In-house maraquero and occasional vocalist for Queen, Freddie Mercury takes the win! But my goodness should statue-form Angus Young audition as the next Bond Girl! 😂

Immediately looked for the Rory Gallagher statue and pleased to see it's there! I love the occasional Rory references on this channel. Justin has good taste
@auntagatha4517 yeah, that Rory statue is cool. I have some pics with it, and another with his actual Stratocaster. One of my favorite players, and a great person.
I saw his statue in Ballyshannon ( glorious part of Ireland btw ) just a few weeks ago. Ace! And was actually at the unveiling of Phil's statue with his mum, Scott Gorham et al in 2005. Ace!!!
Was Rory from Galway and lived in Cork or the other way round? I did some work in Eire a few years ago and witnessed an amusing debate in the office about this subject.
Eeeeeah! Justin! That statue of Bon is absolutely spot on - it’s in his home community of Kirriemuir in Angus, from whence he himself hailed. Famously, the pipes were used live, and he bloody loved them. It’s a solid 9, that.
Spot on indeed - he played the pipes on It's a long way to the top, and the statue captures Bon's pose in the famous music video of AC/DC playing on a flatbed truck through Melbourne perfectly! The annual Bonfest in Kirriemuir is well worth a visit and features a parade through town with It's a long way to the top being played on a flatbed truck.
Buddy H.‘s true impact is that he was one of of the first rock and roll singers who wrote his own material. Up until him, most singers were provided pre-written material by their A+R men. Brill Building type stuff. Buddy broke the mold.
Really like the BeeGees one. Fantastic detail, and it really looks like the brothers going for a leisurely stroll, and that you might just be able to bump in to them and have a chat.
The Michael Jackson one with Bubbles the Chimp is creepy AF to me. I love the Bee Gees one. The Phil Lynott one I really want to see in real life! That Rory Gallagher one is really amazing! Freddie or Rory are my favorites.Buddy Holly is very accurate.
They were here last October at the Astor Theatre, what a great show. Hope they'll be back soon, but I'd take my ear plugs next time - Marshall amps nearly tore my eardrums.
Think there was a 25ft Ozzy Osbourne inflatable statue displayed in Birmingham for the Patient Number 9 album party, but I think the biggest inflatable statue ever made is about 43ft tall. So, a 45ft tall Justin Hawkins stature erected in Lowestoft for the next The Darkness album party would be record breaking.
Oh my goodness, the Michael Jackson & Bubbles statue....are we sure they aren't just the real thing dunked in wax then painted?? That one is the worst 🤢 The Freddie one is wonderful! 🤩
It's a work of art by Jeff Koons, not just a statue trying to get a good likeness. "Three of the Michael Jackson and Bubbles sculpture were made. One was sold at Sotheby's on 15 May 2001, when it was auctioned off to the record price of 5.6 million dollars."
13:25 Paul McCartney's bass is the 1961 Hofner Violin bass that he bought in Germany for £30 equivalent... the one he is currently searching the whole world to find... with the help of Fender and anyone else who might know where to find it. (The teardrop shape you refer to would be the VOX MkIII which belonged initially to Brian Jones when playing as Elmo Lewis with early Stones... I've also seen Rod Stewart playing it when he borrowed it for a photo... possibly when they toured together in 1965... first gig Odeon Exeter)
The Bee Gees one is the best hands down! I love all their songs, and Robins voice was top notch and so incredibly moving. Michael Jackson/ Chris Cornel for the worst. I love that hat you’re wearing by the way. I want one 😊
The Michael and Bubbles sculpture is by Jeff Koons a well known sculptor - he's done a ton of kitschy work that's shown in museums and galleries worldwide.
Love your deciphering, Justin! That surely makes you worthy of your own statue in decades to come. Did not care for the Israel Elvis, although the Bowie one is just a mistake! Top marks for Amy, Freddy ( the clear winner), and Seattle Hendrix. p.s. I LOVE my black J.H. shirt!!
