    A lot of people complain about the appearance of these repairs. Thats because a traditional cut repair has more defined edges. Unfortunately, when you saw cut a repair, you're adding 4 additional cracks in the asphalt, that can easily become a problem if not sealed correctly. Infrared fuses the patch to the heated asphalt surrounding the patch, leaving you with the a seamless patch. Also, it takes 1/4 of the time to complete compared to traditional patch methods, and you don't need to dispose the old asphalt.

    Dave Strand! Still the world's biggest tool shed, turning out subpar work and subpar UA-cam vids! If my crew did a patch that looked like this one I'd fire them all and myself.

    Using left over virgin asphalt is better than millings. Small pieces. Also no infared patch is complete without rejuvenation liquid mixed in with old and new material

      I just reached out to a local shingle recycling outfit and they only want $22 a ton for RAS. Do you think RAS could replace liquid rejuve in IR patching?

      Anthony got a link for a rejuvinator online? I've been curious about this. Also I I'll stick with my $40 propane torch. Was it supposed to be on fire? I could hear the remaining oils in the millings crying out 😭

    You didn't add rejuvenator. That isn't going to hold up for very long without it, especially since you are using old asphalt milling.

    You probably don’t have an infrared heater like I do, but a zippo lighter will work just fine!

  • @chuck2585

    First off I’d Ike to say it’s called Asphalt not Ashphalt. Also why would you broom the repair before you used the leaf blower? Also that’s not how you do infrared repairs. You use mix that’s already hot to add into the repair after you heat the area. You don’t put recycled Asphalt in. That patch looks like crap.

    • @9828959
      @9828959  2 роки тому +6

      This is a temporary winter repair when hot mix is not available. Here in Michigan pot holes are a major problem . This is just a way to fix them until a permanent patch can be done when hot asphalt is available.

      Despite the spelling, "ashfalt" is a regional pronunciation. Some places in North America (and many other parts of the world) pronounce it ash instead of as.

      Why is reheated asphalt from a trailer different than reheated asphalt on the ground? If we're comparing apples to apples that is. I built my own IRs and will soon build a little one to straddle a wheelbarrow to replace a hotbox, and the concept is the same regardless of where the reheating takes place.

    We just had our driveway paved. Whoever was operating the roller ran through some dirt before getting back up on to the asphalt. So there's a large area that's discolored because his roller wasn't clean. Wife hates it. Asphalt is now a few weeks freshly paved. Is it too soon to put a seal coat on top of it to make her happy? She wants it perfectly black and nice looking. If we can just seal it now and make it look perfect, what product do you recommend? I'm going to do it myself because we are tired of having to rely on someone "doing it right the first time." That hasn't worked out for us lately.

    • @JonKreibich
      @JonKreibich Рік тому

      He's not burning out asphaltenes, he is burning maltenes. This happens no mater what you do. Even happens with virgin asphalt at the plant before it taken to a job site. Thats why its important to use a high quality maltene rejuvenator such a CRF or Reclamite.

      Most asphalt plants aren't open in winter . And these units heat the asphalt edges to blend them into the recycled asphalt creating a seamless patch .
