Hi! My name is Leonie and I am a 25 year old girl from the Netherlands who loves talking about books! From YA to non-fiction to classics, I read it all (although fantasy will always be my fave).

random thing that pleases me a lot about the book leo videos: the choice of keeping a small cover of the book up the screen the whole time she's talking about it
I have noticed that too and I definitely appreciate it 📚
ya i very much agree! cause some people go to fast and i can't google it or what not
You definitely have to go in expecting a little bit of drama and a little bit of nonsense. I personally didn’t like it but I understood it.

"What do you mean, I have to accept myself the way I am? Ew." Love you, Leonie, that was hilarious 😂
Leonie’s aesthetic >>>
Real
Agreed ❤️
I miss read that autistic
IN DEFENSE OF White Nights: I don't know who recommended it to you as the "greatest love story" but this doesn't make ANY sense to me. This is one of my FAVORITE books, like TOP 3, and I would never call it a great love story, or even a love story. The whole essence of the book (imo) is the characterization of the hopeless dreamer who only romanticizes life and fantasizes instead of actually LIVING LIFE, and this book portrays it beuatifully but also shows you how that turns out. It's almost a cautionary tale. I find it really really beautiful but also gut wrenching if you end up relating to the protagonist.
It's really sad that people still praise russian literature while russians are destroying Ukrainian publishing house warehouses.
A thunderstorm and heavy rain literally started about 20 minutes ago… So perfect timing for this video I guess 💙
was it raining all around the world lolll. my cousins in prauge rn and it was rainy there and it was raining here in Florida too 😂
The Familiar was one of my faves this past month, actually. I'm so burned out on romantasy, that I enjoyed the setting and a lot of other societal issues taking the forefront, while the romance was there, but didn't dominate the whole plot, and Luzia and Santangel both had their own conflicts independent of each other that they were able to come together and solve.
no joke i’ve been scrolling for 20mins desperately looking for something to watch while i eat! I’M SEATED TIME TO WATCH
too true
Omg why is this me? I do this before I hop in a bath too lmfao
literally me right now lmao
The thunderstorm was perfect aesthetic for this vide. Loving the vibes.
on white nights (spoilers!!): i think that it’s important for you to be able to relate to the main character a little bit in order for it to become special which isn’t necessarily something anyone can do. it’s about a man who had nothing but his wild imagination and suddenly experience something he could barely touch on in his dreams which is essentially real love. the fact that he, for the first time is able to open up to someone who is willing to understand his situation gives him hope (because what can you do as a dreamer if not secretly hope) so this situation turned his entire life around - he went from having nothing to having basically everything. all this only for it to be taken away again after just a few days which is what makes this story so incredibly tragic.
sorry i’m really rambling here but i just wanted to elaborate on the having to relate to the main character aspect! essentially, it is especially hard to come to terms with when you (being a dreamer yourself) put yourself in his shoes, knowing that you could potentially experience this as well. what the story ends with is him reflecting that it was basically only for a second and yet it was enough - he lost everything but he did get to have it for a moment and he is ‘happy’ with that. the dreamer remains a dreamer, all the stories he imagined about him and nastenka building a life together will stay just that - a dream
Thunder is the best intro for a booktube vid ever and you cannot convince me otherwise
I finished "The picture of Dorian Gray" half an hour ago and it's definitely one of my favorite books. There's just so much to analyze and it's so phylosophical. I feel like I am going to think about it for a while. Also I like how basically the entire plot can be summorized like this (slight spoilers ahead):
Henry wants to meet Basil's friend Dorian but Basil says no because he's the gay mom friend who doesn't want his crush to get ruined by YOLO-Harry. Harry doesn't care and meets Dorian anyway and proceeds to give him body dysmorphia and gerentophobia within one afternoon which causes Dorian to develop a hate-love-relationship with a painting.
It's just so beautiful.
I've been meaning to read this book, I'm kinda afraid to start bc old books are harder to read :')
@@pomaranczowaszarlotka this book is not hard at all, don't worry. The prose is beautiful and sometimes they do ramble a lot 😂 but it's not boring.