It's hilarious how you hid your face before showing the Michael Jackson statue. You started by saying "Ahhhh" Lol!!! I don't know how to rank this. All i know is that it made my day! Sending good vibes from the Philippines, thanks Justine! Awesome channel!
I never thought about Beethovens connection to Rock'n'Roll except for Chuck Berry mentioning him in his song.Dankeschön.😁👍🏻The Statue is standing in Bonn in Germany.
I might just visit cities to look for statues of famous rock musicians and singers from now on, take a photo and say, I was there! 🤩 Thank you, thank you and thank you. 🙏🏻❤🤗
If I remember correctly, Bon Scott plays the bagpipes (or is that a sackbutt?) in the video for "It's a Long Way to the Top (if You Want to Rock & Roll)...not sure if he actually played them on the album...but he definitely rocked them in the promos
Bon did play the bagpipes on that song, on the record High Voltage. It’s a bit unclear regarding the videos, as there are 4 versions, and I don’t know which one you mean, though Bon isn’t credited as playing them on the videos. The Rats of Tobruk Pipe band are credited as playing the bagpipes on the “official” video.
Bagpipes were learned by Bon Scott especially for the track "It's A Long Way To The Top If You Wanna Rock n Roll"... and played on the video on the back of the truck that toured around the city of Melbourne when they launched the record... also played by 3 other guys from the Rats Of Tobruk Pipe Band on the other 2 videos made for this track...
Great video Justin, thank you! I love the Freddy statue but was disappointed in the Chris Cornell one. I wouldn't have recognized it as him. The sculptor of John Lennon must have been the only person who had never seen John! The Michael Jackson and Bubbles statue was my worst. Very creepy and Monkeys are not pets!
Bons statue deserves a higher ranking. He played bagpipes on “It’s a long way to the top of you wanna rock n roll.” I think he was also in a bagpipe group as a kid. I’d give it at least an 8/10.
Would rate top three like this. Great video again mr. Hawkins 1. Bon Scott (I think its pretty accurate. Would like to see it live) 10/10 2. Beegees 9/10 3. Hendrix 9/10
Hi 👋 I wouldn't have thought it was an Elvis statue if you hadn't said it was. The statue looked more like a gold Spiderman. I like the Bee Gees , very life like and taken from the song Stayin Alive video.
Amy Winehouse: Not that bad. Angus Young: Ha ha ha, what is with that mouth? Bon Scott: Yeah, recognizable. Chris Cornell: I don't think I would have recognized him, but the clothes are very realistic. Elton John: recognizable. Elvis: This one is... not good! 😀 Jimi Hendrix: I liked this one. Michael Jackson: Well this is Jeff Koons, so... it's what to be expected 🙂 Second Michael Jackson: Bigger than real life, but not big enough if you're gonna do big. Bad one 🙂 Bee Gees: Looks like they just froze them in the middle of a step, a la Star Wars, pretty cool! Phil Lynott: Yeah, not bad! 🙂 David Bowie: Brilliant! 🙂 Rory Gallagher: It's okay. Bob Marley: This is Folk Art, very nice. Second Jimi Hendrix: This one is nice, too. Love the knitted add ons. Stevie Ray Vaughan: This statue looks kinda scary. Monochromatic it looks like a pest doctor. Third Michael Jackson: Nope! John Lennon: Yeah, I would have not known... Paul McCartney: Wonky, wrong proportions. You can tell it's him, but, not a good one. Freddie Mercury: Awesome! So well made and captured his nature well, too. My favorite so far. Buddy Holly: Meh... Beethoven: Is spot on! 🙂
I think bronze sculptures are creepy as f**k. Worst sculpture is the Angus Young. Best is The Bee Gees and the Hendrix one, sans yarn bomber leg warmers, although those leg warmers are fantastic! I do love the Beethoven sculpture. Looks like him. The Stevie Ray Vaughan one looks like a pilgrim!
