OMAD for 4 years and Im astounded how efficient the body is at adjusting to variations in my caloric expenditure. I never have to be mindful to eat enough, as my body tells me when I need to more or less. OMAD is hands down the best lifestyle change I have ever made. It takes time to adjust but its so worth the initial effort. Now its effortless.

OMAD is the best. Took months to adjust to it, but a super healthy time saver. Having the discipline to not snack. Plus you really see what foodies people are, geezus, they are constantly eating.
Their digestion and bowels never get a break. Plus of course the constant insulin spikes. 60 here and in the best shape of my life. Just wish I had this knowledge 20-30 years ago, but better late than never.

I just started, but the time saving aspect is what I'm most excited by. I can spend 20 per meal 3 times a day to make something that's just "ok", or I can spend an hour (but usually less) making a really good, substantial dinner.

Brilliant...As a teenager I developed food "issues". I became anorexic and bulemic (spelling 🤔) and struggled for years. For over 15 years now I have eaten one meal a day and when I tell people they think I must be crazy or very unhealthy. I have maintained my 8st 5lb weight throughout these years (I'm a 5ft 5" female 55yrs old). I buy my food daily as my body tells me exactly what it wants. I will get a craving for beetroot or peanuts or grapes or advocate or eggs or bacon or cheese or yoghurt or flapjacks or beef burger or vegetables or beans or chocolate or crisps or pizza etc etc... I just intuitively know what my body wants me to eat. I eat slowly and I know when I have had enough. Some days I don't really want much but other days I will have a little "pig out"😜! I do Pilates exercises daily and am flexible, toned and extremely happy and food is no longer an issue or an obsession🙏 I have plenty of energy and my body feels happy and so do I. One meal a day works for me👌

My chosen meal is dinner, pretty much so I have something to look forward to at the end of the day, although I can change it to lunch or breakfast if I have a special occasion or meeting so I don't become socially awkward.

I don't know who this man is but the video popped up and I was curious because I have been trying OMAD lately. His advice is SPOT ON!
I'm 65 and eat intuitively. Mostly carnivore with intermittent fasting. Some days I'm incapable of OMAD, other days it's fine. Some days I crave sauerkraut, some days sheep yogurt. I don't think about it or question it. I just eat everything with gratitude. He's so right about not overthinking it. The body has its own wisdom for sure.

thank you for this advice I am on my 6th day of OMAD, it hasn't been a walk in the park, but I have stuck with it. 24:1. Usually, I eat in the one hour time allowed, but I noticed I haven't been eating enough, so today, I took my time eating and as the hour was approaching I still felt like I hadn't eaten enough, so I went an additional 30 mins to complete my meal. I feel so much better, and will not beat myself up knowing that I didn't eat within the hour allowed. Let me know if you struggle with this as well and although this video is old, I know many of us are still researching and watching different videos. good luck.

With complete respect, I think the question was completely missed/unanswered. How do you eat enough food on OMAD? If rephrased the question would be, how can I get enough calories without force feeding myself?
If you remove two meals from your diet, your body does not adjust to craving 3x the calories in one sitting. Their stomach doesn't expand 3x. People like myself, who weigh 145 lbs and exercise heavily (burn a lot of calories) throughout the week cannot sit down and consume 2000 calories in one sitting. It's uncomfortable and intuitive, the opposite of what's being recommended here.
My avg meal size is 300-600 calories. I cannot eat 1500 calories in one sitting.

