- Commander Jingles McJingleberry in command of USS Hyram G. Rickover SSN-709. The Soviet Union has invaded West Germany and your mission is to sail from Holy Loch and locate and sink Soviet submarine tenders to curtail Red Banner Northern Fleet submarine operations in the North Atlantic.
Don't screw this up, Commander!
Notice me, Senpai! Jive Turkey's the guy I watch to learn how to not completely suck at Cold Waters -

wouldn't sending a submarine resupply ship to the bottom of the sea just make out more convenient for the submarines? 😅
Thanks Admiral Jingles. You are the man! Love your videos too.
Popping up the surface after everyone is dead = Ultimate t-bag in Cold Waters.
"Wondered who just sunk your task group? Couldn't figure out where those torpedoes were coming from? SURPRISE! It was ME! Over HERE!"
Suddenly surprise helicopter
German U-boats did use to surface and pick up (some) survivors from their rampage (when possible) in WW2.
U-Boats also surfaced to use their deck gun vs lone un-armed ships when possible.
which makes me wonder why they ditched it after WWII
THE RICKOVER!!!! I served on her. I was on her last deployment before Decommission!!! Awesome Jingles
*Watches the sub sink later in the series*
Sorry bro
@@karlmorgan8580 yup that was unfortunate
Bless you sailor and thank you for your service and vigilance
If the Soviet sub commanders don't have Scottish accents I will be very disappointed
Jar Jar Binks you don't get the reference, do you?
because that's relevant
someone with a jar jar avatar and a weeb, having a go at me about my profile pic for no reason. Why???? are you insane
>Center Left
>Libertarian
Pick one.
This is so therapeutic
Our overlord's voice calms all his subjects
And puts some to sleep.
Jingles, you should definitely captain a Balao class and call it the Stingray. For comedic purposes.
down periscope reference!
YEEEEEAAAAAAHHHHH COLD WATERSSS WOOOOOOOOHHHHH
*haven't even watch the video yet*
YEEAAAAHAHHHHH
just like me, loooove it, if you can be stealthy its so much fun (but slower)
Yeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!
Spoiler warning:
This video contains submarines.
Honestly I'm 4/4 on commenting on jingles videos and being too commenter... do I get a day off from the salt mine?
yes, if you can break from the mines do it, spare yourself from the salt
ehco gaming You're not happy with your work?!!! QAUDRUPLE SHIFTS!
This is TOTALLY making me want to re-read Red Storm Rising.
I used to only play this style of game for the longest time, until Gears of War, Mass Effect, and MMOs like War Thunder started sucking me in. I feel this drawing me back into the genre...
Additional: I started watching/listening to some other Tubers and boy... they can get hard to listen to with the constant chatter and trying to jazz up the events. Jingles makes this eminently enjoyable just because he has a much more sonorous voice and manner of speaking.
*Cold waters vid pops up from Jingles* Me *Ascended* .
Vents 4 yeah, me too
yes we can all die now
The same, very happy!
Your towed array is only deployed at a speed of 5 kts if I recall correctly. Slowing down to that speed can help detecting targets much easier!
I was wondering every time he talked about the towed array whether he he actually had it deployed.
The towed array is automatically handled by the crew in CW. Although they reel it in instantly, I don't really miss having to do it myself. Aside from bringing it in at high speeds, they also reel it in when you get approximately 170 feet from the bottom (in CW). So be aware whether you're towed sonar is out when you're deep in shallow water.
Ohhh, the whole time I thought he was talking about a "TOAD" array. I had assumed it was an acronym for something.
It is still deployed at 10kts, but it's efficiency is reduced. Check the ownship column.
and getting dotmod adds a REAL towed array
Play enough of this and you're going to be very disappointed going back to games where the torpedoes only travel in straight lines, and miss most of the time - LOL!
They only miss if you don't do your math right and your target knows your there.
GiantSavage117 you masochist
Awesome. Please make more vids based on this game.
I second that emotion.
Carried!
Jingles, thanks for showcasing this game. I was on US subs as a Sonarman and have been looking for a good sub game for quite awhile. Keep up the great content!!
22:05 jingles that's a noise maker, the sonar even tells you that.
