- The Sugar High audience has come up with some GREAT questions. In this "Answering Your Questions", I respond to inquiries regarding specifics on certain insulins, the need to learn about diet and diabetes, and concerns about using different medications together. Thanks to everyone that has been interacting!!
Thank you , very helpful video..
Glad you enjoyed it.
I love these new videos you are doing being a type 2 going on almost 2 decades I’m hearing things that are new to me and also understanding things about the new drugs out there. Having a friend who was just diagnosed these videos have been helpful to him I hope this is going to be a regular season of videos keep up the helpful information I’m sure everyone out there appreciates what you are doing.
Can you pls share you reviews on "Acarbose" pls?
💚
If you could also cover " What medicine or class of medicine should a newly Type2 diabetic whose HbA1c is 6.5% start with?''
im a new diabetic from the philippines...i just want to thank you for all of the very helpful information...i really appreciate it.
PLEASE cover Pre Diabetes/Insulin Resistance/Insulin Intolerance - I sooooooo want a clearer direction. My training said there are three tests ( HbA1c, Fasting Glucose & Glucose Intolerance Test) and for a definitive diagnosis two test should be out of the acceptable range. Your thoughts??
I really wish you had covered the stuff outside of meds the way you said you would here. As someone who can't afford anything but Walmart meds anyway, this would actually server me better.
i will not tak
eut if under 7 units per day no weight gain insulin because of weight gain also fast acting stops and weight lost but long acting
You tell us how it is. Doctors don’t have time or you forget what you were going to say. Now we can ask you. My doctor just prescribed Victoza and I wasn’t sure that’s what I wanted to do because of the side effects. But after you explained it I started taking it. Thank you. I’m always nervous taking new medications.
Thank you for caring and for your help!
Always!
We need more people like you, even with support networks in our daily lives. this hell is always easier when i hear someone else talk about it
Wow, that really means a lot to me. I’m sincerely glad it was helpful to you.
Trust me, I'm not your mother!
Hi. My Endos *think* I have LADA. If true, I'm early stage and present as type 2 for now. One of my endos prescribed me repaglinide, and is pretty confident that it will not enable beta cell exhaustion. As potential LADA, I am concerned about medication that may accelerate my need for insulin injections.
Any thoughts about beta cell exhaustion for LADAs?
Thank you! You are a great (and informed) communicator.
Using oral meds in LADA doesn't really change the long-term outcome other than that you can sometimes delay how soon insulin becomes necessary. But if this is truly a LADA case, insulin is in the future. Repaglinide stimulates the pancreas to release insulin in a similar way to ssulfonyluras, but in a less harsh way. It's shorter-acting so it's mostly for mealtime coverage. Sounds like your Endo is trying to spare you from multiple mealtime injections for as long as possible. Sounds reasonable.
@@sugarhighchannel Thank you so much for the reply. Presuming I'm LADA, I plan on putting off insulin dependence for as long as possible - long enough so that I won't have to inject insulin because a new technology that is currently in trials is released (can you tell I have a problem with needles? :) )! So I will happily avoid medications and manage without them if it extends the life of my beta cells.
Thank you so very much for the simplicity of your explanations. It is so much appreciated with someone like me who is trying to navigate through this disease. Looking for diabetes 101.
Great service! Can you speak about insulin resistance and how you treat it?
Also could you speak about SMBG patterns used to titrate medications?
Thank you for making these videos! Your clear explanations truly help me understand this wave of information of being a newly diagnosed.
What type of diet is good for metformin since it has side affects thank very good videos Ravindra Prasad
Other than the standard low-carb diet we recommend for all type 2 diabetics, if metformin is causing side effects like upset stomach or diarrhea, try smaller meals and avoid fried foods. Increasing fiber intake can also be helpful.
Wow! Thank you for the very good answers to my questions, very clear explanation! A cousin gave me a free sample of Soliqua - I learned it costs more and I did experience nausea and I had to wait for an hour before I eat after injecting it, so I went back to Toujeo. I would welcome another free sample though. Is it okay to switch back and forth? I am afraid to tell my doctor.
Probably best not to keep secrets from your doctor. If it's a good patient/provider relationship, she/he would rather know what's actually going on a n what's on your mind.
@@sugarhighchannel Thanks for the advice. I agree.
I have a question!! I will be getting my blood check at the end of the month and I'd like to see how much insulin is in my blood - I know that can be done, but I don't know the name of the test.
We can do a direct measurement of insulin with a blood test, but it's not really of much value. I think you might be referring to a blood test that measures how much insulin your pancreas is still creating. If so, that test is called the C-Peptide.
@@sugarhighchannel Thank you so much!!
@@sugarhighchannel is C-Peptide test required before prescribing insulin injections? I do not recall getting any test of this kind but I am on insulin for about 10 yrs now.
@@simonettepiedad7247 No, its not required. It's usefulness has more to do with trying to determine whether or not oral diabetes medications will still be helpful.