When I’m doing omad (usually do tmad) I make more of courses; I’ll have something like cheese or pate for an appetizer; then maybe a soup/salad; then my protein-fats mains, even occasionally couple square of dark chocolate or a few berries for dessert. This stretches out my meal a bit and I definitely get pleasantly full without eating excess food. I rarely get hungry in between, and if I do, a decaf coffee gets me past it.

insulin helps: Regulate blood sugar levels. After you eat, carbohydrates break down into glucose, a sugar that is the body's primary source of energy. Glucose then enters the bloodstream.
When you eat, insulin spikes, having increased blood glucose levels.
By having an OMAD diet, allows your A1C to stay in a safe range so the blood sugar doesn't remain at high levels to risk damaging blood vessels per eating 3x/day.
    As mwntioned prior,

I love that he talks about living and eating intuitively, and i do that naturally all the time, but i must say if you're not used to it, you need to make sure to get enough nutrition initially and get used to knowing what being fully nourished and satisfied feels like, cause most people dont feel that very often. So do a proper nutritional calculator diary evey day for all your minerals ,vitamins , amino acids, proteins and fats, to make sure you get enough and pay attention to how you feel. When you have enough grasp to tell whether you have enough or not you can then intuitively listen to your body and what it needs. Alsox make sure you eat nutrient dense foods, (superfoods) because these will give you more nutrition in less calories. You actually need only 900 calories a day to get all the nutrition you need, but it has to be from super nutrient loaded foods, otherwise you wont get the correct amount.

Excellent! I couldn't agree more. I think we have all become so accustomed to 'experts' telling us when, how much, how little, and so on, that we have lost track of the natural intuitiveness of our bodies. We have hunger pangs and things so we will know when to eat. Doesn't that make sense? Otherwise, why would we have it? I love IF just for that reason and particularly OMAD. I don't count ANYTHING. I eat variety, good healthy foods and when I am full I stop....period. It works like nothing else and makes perfect sense. I don't feel deprived or like I am missing anything. Cravings are almost nonexistent and when I want to indulge, I do but I just can't eat like I used to, so portion control seems to be built in. I'll never go back to 3 meals...just not necessary. I feel better than I can ever remember feeling and weight falls off and stays off, yippee!!!

I eventually gained weight when I stopped lifting and eating right and still doing multiple meals. Gonna go back to this.

My cousin back in the 60s ate just one meal a day. He was still in school and never told anyone he was doing it. I had been on deployment for over a year and when I came home he was over 100 pounds lighter, that is when I found out he had ate that way because he didn't know of any other way to lose the weight, and he was desperate. So I know it works, and most her fasting ways works too, as long as you follow the direction of the plan you are doing. A few year back I gave lecture sat colleges and health food store on various ways to fast. And Mark I do get your emails, for more than a year now....thanks.

I was having mild fat loss with keto, 8:16. Then I tried OMAD with the same keto structure, and I just couldn't eat the amount needed. But I didn't want to eat too few calories.
So I just made a minimum macro count of protein and fat, then made sure I ate some veggies, then filled the rest with nonsense just to eat my calories in order to do OMAD. And my running endurance didn't drop, weight loss sped up incredibly, and didn't lose any strength in my lifts.
So through trial and error, I've figured out OMAD is best for me, since it has the best results while I get to eat dumb food haha.

For those who stopped doing OMAD, is there any rebound gain weight effect? I am very scared about this method because, coming from an African household where food is very much part of the social life, it is not sustainable to do it everyday for the rest of my life... Intermittent is more realistic for me. Still, OMAD seems to have greater results in less of time.

    • @EvaKNF
      @EvaKNF 4 роки тому

Martin Shepherd that’s actually what I thought doing. The thing is I’ve also noticed, and maybe that the quarantine effect: I’ve been doing Omad for a week while being careful of what I eat. I’ve made two homemade unhealthy dishes (burgers with salad for side) but I did not experimented drastic changes in my weight. I was already very low in my calories (1300k per day). That week, the average was 700-1000 per day. I got to 1000 when I ate a burger... anyways I feel like the more you weight the easier this method has an effect on your body. But I’m here at 154 (with nice curves at the right place thought) wanting to lose 15lb and nothing had and quick result on my body! Maybe I gain some muscle too?! I’ll try omad for a month but otherwise I will just get back to a regular 16:8 window to minimize the rebound effect.

    • @stephanies3862

Personally for me OMAD is not sustainable because not only can I not eat a whole lot in one sitting, but after about 3 hours I'd feel hungry again. So now my goal is to eat 3 healthy meals starting at 10 or 11 and ending at 6 or 7. Consisting of a large breakfast, medium sized lunch and small dinner.

