      @FishingwithRod  3 роки тому +1

      I'm sure you can do that too. I always say that you pay for convenience. These 3" X 3" squares are perfect for tying up these roe sacs. I can just buy a pack and tie up a few dozens without having to look around for fabrics and cut to the sizes I want.

    • @Scott-jj5on

      @@FishingwithRod I agree,I've used both,I actually haven't noticed tying sacks any easier using both. I like the red wedding veil because it holds the red color better to the cured eggs. How often do you rebait with the roe bags?

    • @FishingwithRod
      @FishingwithRod  3 роки тому

      It depends on how the eggs are looking in the mesh. Once they start getting water logged, turning white, deflated, losing scent etc, then I'd change. You'd get a lot more drifts per bag than just a chunk of roe on the hook for sure.

    • @FishingwithRod
      @FishingwithRod  3 роки тому

      I have used roe bags on and off for twenty years now but my preference is always roe chunks. For the most part I think it's just that I have more confidence on them. The advantage of roe bags is definitely convenience and efficiency. Take last Tuesday for example when I was fishing in the cold and rain, my fingers basically became so numb that I could no longer bait my hook with the roe chunks and went home instead while the fish were still biting. That would not have been the case if I had roe bags with me.

      Cats? Not sure how many of those you'd catch. 😂 Well a roe sack can stay on the hook forever so it really depends on how water logged and discoloured the eggs get. Once I feel that they are not really that scented anymore, I switch up.

    So the vedder fall river season is done. Your vids are nice and educational, but also discouraging, to be honest. One suggestion. Do a vid for those of us who cant catch a coho to save our life. Maybe somthing on the lines of positive thinking,my experience this season, has been crap, the tackle stores just say there is lots of fish and it's a record year, and take your money. They say my gear and tactics is wrong. Yet I have duplicated all tactics as yours and others setups, And yes where is the motivation to come back again and again. I hear some folks fished 10 days to get their first coho. Others nothing until year two or three. Yet many anglers laugh at me. When I say I haven't caught a coho after 20 trips on the ved this year, 10% of the fisherman on the ved get 90% of the fish... a wise fisherman told me that in July. I laughed then. But not anymore....

    • @FishingwithRod
      @FishingwithRod  3 роки тому

      James, the Vedder River fall salmon fishing season is not done yet, it typically extends until early December. There are definitely lots of fish returning to the river this year, but that doesn't mean they have been easy to catch. Coho salmon fishing has been exceptionally challenging this year as they have behaved quite differently compared to past seasons. Just to give you some perspective, to date I have caught five hatchery coho salmon since September 1st, while previous seasons I would have 20 or 30 by now. This hasn't been due to a lack of trying either, as we probably have invested 20 to 30 days on fishing and filming this fishery this season. I'd like to think my videos are positive and motivating, with lots of tips people can pick up and use them to their advantage. Good luck.

    • @JamesTKirk-yz5ng
      @JamesTKirk-yz5ng 3 роки тому

      Ok thanks, Rod , it's interesting to hear the coho are behaving differently this year. I'm curious what may cause that ? Is that due to the increased pressure on the system? I agree that the content is positive, lol I'm just frustrated, but I'll keep up the quest :)

    • @FishingwithRod
      @FishingwithRod  3 роки тому +1

      No worries, you're not the only one who has been frustrated lol. Many would say fishing pressure has turned the bites off, but I personally don't think so as I have seen coho being way more aggressive when there were even more anglers around. Being a non-pink year and no salmon spawning in September, it makes them less likely to bite bait and this season has just been more extreme than others. Coincide that with river conditions (low and clear for the most part), their mind has just been on moving than biting most of the time.