For OP: I don't know which version you read, the standard 'novel' published in 1891, or the one published by Lipincotts Magazine in 1890. Or even the original manuscript. But I strongly urge you to read at least 2 of them: the final version from 1891 and the manuscript from 1890 that is a little bit more gay 😅
OK your review just bumped this book way up on my tbr ❤
@@priiifrg Thank you
I love the way you describe books, you don’t really just go over the synopsis and tell use whether you liked it or not. You really paint a picture of what the book is like and what kind of reader would appreciate it. I’ve heard the synopsis for A Dowry of Blood 100 times but never had any interest in reading it, but the fact that you were the first person who actually described what this book is actually like (written in letter format, it’s about obsession, it’s not an epic story, it’s atmospheric) made me realize this actually is something i would enjoy!!
I haven't read 'Emily Wilde's Enciclopedia', so I can't compare them directly, but in case you were intrigued by the woman-fantasy-scholar setup, I can really recommend the 'The Memoirs of Lady Trent' series, which I enjoyed immensely. :D
The MC is a dragon scholar and travels the world for her studies. :)
Second this!
Omg that sounds so cool
Yes! That series is so good!
OMG that notion template just made my life so much easierrrr 😭
I've heard about Emily Wild from almost every booktuber I follow but your description is the one that finally pushed me to make a decision and add it to my tbr. Also I need to look for Perfume in my library, I've been meaning to read it for literal years! 📚
The movie Perfume is also very very good. I haven't read the book but it's been years since I've seen it and damn it's still stuck in my mind in far too many details.
Personally, I HATED Emily Wild’s but to be fair I don’t like a lot of booktuber darlings. I’m kinda unromantic and I don’t like YA though so there’s that. I did LOVE a Dowry of Blood though, and I hate Sally Rooney so me and Leonie aren’t in super agreement on everything lol
Perfume is Kurt Cobain's favorite book, if this does not convince you to read it, I am at a loss as to what will
how does your hair keep getting prettier and prettier 😍 it really suits you so much!
also i love the storm sounds in the background haha
love how the thunderstorm fits perfectly with Leonie’s cozy vibes and atmosphere >>>>
Finally someone talking about my babygirl Constanta ! I LOVED a Dowry of Blood, it really immersed me. I agree I would have liked it to be slightly longer, but the discourse about love and abuse still did it for me.
Honestly I have to say I enjoy you videos so so much! They just always have such a cozy vibe and I enjoy listening to your voice. I really like that you give your honest review and always stay true to yourself. It is really refreshing in this world of social media being always somewhat crafted and fake.
It just gives me the feeling of talking to a friend about books!
So thank you for your videos ❤
Same I love reading about cults and scams! I recommend the book “My Friend Anna: The True Story of a Fake Heiress”
I definitely agree about The Familiar needing to be longer. I really wanted more delving into the magic itself.
Glad Notion is sponsoring you! I found out about it through one of your videos where you were showing your book tracking page and that rocks
My day just got better!
I love this kind of videos! and your review of The Familiar was the the one I was expecting the most
thank you soo much for the template leonie.. its so prettyyyyyy i love it
Love your content Leonie! the cosy vibes and the honest reviews are chefs kiss. Also, your hair is sooo pretty ♥
I like how the thunder matches with what you're saying most of the time haha
When Leonie said she thinks she interprets it the wrong way I remembered a teacher who told us in class that there’s no wrong may to interpret and how much she loves hearing different interpretations
… yeah just five minutes later I gave her mine interpretation of a poem and she said I’m interpreting it wrong 🙃
I love rainy weather in May and the summer months ❤ Of course not all the time haha, I also love sunny days in spring and summer. But there's just something different about rainy weather during these months, with all the green plantlife
A separate thank you for the notion template! I've been recently thinking about making something like that, but I had no energy to start.
and, as always, thank you for the cozy video :)
I’ve been using the book hub template Leonie made and it is FABULOUS!!!!! Obsessed with this it’s amazing 🤩
Friday got much better thanks to your video
always nice to see other people enjoying rain as much as I do, meanwhile my parents have been absolutely miserable with the weather this spring.
