This is Absolutely absolutely a genuine nightmare. Iconic ending, but unbelievably unfair to the person who did EVERYTHING right and still got screwed.
For those wondering what happened to him, I will explain. For those who have seen the movie, when he was trying to escape from the building, the inside of the building collapsed and he got crushed to death. His soul then went into the mirror world and his soul is trapped inside the mirror world. That's why no one could see him and to why he didn't see his own reflection
He was crushed to death while he was trying to escape but he didn't realised until he "got out" since who dies in the Mayflower has their souls absorbed into the mirror world. Like you see hands on the mirrors at the start of the movie when he first wanders in the building, those are the people's soul who died there in the Asylum.

By the comments, I already know that I'm in disagreement with almost everyone here. But all of you had the opportunity to express your admiration for it, therefore it's only fair that I can express my disdain. This ending was absolute, nonsensical garbage. I'll explain why. Before Anna was given the "mirror treatment", there was nothing supernatural about the mirrors, and there is no reason, occording to the plot, to believe that there was anything unusual about the mirrors prior to Anna's "treatments". After several sittings in the mirror room, the demon that was possesing Anna left her and entered the mirrors. Through some, inexplicable reason, (assumingly only because demons are powerful, supernatural beings) it was able to possess ALL MIRRORS IN THE ENTIRE WORLD (or at the very least, the entirety of America.) So, I suspended my (overbearing and crushing) disbelief and allowed this for the sake of story telling and suspense. Ben, being the good detective he is, uncovers the mystery of "Esseker" and finds the surviving Anna. He then forcibly returns her to the mirror room where she is repossessed by the demon living in the mirrors. This is key. We see the demon entering her, VISIBLY SEE IT, for *several* frames, meaning the demon has *left* the mirrors, *returned* to "our world," and has lost *all* power and control over the mirrored world. The mirrors have returned to normal, everyday reflections. This is evidenced by all of the mirrors shattering in the Mayflower, further evidenced by Ben's son, Michael, arising back through the floor and into the real world. The curse has been broken; the mirrors are no longer a threat. A fight breaks out between Ben and the possessed Anna, leaving us, the viewers, to be uncertain of whether Anna survived. (She had already been impaled and exploded by this point; it seems strange that some heavy stones would do the trick after seeing that.) Unfortunately, Ben is also crushed after the explosion. He seems, at first, to come out hurt yet alive, but it's quickly revealed that he is...in the mirrored world. As previously stated, the mirrors had returned to normal. The demon living in them was what was causing the mirrors to behave in the way that they were, at least that was what we were told by the plot. There was nothing in the story to suggest that the mirrors themselves were supernatural. We know that the demon collected the souls of his victims, and those souls were trapped in the mirror with him. But the mirrors were broken; the souls the demon had trapped should have either been released or followed him into the real world. With this logic, even if Ben had been collected by the demon and became a phantom, he should not have entered a mirrored world. It opened a whole slew of gaps and plotholes in what could have been a decent horror movie. Alright, rant over. Thanks for hearing me out.
Well, Victoria, this is actually a great analysis and even though I absolutely loved the ending because of the massive rug pull it pulled on the audience, I do agree that you make very interesting points and tackle several gaps that, if used correctly, could have explained the outcome better. I still enjoy the movie but I think that your comments could be a good base for a horror story with a little more attention to detail and internal logic that delivers.
@@FreeRadical09 I'm glad you enjoyed the analysis, and I apologize for the salt sprinkled within it. I have a passion for horror movies that leaves me frequently disappointed. Perhaps I'm too critical. That said, I'm glad you enjoyed the movie. It *was* a decent film with some genuinely chilling scenes. (Amy Smart in the bathtub - oof.) I think that was why I was so disappointed by the ending. It had such potential, just to let the ball drop (in my opinion) at the very end, which is, sadly, all too typical with the horror genre.
@@victoria7601 No, I don't think you're too critical. I also believe that intelligent horror movies are scarce unfortunately, since most resort to formula or disturbing visuals for the sake of shock, which is why I rarely watch modern horror movies. Mirrors, at least to me, seemed to be a departure from that and why I loved it so much overall. You pointed out some very valid flaws in the internal logic, which would have made for a deeper movie but maybe if they had thought things through so much, perhaps they would have missed the window to make the film at all. Do you happen to be a writer by any chance? Or just a very keen observer?
@@FreeRadical09 I agree wholeheartedly. It's a bit of a double-edged sword, loving horros movies in the way that I do. I have high standards for a genre that is notorious for producing cheap, money grabs. That's why the classics are the best. John Carpenter's The Thing is a personal favorite, a near perfect execution of horror in every way. You make a valid point that had the plot been deeper it could have been passed up entirely. There is a certain demand in modern horror to come up with some mind boggling twist for the ending, but it more often than not falls flat. Sometimes letting something rest comfortably is better than trying to squeeze something that's gone entirely dry. But comfortable endings don't necessarily sell, and that's the real soul-draining aspect of the industry. Art doesn't need to sell. It simply is what it is. Van Gough is an excellent example of that, actually. I'm rambling now. I dabble in writing and enjoy it, but I don't do it professionally, even though I'd love to someday, hah. Are you a writer? It's refreshing to see someone in the youtube comments section who actually knows how to string together a sentence.
His body got crashed under the rumbling and his soul got trapped in the mirror world, he is definitely dead so no sequel.... it is sad though, he understood the task, did everything that needed to be done, and still couldn't make it. Great ending for a wonderful movie.
Здесь говорят по-английски. Я использую переводчик Google. Извините. Надеюсь, в этом есть смысл. Я не думаю, что концовка была сделана хорошо.
Ending like this suggest there should be a sequel
His body got crashed under the rumbling and his soul got trapped in the mirror world, he is definitely dead so no sequel.... it is sad though, he understood the task, did everything that needed to be done, and still couldn't make it. Great ending for a wonderful movie.
So.... He's in the mirror dimension?? Call doctor strange..
Es la misma musica de middle night
Then next when mirror 2 will release ?!??
It been out lol
@@bayfinest1938 why?!