Back in 1998 I spent 3 weeks onboard the USS Atlanta (SSN-712), which was berthed next to the USS Rickover in Norfolk, VA. The Atlanta was considered one of the worst submarines in terms of material condition, at that time, and the Rickover was considered one of the best. When I asked a few crewman why two submarines next to each other would have such a significant difference in material readiness, the response I received was "guess which ship gets more funding - the one named after a famous Admiral." Like many things in the military, it's all about perception and looking good, so it was not surprising. It was a fun 3 weeks however, spending a few days in Nova Scotia at the end before going home.
hahaha, just came here from Jive Turkey.... but Jingles is Jingles and Jingles should do the Jingles thing. Fun to watch both, nonetheless.
was looking forward to another cold waters video!
Jive Turkey has to say thanks to you, Jingles. It's interesting, how much views and subscribers he got because of your channel.
And, as always, great video.
The Soviets didn't even realize how important sound silencing was until it was leaked by John Walker. The whole game was changed.
Watching the first 5 minutes, it was clear that Jingles has spent a good hour or so watching Jive Turkey's videos! I spent 4 hours watching them because they're great!
Thank you for streaming this game! Already had it on my wish list as i served 5 years in the Submarine force as a Fire Control Technician. It was awesome watching the video before you learned more and the after. Good combat and good explanation of your reasoning behind doing certain things :) Cant wait to see the next one!
JiveTurkey really is an awesome resource for this game. Love how he uses the Moss.
"I'm here to sink subs and subtenders, and I'm all outta subs."
(Starts longest fight scene in recorded history)
I found Jive Turkey a couple days ago out of the blue and it just so happened to be at a time where everyone was saying "jingles sent them..." Of course I've always loved your World of Warships vids so I've known you a little while now. I now have two favorite Naval dudes to watch when I should be working!
Suggestion Jingles, come to bearing of contact and go ALL stop and drift for a bit you'd be surprised what you can detect.
"The Reds attacked West Germany" - Red Storm Rising plot in a very small nutshell.
"I'm gonna fire the harpoon and... OH we've sunk the Don! No need for the harpoon!"
I love Cold Waters!!! Keep 'em comin' Jingles McJingleberry
27:36 Sinking ship in background of shot near the prop...
I can't get enough of this game!
My grandfather would have loved this. He was a U.S. Naval officer during the Cold War and was a submariner. He told me a story how he and his submarine got chased by two Russian destroyers while on "patrol" in the Arctic in the late 1950's.
Cool to see another interesting submarine game. My father served in a sub so he had me play older sub games and watch all the classic sub movies when I was younger.
Jingles: He's going to tell me "Hard work is it's own reward." or some shit like that.
You can always tell a real navy man when he starts complaining.
When I was still in the service, I used to play Silent Hunter, Red Storm Rising, and Sea Wolf on my Commodore 64. I loved the sneaky sub games, especially when they had "modern" subs and armaments. I'm glad to see Cold Waters has recaptured that awesome feel. I will be picking up the game when I get paid next. Keep up the great content!
I've watched a few UA-camrs play this, and you are by far the most fun to watch. Educational and smart playing. Thanks!
I'm liking the new Cold Waters videos. It's also nice to see a Jingles Landing (so to speak) at the end of the mission.
Jingles -- This game is incredible and I think the perfect match for your experience and knowledge. I hope we can expect many more videos! :)
McJingleberry :D
If peeps want to know more about Submarine operations from a Royal Navy perspective, there's an excellent book documenting operations and the development of the 'Silent Service' from 1945-2015 called 'Silent Deep'. Authored by Peter Hennessy and James Jinks - really is and excellent read.
Love this game Jingles, and love your content on it! please keep this series!!!
"It was only ever really intended to operate in coastal waters...oh, we got him"
Good show, mate! For me, three decades of experience playing all sorts of simulations, specifically naval genre, added fundamental skills to playing Cold Waters. As a general rule of thumb in a sub, "slow and low" is key to victory.
It's awesome to watch this with your expertise on naval warfare
This plays like The Hunt for the Red October, gripping-best series yet Jingles!
OMG I STARTED WATCHING JIVE TURKEY AFTER THAT FIRST VIDEO YOU PUT UP JINGLES
Yes! Jingles! Finally someone who knows what they're doing! EE's constant cavitation and sitting on active sonar in silent running is driving me nuts!
Turning your Sub broadside to a contact?