Delighted that Rory was included. I think the worst has to be the Jacko with Superman’s face , or possibly McCartney, although it’s a Hofner bass, not a Vox Teardrop, which is a completely different shape.
The Best: Freddie's Statue is definitely out of scale (more than 100/10!)🤩 it depicts so brilliantly how powerful and magnificent IS Freddie (because legends never die🥹) Concerning the worst...It's so hard choosing only one, but Angus gets lots of points (A Fender??? C'mon!!!)🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Dear Mister Hawkins, fellow Guitar Men here, long story short, im stuck in 2”55 of Heart Explodes Solo. The song means a lot to me, the lyrics approach, the guitar parts, it really helps me lay the blues. Dan is doing a double string bend (you probably record the studio version, I don’t know, get off my back). I just need those two notes, the tabs online are no good and the videos of you guys playing it live are truly in the darkness. Love your band, love this show, and I respect your journey as rocky as it was. Now please hand me those two notes.
I must have read your email way too early in the morning because I wasn't sure what you were asking. LOL Now I get it! I think the gold Jetson's-style Elvis one is the worst. Then the gold and white MJ with Bubbles a close tie. The best for me was a tie between Freddie and Stevie Ray. They look the most like themselves.
There is a great statue of Beethoven in Vienna (or Neil Diamond from the cover of Hot August Night... I wasnt quite sure) but I stopped there and had a ciggie and a chat, and told him I loved his 9th Symphony (or Cracklin' Rosie ... just in case).
I think the Lynott and Hendrix really captured their images best. The Rory statue is actually very good, too. I was able to get a pic with the Phil and Rory statues last time I was over there. Nice tributes to amazing musicians. I thought Angus was a weird attempt at Rory Gallagher, but with a hat! John Lennon looks like Duane Allman to me.
The shop mannequin Jackson, Angus escaping from a burns unit and Macca's bedy chest-arms and penguin inside leg are impressively bad. Rory and Freddy are so well observed and capture 'them'.
"Angus with his Famous StratG'caster comes to life with striking similarities right down to his passion of Hendrix and signature series Single coil Pickups" Minister For Tourism.
The worst? Tough to choose, but I'm going with the John Lennon. I've seen the Hendrix in Seattle, and the Lynott in Dublin and they are both really well done! And if you ever go to Roger Taylor's house, apparently he's got a 30ft or so statue of Freddie in his back garden?
We have a pretty decent Elvis statue here, in James Burtons hometown of Shreveport. But Elvis has big ties here, also. His appearance on the Louisiana Hayride is said to have kicked off his career.
This rating scale encapsulates your attitude to everything musical. You find it so hard to say anything negative. Worst is a 4. Loving the 14/10! Best Freddie, worst the yellow Michael Jackson.
Hey Justin, was just wondering if you were going to do anything on Bernie Marsden? As you probably know he passed recently and was one of the original guitarists of Whitesnake and on some of the best whitesnake albums. Just wondering. Have a good week ahead 🤘
My vote for the best is a tie between Amy Winehouse and Freddie Mercury. The John Lennon statue at 13:00 looks nothing like Lennon, but is a fabulous likeness of 70's Roy Harper.
I think the Buddy Holly statue was better than whatever you gave it, although I haven't seen it up close. Really enjoyed your fun video! Obviously, Michael and the Chimp belong in their own category, although what that category would be called, I have NO idea!
Nice video Justin..of course for me a big fan of Freddie and Queen, going to Montreux and being able to hold on to Freddie's leg is a dream come true....the statue is really beautiful, the best...
Hey Justin, I like the Rory Gallagher statue, with the first Hendrix a close second. As for the awful John Lennon statue, I would recommend in its place the one in Havana, Cuba, where Lennon is seated on a park bench with his iconic glasses on (note: there's an attendant always near by that is paid to ensure that the removable glasses don't get stolen!). Many people come from around the world to sit for a pic with Mr. Lennon. Peace!!
