Very interesting and informative Nath, thank you. Your packed rucsac appears to be typical Nath organisation - streamlined and well thought out. I’ve been backpacking a number of years now and have my own methods and likes but I’m still working on finding the optimal system so it’s always interesting to hear another person’s views. There are always new approaches / ideas to learn. Like you I love the Osprey load-transfer system. So comfortable. Very reliable and sturdy sacs. Looking forward to seeing you both out and about soon. Reasonable legitimate exercise of course 😀

great vid Nath, I'm very impressed with Ospray packs and looking to get a larger pack for longer trips, and the Atmos 65 looks like it could be the one, Just got a couple of Toaks pans, 550ml and 900ml, this can hold all my cook system and 550 is my mug, next upgrade is sleep mat and narrowed that down to Sea to summit Ether light xt large or Big Agnes air core ultra ?kep up the good work guys, looking for ward to a trip back down to the moors , been a long time since I was learning nav up on the moors lol.

Get on Nath 👍. I do like a good kit loadout vid 👌. If you want a wee bit more space in your pack bud then take your thermarest out of its bag and instead of rolling it up just fold it a few times and put it against the back of the pack or if the compartment for your hydration system is big enough then slide it in there. Thanks for sharing Nath. Atb Sconja 👍

Not a bad set up at all. Taking into consideration the weight of your camera gear that load isn't too bad at all. I usually try to stay under 35lbs on my back, anything heavier and it is pulk/sled/travois time for me!

Good vid mate. Glad to see you back. One thing..I would never put a bottle of water in my pack like that. I'd be terrified of it soaking all the gear. I know for weight distribution it probably makes sense, but try 2 smaller bottles and put em in the side pockets. 👍🤘

Oh interesting, I'm moving down to Dorset soon and wanted to wild camp but I have way to much camera gear was looking at Camera backpack large enough to add camping gear too but not found anything yet. I will look into the camera case you got and Osprey. Oh I thought having heavier items close to hip is better as climbing about I found top heavy the backpack swings about. But then your way protects camera from water leaks.

Top Tip.... put two smaller water bottles in the pockets on the outside of your pack (2 x 1 liter) ... the pockets below the end of your trekking poles. There's quite a few advantages , first it makes sure that that if the one bottle leaks it wont soak all the gear inside the pack ( nothing worse than finding out your spare clothes or sleeping bag are soaking wet when you come to use them!) second it frees up some room inside your pack , third is they are handy to grab if you need a drink and and fourth if one leaks you havent lost all your water when you get to your campsite or next water source. 15kg / 16 kg isnt bad if you count all that extra gear you are carrying... id be interested in what your base weight comes out at.... that would be the weight of your pack, tent, sleep system , clothes, first aid kit, water filtration, cook set basically the essentials minus your food, water , camera gear, and trekking poles ... topic for another video maybe ?? 👍👍

A great "what's in my backpack" video BUT the sound could have been a tad better - it sounded a bit "tinny" with a bit of an echo. I have the same Tamron 10mm-24mm Wide Angle Lens that I couple with my Nikon D7100. It's a superb lens. What does Nath think of the Sigma 17mm- 50mm lens? What tripod is that? Cheers. Ken

Nice work Nathan. Its good to see someone combining photography and camping. Not sure whether you would considering going down the Mirrorless setup? As a fellow Nikon user their mirrorless setup is expensive but it might be one way to get weight and space down.

Looking at getting this pack for wild camping dunno wether to get the 50 litre or the 65 tho I been using a 33 litre talon and its suprisingly roomy for such a small pack, osprey packs are definetly worth the extra price

Hi Nath. Finally someone that appears to be on similar packing situation. Question for you:
I am also always carrying camera gear. My trips usually consist of 16km/day backpacking trips (3-4 days in most cases) and/or day hikes (usually between 15 to 30km, round trip).
I've been using a 45L backpack which seems to be on the limit in terms of volume.
I was hoping to get a larger backpack like the Atmos 65 and try to use it for both situations. My question to you is: If I remove the top flap and use the compress straps, do you think I could also use this backpack for a full day hike?
I am afraid going with something smaller would give me problems, considering I always have the camera gear taking space. The second reason would be to same some money and have just one backpack instead of two.
    Let me know your thoughts.
    Thanks for the video!

I’m guessing there was more kit in the lid of the rucksack you missed out as it looked like there was more in it than a compass and whistle. I noticed you didn’t mention a first aid kit maybe that was in the lid?
I’m not a photographer so have no idea whether you need all that kit and tripods but there must be lighter options? That aside it still looks like too much kit for an overnighter. A lot of the weight you’re carrying is “hidden” your rucksack is 2.4kg, your sleeping bag 1.3kg, jet boil 400g, Nalgene bottle 108g, etc. Do you need to carry 3L of water? That’s another 3kg, a small filter and you can fill up as you go. Weigh all your stuff right down to stuff sacks and dry bags and look for lighter options. Many years ago I did a camping trip and I struggled with the weight, I couldn’t understand why it was so heavy, I wasn’t carrying much: pack, tent, sleeping bag, food, usual stuff no special equipment but it was close on 20kg! I weighed everything when I got back and was stunned when my pack, sleeping bag and tent was 7kg just for those 3 items! Although things don’t seem that heavy on their own they all add up to a heavy load. I’m a firm believer in “light is right”.

Informative video Nath, well done! Being a keen photographer adds a lot of weight to your pack. Would a monopod in place of the tripod and one of the trekking poles suit you to reduce the load? Regards Keith

I have the women’s version of the atmos, the aura... great little pack. It’s a bit heavier than my first bag but feels lighter when on. EDIT: I have a much cheaper inflatable mat but I sling one of those mylar emergency things underneath as I’m pretty sure the low cost equals a low “R” rating. Noisy but does the job and only weighs about 4grams extra.