That's a SONAR-ing
*Periscope up!*
"Sir I spot a new Cold Waters video from Jingles!"
"Better get those Mk 48's popping boys otherwise we'll be on the receiving end of surprise rear ending!"
I was an instant fan when I visited Jive Turkey's channel ... Sadly work in the salt mines never stops ...
Just an FYI Jingles, if you spot a surface group and want to really get the drop on them, just get in front on the strategic map and let them bump into you. If you make contact while stationary then you start the mission at periscope depth and only going 5 knots. Load harpoons and opt to close the distance to 25kyds. It becomes a turkey shoot.
Love the Cold Waters videos Jingles! Just one thing, in that submarine contact at the start, in the results screen, there was actually a Victor class somewhere that you were SHOCKINGLY lucky didn't engage you when you flattened the November!
You know that you also have a Radar Mast, right? So when you are fairly certain that you've eliminated all targets and no surfrace contacts remain, then after the ESM Mast return no signature, you can raise the Radar to be absolutely certain
Oh dear God, don't use active radar. I did that once. Nothing on sonar, nothing visible on the periscope, nothing on the ESM. Activated radar, 60 seconds later there were 8 (eight) SS-N-14s in the water around me. A Kara just fired its entire load at my radar's position.
@@nindger4270 roughly translated as "You're right, and properly fucked"
Jingles... i absolutely love these videos where you talk about the history of things in-game and how they work. Please don't ever stop.
I've been playing the game a bunch, and have found a useful trick for the later campaign, when you first spawn into the mission, you can just chuck a torpedo towards the contact, and if the wire doesn't break I hit that target ~75% of the time (because i can actually acquire the target before the torp gets there, so i can activate it and get it pointed the right way). So basically the free location from the mission start gives you a free shot at the enemy even if he's completely undetected.
And even if it misses if the target is a submarine it will usually go to flank speed and cavitate for you
We need more Cold Waters. We love the commentary and the facts about the subs and submarine warfare.
You impressed me with the multiple blindshots that all went well.
Nice job Commander!
Jingles, you did it again- everybody is happy and looking forward to the next Cold Waters video :)
This is like watching one of those hunting or fishing shows where they quietly whisper and talk about what their prey is doing for 75% a time without any actual action. Interesting game though with jingles commentary adding the cherry on top.
Hey Jingles, please make this a regular thing for the channel! Really loving your "new to this submarine lark" approach. Makes the rest of us Cold Waters noobs feel a little bit better about ourselves, especially after watching Jive Turkey go full "pro mode" and singlehandedly take on the entire Soviet navy and come out of it without so much as a stratch!
Being a sonar tech in the navy and watching makes me laugh
I watched jive turkey at your advice, and I love him. BUT, more importantly, I feel much appreciating to our gnome overlord for bringing us more cold waters
Interesting, the SSN-709, Hyman G. Rickover, was a real sub. While the game-time seems very compressed(everything seems to be happening at more or less the same time in early December 1984), the Rickover entered into service in July of the same year...so, she more or less have that new-car smell, still.
I very much enjoy these vids, Jingles. Really like the game play as it puts a significant emphasis on strategy and tactics and is less focused on high speed shooter type action. Kudos good sir!
I much prefer this actual silent hunter killer style to those people who just play to evade torpedoes. Happy Hunter Jingles, Great Video!
hey Jingles, as im watching your episode, here in the US specifically the state of Illinois in the city of Chicago, there is a high school that is named after Admiral Rickover and follows the US Navies ranks and guidelines and uses actual uniforms from the US Navy. I happen to be a Graduate of that school and i thought it would be a cool thing to mention. Love the cold water episodes and cant wait to see more.
Hi Jingles, please keep the Cold Waters videos coming, we love them and can't get enough!
PLEASE do more of these videos. Im loving this jingles :)
A UA-camr who actually learns something and tries to get better at a games he makes a letsplay of? Colour me impressed Sir!
For some reason, it's more entertaining than I expected to be from a game about submarines.
I know shit about submarine warfare, so if it wasn't for Jingles narration I would never know what's happening there. Makes it really interesting when I do.