That John Lennon statute look more like Derek Smalls from the mock rock band Spinal Tap. It could also pass for the late Lenny from Motörhead, if he’d died his hair blonde. Regardless, I would never had though it was Lennon so I’ll pick it as the worst.
"Olive!!" or " I'll get you for this Angus" The Inspector... Imagine Angus driving the Bus in his outfit!!! You got me laughing my ass off at that imagery!!
The Jacko and Bubbles one is done by Jeff Koons a pretty big artist who did a ton of these creepy af sculptures. I remember seeing his stuff in the 80’s and thought it was all hideous and couldn’t believe he was actually celebrated in the art world. His balloon animals are neat but not for the damn price but it’s all money laundering anyway.
I don’t know…. Both of those Michael Jackson statues were equal parts horrendous & terrifying. Either way… Great laughs watching this video. Nice departure from the music reaction videos. I say… More of this kinda thing please, Sir.
Worst would deffo be Jacko and Bubbles For part deux? Get the Beatles four lads walking statue(s) in Liverpool and the Lennon in Cuba, then we can talk high scores.
We have a few here in Shreveport, LA. James Burton. Elvis And Huddie Ledbetter aka Lead Belly. Our look good, IMO. They look like James and Elvis and Lead Belly. Lead Belly is even playing his 12 string Stella guitar.
The John Lennon one is the worst because it looks nothing like him. It does look a bit like your brother Dan, when he appeared on your podcast though. A close runner up is the MJ & Bubbles - it's not something I'd want to see in real life. Of course the best is Freddy Mercury - but the BeeGees is a close second.
I drew Rory for my dad's 70th birthday last year he loved him and looked just like him in his youth. Lucky it turned out a bit better than the statue 😅
I like the bagpipes. Bon played them since he was a kid and I think it had a lot to do with those big lungs of his. He was amazing. That face, though...nope, nope, and nope.
The Bon Scott statue in Kirriemuir, where he was born, has bagpipes because he actually did play them as can be seen in the It's a Long Way To The Top video.
There's a wonderfully silly statue of Richard O'Brien in his costume as Riff Raff at the end of the Rocky Horror Picture Show in Christchurch New Zealand.
The reason i would remove half a point from the mercury statue would be that i once went Montreux skatepark and thought i should look for it at the promenade. I skated with my board up and down like 4 times until i saw it... It's just totally on the wrong side of the path ^^
Based on sculpting features/material - Worst-Michael Jackson and Bubbles. Best - Bee Gees, really impressive features. Favorite - Freddie Mercury of course...because IT"S FREDDIE MERCURY! : )
Cast your vote for the best and worst one!
Worst Rock Star Tattoos please. Thanks I will see Phil Lynott one day.
In-house maraquero and occasional vocalist for Queen, Freddie Mercury takes the win! But my goodness should statue-form Angus Young audition as the next Bond Girl! 😂
The Mercury statue is the most accurate of those depicted here 👍
My vote for the best goes to the 3 statues we have in Shreveport, LA that you missed. Elvis, Tele master James Burton, and Lead Belly.
Now I've got an earworm from the Jam's Carnation...even the Mojo Filters did a better Version, Liams vocs innit are a bitter sweet symphony

Freddie. What a man. Even as a bronze statue has more life and realism than shite in the charts today.

Also, as I am part-Irish, I extend extra kudos to Justin for pronouncing his surname correctly :o)

Yes the Phil Lynott and Rory statues are great...I have visited both on many occasions.
Omg this is hilarious. Want to one-up this idea?! You need to do this with wax figures! Those are creepily funny!! They’re almost always horrible!!
White and gold Jackson one is terrifying
So is the statue !
Please consider Perth, Western Australia for this world tour. We have a statue of a cactus that would score at least 5/10 on a cactus statue rating
They were here last October at the Astor Theatre, what a great show. Hope they'll be back soon, but I'd take my ear plugs next time - Marshall amps nearly tore my eardrums.