Vanessa Guilarte an update. I did Omad 20:4 during a month. I still ate clean 6/7 days. Since I’m an endomorph, I only lost 6lb. But it’s was still a victory for me. An important fact is that i don’t look overweight. I’m curently 150 with tight and a big booty lol. I feel like a lot of people talking about their great result were very overweight or obese. Because I was always skinnier (135lb), I’m looking to lose that extra 10lb.
For me, Omad was not sustainable. I rather intermittent fasting 16:8. I was tired all day long with Omad and my job requires that I focus a lot. I 2 weeks after stopping Omad I did not bounced back. Yet, right now, I feel like i gain a bit of weight back since I stopped training and the quarantine is sill something we kinda have to do.
Finally talking about training: It was really hard to do when you did not eat. I’m very impressed by pple who workout in fasting mode. I would recommend, except if you did not experienced what I’ve just said, to do IF with 16:8, while eating clean as most as possible and doing sport. You’ll have a similar results but it will take a longer period of time. Omad for a while is good too.
I will still do OMAD but during the weekend is better for me!

@@stephanies3862 ofc it's different for everyone, and you may be one these cases where OMAD is not really an option, but I can still give you one advice: Do 18:6 and try to transition to OMAD over time. You will learn an important lesson: What you feel after 3 hours is not hunger! It appetite. It's lust for food, not the need for hunger. And intervall fasting can make you realize that and make your body/mind come to the right conclusions.

Which is more effective for being lean? Eating OMAD, I probably eat less than 70g of protein. You need to start slowly with a 16/8 split to get your body fat adapted. Once fat adapted you will feel very different. You should be focusing on doing it for health. That means getting your food straight. I only eat from butchers for my meat now as best quality. Ive learned how to make my own salad dressing with olive oil, lemon juice, raw ginger, garlic and salt and pepper. Its amazing. Salads consist of onion lettuce, red cabbage, peppers, tomatoes and carrots. I prep for 3 days so a big salad.
Learn how to cook properly first and foremost. I dont eat carbs or sugar. I finnish each meal with a 90% lindt dark chocolate about 4 squares with either a bowl of strawberries with full fat cream or just a coffe :) i was 218lbs now im 180lbs and in the best shape of my life.
      No sugar or carbs cravings.
I easily train twice a day as im always buzzing with energy. I rest inbetween. Different outlook to life now and love it.
Im 31/m and got a black eye at boxing other day! Love it got a buzz for life again.

Maybe try to eat your normal big meal (lunch, dinner) and eat some snack foods after (nuts are high in calories - 100 calories is 6 macadamia nuts or 13 almonds or 10 cashews; dried fruits are also a good pick in this case, but don't overeat them). Also, make your main meal higher in calories adding salmon, oily fish or red meat, avocados, cheese, whatever you like and has more calories. Good luck!! I hope you find your balance

    • @MB19ap
      @MB19ap 3 роки тому +5

From my research and experience, it may be helpful to make a rough sketch (even if its in your head) of what you need calorie, macro/micro nutrient wise and then what foods fit into this then decide which foods fill you up the most, you will eat those at the end while you will eat the less filling foods at the start. This will also help you go longer without feeling hungry. So for example you'll want to break your fast with something light that isn't going to dramatically spike blood sugar, then maybe have some fruit or some type of "appetizer" something that stimulates appetite, then have your larger meal with the more filling foods such as meat, then if you're like me and need something sweet find something that isn't going to spike blood sugar, maybe some full fat yogurt with nut butter and some whipped cream, or some cheese. It is tempting to reach for a real dessert because of the calories, but it can really throw off blood sugar. I feel that the last foods I eat for the day can really make or break how I feel the next day and it is a constant learning process to find what works and what doesn't.

If I have a heavy lifting day I’ll have some more carbs like a baked potato, cup of rice, or old fashioned oats.