This cozy video inspired me to get out of my reading slump. Thank you Leonie 🥰
My fave youtuber is back ❤
Those graphic guides are awesome... Shoutout to all the Masters of Useless Trivia! 🙃
It's winter in Brazil now, and in my city, it's been really cold and raining all night. Perfect weather for reading vampire books and having a coffee.
I'd love to have a Notion or a spreadsheet, but I have more than 900 books on my TBR list - it would take all year just to organize it. I feel stuck with Goodreads :(
Perfume has been on my list for at least five years, and this video made me want to finally read it.
Last but not least: your hair looks amazing, the short cut suits you really well.
Ooh chaos theory! As a physics undergrad, love that ❤ It is hard tho. But a very beautiful area of physics.
If you want to learn more about chaos, I recommend trying to look for chaos in biology instead, as you're more familiar with biology from your grade if I remember correctly? There's chaos (and complex systems) in for example in how the patterns of shells or zebras or giraffe happen. There's probably a lot of it in neuroscience too. (I mean, our current ai models is basically neuroscience simplified.) There's also the patterns of monkey movements, bird murmurations and how populations of animals grow or not in the prescence of other external factors or predators. I honestly don't know any introductory books but chaos and complex systems are a relatively new field of study, at least outside of its pure mathematical form, so there's not a lot out info there 😅
Chaos theory is really difficult to get without knowing dynamical systems. For an exam, I had to build Chua’s circuit which is chaotic and it was a mess. My prototype never actually worked out of simulations 😥
I recently read Jane Eyre and oh my, I can totally understand why it's one of your uptimate faves! I absolutely adored it 💜
Just in time for me to watch while I eat breakfast. This is gonna be a good day now
A few days ago, I finished *The Gilded Wolves* trilogy thanks to your recommendation Leonie, and I loved it ! It's my favorite read of this year so far.
The cardigan is SO CUTE aaa
Your hair looks absolutely gorgeous!! Love the shorter look on you
I love those 'Introducing [subject]' books!
This May I read "On Woman" by Susan Sontag. Really wonderful essay collection!
I’ve been reading the wicked king (yes I’m late to the show yes it’s amazing) your recs never fail to disappoint
Shout out to the editing! It's been getting steadily better every video, and that's neat :)
The rain vibes are immaculate 👌🏼
Also scams are my secret obsession too!! Please give all your scan related Recs!
The best romantasy but also some of the best books I've ever read are T Kingfishers!
Swordheart and the Paladin series are so fun ☺️☺️☺️
Glad I’m not the only one that was disappointed in a Dowry of Blood. I felt like there could’ve been so much more to it, and I was hoping it would’ve been a favorite as well but really disappointed me instead. I felt like it never went beyond what the synopsis told us in terms of emotional depth
I dream about your notion template so thank you for sharing it!!! 💓💐
So excited for you to read Rouge! I feel the same way about Bunny as you do and Rouge was incredible for me. Can’t wait to hear your thoughts
I loved Emily Wilde 🥰 and love the chill way you discuss books
My favorite UA-cam channel as a chronically online person , not gonna lie
Perfume was on my read list for ages. Then I watched your readathon and your description sounded like I should reaaaally read it. Have a copy here now :)
I really like what you did to your hair Leonie 😊❤
Thanks for sharing your template Leonie
really feel the podcast struggle! i listen to quite a few fiction podcasts and started to see them simply as part of the stories i consume. since they're basically audio books, that's the catergory my brain puts them in though :D
There are books that you _know_ you're gonna love. I know I'm gonna love The Familiar. I can't wait!!
omg you look absolutely gorgeous with this hair!!!!💜💜💜💜💜💜
perfect timing ✨
Just a thing that happened to me yesterday about that overconfident thing you were talking about. I got a letter grade taken off one of my papers for my masters in mental health counseling because I was “over confident”. It was a journal paper over how I feel about delivering assessment results to clients and I felt that I had done well in that in a previous course so I said I had no “concerns”. My professor said it wasn’t okay and that over confidence causes small errors….it honestly blew my mind. Especially since the rubric was informal and just doing a vibe check about the final project. Like I get that sentiment but all I said was that I felt comfortable talking to clients about assessments. Just another example of a society telling me not to be confident in my competency….