Jingles, nice job as always. Looking forward to more of theses vids. A suggestion on your attack against the surface group: You may want to fire you 1st torp against the furthest target and then the 2nd for the 2nd furthest etc. This decreases the reaction time for all enemies and helps to blow them to bits. Regards,
Now jingles can have real surprise butsex
The sweet sweet sound of jingles, I love it
Back in 92, we were X (a lot) miles away from 2 contacts. Vanguard and Turbulent playing silly buggers with each other, we classified and moved away...they didn't know we we're there.... shippers.... going to buy this based on these vids
More please jingles! This series makes me ascend parascope!
Thanks Jingles, these cold waters videos are fun to watch.
I love this game! Just watching you play it and walk us through it makes me want to go and buy it! I have waited for a very, very long time for a good submarine game, this seems to punch the ticket quite nicely! Good day Jingles!
You are the only person playing Cold Waters on youtube who actually knows what they are doing
one can clearly see that Jingles has watched a lot of JiveTurkeys videos lately, even the sub-lingo is rubbing off on him ;D
But those things are in the game? You get a popup when it says a ship is cavitating, where the thermal layer is, etc. Not to mention Jingles was in the RN, so he probably knew that stuff already.
I know I know, and he has probably a lot of naval knowledge .... but especially talking of 'bubble' & announcing firing-point procedure & which tube he'll fire from is a Thing Jive does all the time (and jingles didnt before) - so I think he has picked it up (intentionally or not). I like it! :)
Jingles wasn't Silent Service so The bubble wouldn't be in his vocabulary Nor would FPP unless he was an ASW Weps Officer
This is my new favorite series! Hearing you discuss naval tactics in such detail is a joy.
30:15 watching that sinking sub....oh man just a game but still slightly stomach churning!
thanks jingles!! keep more comming!!
I gotta say, I am really enjoying these cold water videos! Keep them up :D
Good series. First thing I've been interested in other than WOT in awhile. Keep um coming Jingles!
I'm sure that Captain Jive Turkey can explain this much better, but I believe that when trying to find a contact through the layer, your best bet is to go as deep as you can. The closer you get to the "sound channel" (which is quite deep) the better chance you'll have of picking it up.
I was looking forward to some more Cold Waters. Keep up the great work Jingles, thanks for posting videos to keep me occupied for a little while I appreciate it.
28:50 - Yeah, it's a lucky break those sailors on the Tango-class were already on the surface. Now instead of drowning in the Arctic Ocean in the middle of December, they'll freeze to death in the Arctic Ocean in the middle of December.
Another Cold Waters video? You have made me very happy Jingles.
I must say, for a world of tanks fan I bloody love these videos. Good work old chap
There's another fun recent navy game released called Carrier Deck that Jingles or anyone else for that matter may be interested in. Its essentially a carrier flight ops management game, a bit arcade-like but still quite satisfying.
30:20 Don goes BOOM!
30:41 Jingles notices.
Yeah...
28:08 "were not below 300 ft yet" Jingles said at a depth of 350 ft. Ah, glad to see you've always been this way, Read Admiral.
Soviet major units (frigates and better) carry a pair of RBU-1000 ASW rocket launchers mounted on the aft quarters of the vessel to fire into the path of incoming torpedoes. Soviet vessels also carry 533mm deck torpedoes for use not only against surface targets, but also ASW guided torpedo (UGST/ A-P-WF-WG /40km@50kts) , and ASW stand-off weapons (SS-N-16a/RPK-6) which carry either a UMGT-1 (450mm)(8 km@41kts) Torpedo or Nuke DC. Soviet warships have very capable anti-torpedo and ASW weapons, especially when you include the close range RBU-6000 (6km range) launchers.
Keep em comming Jingles - love these Cold Waters Vids
I really love this. You are by far the best UA-camr for games I know. I always get super excited and happy when you make a new video!
So vacation just started and I am really sick already. Thanks for giving me something right now, it means a lot to me.
loving the cold waters content, such a breath of fresh air with the knowledge you bring to the channel jingles
Also affirming surface ship without helicopters is dead meat. In training at Guantanamo Bay (pre-prison days, back in the dawn of time) the training sub had us pulling away from the dock. And this was a diesel-electric, possibly the last one in the U.S. Navy inventory and certainly obsolescent in the early 1970's.
This is my new favorit game!
With both Jingles and now (because I only learned of him because of Jingles) Jive Turkey, means I can learn more about this game :D
I cant wait for the next video, i find this sub stuff so interesting to watch.