SRV statue looks like the Quaker Oats man.
as a sculptor I especially enjoyed this episode :) 'too cakey' haha
Yeah, the Bob Marley one does look like cake.
A cake with a special ingredient.
The angle makes him appear to resemble a pirate.
Jesus, the angus statue is shockingly bad, and the Michael Jackson and bubbles one is just terrifying, I won't sleep a wink tonight after seeing it.
The Bee Gees one is the best hands down!
I love all their songs, and Robins voice was top notch and so incredibly moving.
Michael Jackson/ Chris Cornel for the worst.

Lennon. Peace!!
Love the Rory Gallagher statue in Ballyshannon. See it every year at Rory Fest.
Thanks for the morning laugh. Great episode that I almost skipped over 😅. Worst is your cakey one. Imho
That John Lennon statute look more like Derek Smalls from the mock rock band Spinal Tap. It could also pass for the late Lenny from Motörhead, if he’d died his hair blonde. Regardless, I would never had though it was Lennon so I’ll pick it as the worst.
3:40 The statue of Bon at the Fremantle Fishing Boat Harbour in Western Australia is really good.
I thought the Angus statue looked more like Jack out of "On the Buses". I know that you'll know who Jack is, Justin :)
"Olive!!" or " I'll get you for this Angus" The Inspector...
Imagine Angus driving the Bus in his outfit!!! You got me laughing my ass off at that imagery!!
@@harrisbeatsfrankou6304 Lol. 🤔 I wonder what the odds are of AC/DC making it a MV ;)
The Lennon statue looks more like Duane Allman to me
Bon's statue is I Kirriemuir, where he's from in fact. He did use the bagpipes, as a pose I think, in an early video.
The Bowie one was ….something.
Civic art is misjudged and depressing at the best of times. Rendering rock and pop stars in bronze? Doubly so.
I don’t know…. Both of those Michael Jackson statues were equal parts horrendous & terrifying. Either way… Great laughs watching this video. Nice departure from the music reaction videos. I say… More of this kinda thing please, Sir.
I liked the first Hendrix statue. You should do a video rating wax figures.
Bon Scott is known for playing the bagpipes in "It's a Long Way To The Top"
Worst would deffo be Jacko and Bubbles
For part deux? Get the Beatles four lads walking statue(s) in Liverpool and the Lennon in Cuba, then we can talk high scores.
ok now you have to do the madame tussauds wax figures of people :D, some shockers
We have a few here in Shreveport, LA. James Burton. Elvis And Huddie Ledbetter aka Lead Belly.
Our look good, IMO. They look like James and Elvis and Lead Belly. Lead Belly is even playing his 12 string Stella guitar.
I love this already
Much love to you Mr Hawkins ❤
“the makers of the gibson sg” had me giggling a bit too much 😂
The John Lennon one is the worst because it looks nothing like him.
The Elvis one in Israel looks more like the Joker from Batman.
“You’ve got to get your mouth right on the capsule for it to be effective”…
That’s what she said…
There's a wonderfully silly statue of Richard O'Brien in his costume as Riff Raff at the end of the Rocky Horror Picture Show in Christchurch New Zealand.
Lennon statue looks more like healthy Charles Manson than casual Jesus to me - it’s got my vote for worst
The reason i would remove half a point from the mercury statue would be that i once went Montreux skatepark and thought i should look for it at the promenade. I skated with my board up and down like 4 times until i saw it... It's just totally on the wrong side of the path ^^
Re : Paul McCartney. He was famous for playing a Hofner violin bass.
The Michael Jackson with Bubbles is the worst because it’s a Jeff Koons work. Anything by that dhead is the worst 🤮
Did he do the Bowie one, too? It’s equally revolting, like a caricature.
Based on sculpting features/material - Worst-Michael Jackson and Bubbles. Best - Bee Gees, really impressive features. Favorite - Freddie Mercury of course...because IT"S FREDDIE MERCURY! : )