You should read interview with the vampire!!
I felt the same way about The Familiar! I had really high expectations but had a hard time connecting and actually caring about the chracters. Loved Emily's Encyclopedia of Faeries too! you should read the second book :)
i love your videos so much!!!
Yesss ❤ finally someone else who else read the familiar 🙌
Okay love the hair cut
this haircut suits you so well!
The hair os hairing girly. Another amazing video. I enjoyed every second ❤
perfume is one of my allll time favorites omg
it being so funny caught me off guard i found myself laughing throughout the entire reading experience
Perfume is one of my favorite books of all time . The movie is quite good too .
Thunderstorms are the best to read to! I'm glad you liked Perfume, it is such an interesting yet disturbing book
I just read Self-Made Boys: A Great Gatsby Remix by Anna-Marie McLemore and it was such a good read for me. I adored it and the characters and the relationships so much.
Love your videos so much! Thank you ❤
Hey, I really like the vlogs on your other channel! please dont stop making them 👉👈
A good show about catching scammers and figuring out how they did it is Inventing Anna. My parents LOVE that show
I read white nights in APRIL. And loved it 😊
I need to read Emily Wilde still! I got it for Christmas and have put it off for so long 🥹
I felt the exact same way about Powerless and feel so validated lol
I didn't know there was a book of Perfume. If you like ot so much, i recommend the movie. I still get a bit of goosebumps (in a bad way) years after
Omg!!...I love your videos soo much!! 💖✨
Hi! First time watching you 😊 I'm happy that we had similar thoughts on a couple of books here so I subscribed.😊 looking forward to watch your other content😊
I read Bride and The Familiar and based on your taste, added Perfume to my tbr.😊
A Dowry of Blood became a favourite of mine!!
The aesthetic✨✨
Little Thie es, Why We Swim & The Unmaking of June Farrow - loved These!
Leigh Bardugo is very good about writing “detached” characters. Either they don’t care about us or we don’t care about them. I felt the same, it took a couple of pages to care about Lucia!
If you like knowing a few things about a lot of stuff,I recommend the series A Very Short Introduction from Oxford press. They have hundreds of titles on a myriad of subjects.❤
Hi Leonie, i'm an older millenial and my favourite romantasy is "daughter of the fortest" by Juliet Marillier. This is an oldish book (straight outta 90s) but nontheless i think it's a good representative of the genre, we have all the juicy tropes but it all feels very "natual"... highly recommend it.
That audio book definitely sounds like a podcast haha. Like audiobooks are reading! But there is an art to writing a cohesive story that can be consumed via text and at a non-predetermined pace. Idk, it’s definitely a weird classification thing that doesn’t necessarily matter, but I still have an option! 😂
If you like cozy fantasies that still have some sort of stakes/plot, you should read Flowerheart! I just finished it, and it felt like reading a studio ghibli movie. It’s definitely not a 5 star read or anything, but it’s cozy and it’s very pretty!!
made it here 12 seconds after upload 🏃♀️ excited to watch this after work
I would agree with you about coming back home and having warm tea after a thunderstorm if today was not the 31st of May. 😞
This year we had no damn Spring!!
Your hand movements are hypnotising.
I'm sad you didnt love A dowry of blood it's my new favourite, I read it last month and am already planning on getting a vampire lady tattoo because of it!
Leoni, A Winter's Promise, that's it, I'm just here again to recommend this series, if anyone else think she should read it please back me up here!! 😅
I have the familiar and a dowery of blood on my TBR list. My favorite book from last month was vampire weekend by mike chen.
Very, very good, Leonie 😊
I miss rainy days. In my place it’s sunny winter. The rain season (summer) is over 😢
I started Emily Wilde but i got things going on and i haven’t picked it up yet.
I will try one more time. Sometimes i have a hard time going back to a book.
omg ur hair! short hair suit you sooo much💗
Much like you and romantasy, I've been struggling with YA recently and wondered if I'd just finally outgrown it (I'm 46...) but I started rereading The Hunger Games trilogy (for my podcast and also as a lead-in to finally reading the new one) - and it's still so good! (Phew!)
