Fallout 4 Settlement Base Building - Lets build! a money generating business, an endless supply of caps and healing items, with no cheating or exploiting.
Purified water sells for a maximum of 20 caps each, and with this we can produce hundreds of purified waters per day, by simply using Taffington Boathouse or a settlement with a decent water supply.
Obviously, the bigger the water supply the more purifiers you can build, however today were building a simple settlement/ business with a good perimeter and defenses so we never have to worry about caps again, enjoy!
Please don't forget to leave a like, if you like the video :)
This is part #2 of my "Lets Build" series:

In the 90’s, my father watched Bob Vila to learn how to do projects he’d never undertake. In the 2020’s, I’m watching UA-cam videos on how to do post apocalyptic community building in video games I’ll never undertake. Kind of beautiful really. Lovely video.
Lol this is funny
You'll either die or become a minuteman.
The way things are going right now you might need the post apocalyptic community building one day…
So is the cycle of life
Lol Bob Vila man that's a flashback. Haven't heard that guys name in years!
you must need a small loan of a million steel for this one
You can clearly see he has 726 steel at 1:36 you can get more than that just from sanctuary alone from scraping houses, There's also Supply Lines & Scraper perk. 726 steel hardly needs a million. Also 2 points in barter perk makes everything cheaper like shipments from merchants.
Somebody missed the pun.
The UA-cam Phantom Official and concreat
The UA-cam Phantom Official You gotta spend money to make money.
The UA-cam Phantom Official lmfao
Water is a reasonable saleable product in the Commonwealth BUT, it has some downsides. It sells for very little, it's heavy to cart around, the initial outlay on purifiers and power sources is expensive in caps and material and if you are playing survival, you're going to be drinking a fair bit of that water to survive. Well, until you are putting in multiple industrial units at suitable settlements or your rad resistant perk is earned.
So what's better? Drug dealing and manufacturing. Put loads of Brahmin troughs out at all your settlements. Buy Brahmin off of Kelly. Brahmin troughs make fertiliser, fertiliser plus plastic makes jet. You can make around 4-5000 caps worth of Jet every three days. You can walk around with 8000 caps worth of jet in your pocket and not really damage your weight capacity. And manufacturing Jet earns you experience. Making water does not, bar what you get building the purifiers and generators.
Holy shit, thank you, you just helped me so much. I totally forgot troughs makes fertilizer.
Simon Watts THANKS MAN!
Where do I find Kelly tho? I forgot
Big Bird Near the Boston food depot, south of Diamond city, in the woods by the road.
You wont like My name Well, the other way is to sell water, which is pretty immoral.
Lol, 4 purifiers. I have about 35 in the river in sanctuary.
ya, spectual island and sanctuary are probably the best suited for that stuff. the rest...not so much
+Jordan Heeren eh the castle is decent
Wh0 Cares any ideas on an effective way to do internal defense of spectual island...having a hard time getting good placing fo rmy turrents
Don't see the point in that many, even with the income you can get.
same thoughts lol
this is fucking genious. Ive been fighting like hell to figure out wtf to do with that stupid house.
Archangel Lunas
Same
Archangel Lunas I just got the game and just found this house. i didn't know it could be used as a settlement.
Mathew Godfrey there are a TON of places you can use as settlements. there are a couple places that are just raider bases in the middle of nowhere, and you can use it as a small settlement too. it's extremely small, but you can turn it into a small military/security outpost easily. I think it's east (right) of sanctuary, over towards the radio station and a bit south. I'll jump on tonight and try to find some better coordinates of it for you. I made it a small resupply outpost. doesn't really serve a purpose other than making it so I don't have to go all the way back to sanctuary for stuff.
Archangel Lunas but to how attract settlers
Miracle Gamer you just build food and defenses and beds. They come on their own. The more resources you have, the more that come.
I CAN'T HEAR YOU OVER THE RAVE IN THE BACKGROUND. WHAT DID YOU SAAAAY
Trying to learn cant help but dance
The scaffolding from the contraption dlc makes nice guard towers. Realistic looking and easily modifiable.
