Dave Strand! Still the world's biggest tool shed, turning out subpar work and subpar UA-cam vids! If my crew did a patch that looked like this one I'd fire them all and myself.
A lot of people complain about the appearance of these repairs. Thats because a traditional cut repair has more defined edges. Unfortunately, when you saw cut a repair, you're adding 4 additional cracks in the asphalt, that can easily become a problem if not sealed correctly. Infrared fuses the patch to the heated asphalt surrounding the patch, leaving you with the a seamless patch. Also, it takes 1/4 of the time to complete compared to traditional patch methods, and you don't need to dispose the old asphalt.
Using left over virgin asphalt is better than millings. Small pieces. Also no infared patch is complete without rejuvenation liquid mixed in with old and new material
I just reached out to a local shingle recycling outfit and they only want $22 a ton for RAS. Do you think RAS could replace liquid rejuve in IR patching?
Anthony got a link for a rejuvinator online? I've been curious about this. Also I I'll stick with my $40 propane torch. Was it supposed to be on fire? I could hear the remaining oils in the millings crying out 😭
Dave screwed me he high pressured me into sealcoating my asphalt and told me it would run 150$ a gallon and never gave me an exact price and then was done in 3 hours and scared me into paying him 6,900 dollars please fix this Dave
First off I’d Ike to say it’s called Asphalt not Ashphalt. Also why would you broom the repair before you used the leaf blower? Also that’s not how you do infrared repairs. You use mix that’s already hot to add into the repair after you heat the area. You don’t put recycled Asphalt in. That patch looks like crap.
This is a temporary winter repair when hot mix is not available. Here in Michigan pot holes are a major problem . This is just a way to fix them until a permanent patch can be done when hot asphalt is available.
Despite the spelling, "ashfalt" is a regional pronunciation. Some places in North America (and many other parts of the world) pronounce it ash instead of as.
Why is reheated asphalt from a trailer different than reheated asphalt on the ground? If we're comparing apples to apples that is. I built my own IRs and will soon build a little one to straddle a wheelbarrow to replace a hotbox, and the concept is the same regardless of where the reheating takes place.
We just had our driveway paved. Whoever was operating the roller ran through some dirt before getting back up on to the asphalt. So there's a large area that's discolored because his roller wasn't clean. Wife hates it. Asphalt is now a few weeks freshly paved. Is it too soon to put a seal coat on top of it to make her happy? She wants it perfectly black and nice looking. If we can just seal it now and make it look perfect, what product do you recommend? I'm going to do it myself because we are tired of having to rely on someone "doing it right the first time." That hasn't worked out for us lately.
I enjoyed your video! I have four or five similar potholes in a Apt. complex I take care of. What should I expect to pay to get them repaired? Thank you!
Dave you are killing me! Never Burn the asphalt you are burning out the asphaltenes That repair is Terrible!!!!!!!!!! no Rejuvenators. You are giving Infrared process a bad name with this video!
He's not burning out asphaltenes, he is burning maltenes. This happens no mater what you do. Even happens with virgin asphalt at the plant before it taken to a job site. Thats why its important to use a high quality maltene rejuvenator such a CRF or Reclamite.
Was wondering if you really can't do any work in the winter. Thanks for sharing. Cool to see the winter repairs available off season. I wonder how they do it in Alaska with seal coating. Maybe they just don’t do that there.
daddy dave sealcoated my driveway he cleaned it and did a really good job so then it came to the bill…… i have a 2 car driveway and it came out to 13,050$ i had to be his slave for a whole year he abused my body in ways you couldnt think dave you devil.
@@drewerotic I actually built my own (video on my channel) 4x bigger than the RY2x2, and I tried selling it at $25 per foot. Don't believe the hype! $10 per foot was also no bueno. I'm now trying a sliding scale based on number of SF from $10 down to $4. I can build them all day, but selling the service is a way different animal. Don't let IR be your only means to earn.
Wow just watched the vids thats a cool unit! If you ever go public selling those I’d for sure be interested. I want to get an IR heater for jobs that it doesn’t make sense to buy a ton of hot mix. Just keep some millings and rejuv on hand and good to go
Gonna end up with creosote lung messing with that old asphalt with a bunch of random plant debris and old tar mixed in, but it aint me so i dont care, just mentioning 🤷♂️

You didn't add rejuvenator. That isn't going to hold up for very long without it, especially since you are using old asphalt milling.
that's the point 😂

@simd510 k&m international sells it
just call and ask for rejuv for infrared its, like 120 a bucket. Works great

You probably don’t have an infrared heater like I do, but a zippo lighter will work just fine!

How did he scare you into paying $6k?
If you agreed to have him work on your property without a contracted price with a top end cost. That’s on you.

Its ashphalt after he set it on fire :D
Lol that's a terrible repair. Looks like shit
I thought it was not bad. Since the rock will harden, looks bad at first but it’s not.
is this a real repair?😆😅🤣😂WTF...
id clean, tack coat, and apply aquafalt.. probably cheaper too.

unfortunately it won't come out for a while.... id insist on the company who did the driveway to sealcoat it.

Awesome work.
Love these videos
I like that sealcoat truck
This seems like a waste of time when you can just use Hot mix
Most asphalt plants aren't open in winter . And these units heat the asphalt edges to blend them into the recycled asphalt creating a seamless patch .
Imagine being able to re-wet concrete years after it was poured to refill a damaged area and re-smooth the surface?
“like and subscribe so Google sends me more money!”😆👍🏽

I’ve heard $100 per press for something that size. I’m looking to buy one and wondering the same thing