Every Australian guy should use the word "crikey" at least once in each video they make. That is all.
techtronicman1 you makin' fun of the way people talk, eh?
nick100mil
No, just pointing out that, thanks to Steve Irwin, the word "crikey" is something you half expect to hear from an Australian guy. I think it should be more common among Australian speakers.
No way, eh? I like Canadians.
bonza idea Bruce.
techtronicman1 and a quick PSA on the danger of drop bears, beware the drop bears
The background music is pretty annoying :/
+bo welter i like it
+bo welter Yeah, I can't stand the annoying dubstep intros.
+bo welter yeah its hard to concentrate. Better to just have it fade away when commentary begins.
And what will happen to the voice if you do that Einstein?
bo welter stop trying to start shit noone likes a smartass. He was stating his opinion
Just started playing fallout 4, and cant believe how big and great this game is. A true masterpiece.
I don't know about masterpiece bro, but with mods it's almost there.
@@cashewlater5317 I’m a new player too and so far I don’t see the hate. It’s been perfect for me honestly
@@ellisberry8747 It's a great game, but it's a bad fallout game. "Masterpiece" suits fallout NV much better. It's on the older side, but the design and narrative are top-notch. If you want to understand why without having to play the game there's a shit load of videos talking about it.
@@infinityseven5924 new vegas without mods is a crapfest.
@@kaws8778 Imo FNV is actually easier to play without mods than FO4. For me to even play FO4 I feel like I need 10 mods at minimum and I've never played new vegas with more than 10 mods. The 4gb patch and unofficial patch are pretty necessary, but beyond that there isn't much.
Your Fallout 4 Build series is the best of all I've seen. Concise and to the point technique. Smooth camera. No jerky chicken head shots. No distracting changes during demo. No babbling about how cool it is, or intense storyline saga. Just By far, superior to any Fo4 build tutorials out there!
Thank you for the suggestions and help. I was able to put concrete wallls, and make a whole walk walkway inside using barn stuff. I also used smaller grates flooring from the barn section to add in more purifiers.
Taffington Boathouse in my opinion is not really an ideal place to build massive purifiers mainly because the settlement is too small. Sanctuary Hill is a good place to mass purifiers easily. Also you can max out the water production to 999. That will give you around 757-777 waters give or take. With that amount of water you can easily buy out couple of merchants easily.
sanctuary hills is good, this settlement isn't for mass purification, spectacle island or egret tours marina would be fit for mass water production, this is just an example of building extra income from your settlements..
Nordhagen Beach too
Nordhagen Beach is where ive always done it
You say not for 'mass purification,' however your title and point of the video is 'Infinite caps...'
yea but dalton farm always have monster spawn right inside the settlement. I have to wall the settlements in 4 sections just to contain the creatures
Thanks for taking the time to do these. I never really copy your stuff, however your a great source of inspiration and I always learn a thing or two. Keep it up!
+Shawn Johnson That's awesome man, all of these builds are for general ideas and inspiration, that's also the reason why i try to keep them as basic as i can and barely decorated, its should help people visualize their own ideas or make it easier to add their own tweaks, or just use the base design, glad to see people using them and using them for inspiration :)
Great video - gave me lots of ideas, not just the setting up a business part, but the process of making tidier power systems and guard towers. Thanks!
I love how simple the designs are and how great they look. subscribed. good job man.
very detailed, very organized. Loved it, just subbed
I thought I was being generous building these guys a few beds.... then along comes this powerhouse building a fortress. lol
I'm late to the game, only started 3 weeks ago but I've got 150 hours in and loving every minute.
it has some of the best replay value of whole series, I think I have 1000+ hrs in it.
Your narration is really good, you detail every step you take so the audience have a clear understanding. well done
I salute you for your amazing building skills and dedication to this base.
entire video: fortify settlment, build mass water purification plant, sell water.
Thank you so much for summing it up so I don't have to see all the way through the boring building crap... Obviously we already know how that works lol :P
Dont forget about the "Erm ands"
except no water was sold
@@TheVergile yeah...like to who the hell it is sold? stores so far in the game where i am are pretty shit store with 250c of found i have to buy ammo so they can have some cap
Love your creativity with vanilla Fallout. Subbed.
+Scott Miracle Thanks man!
Loved the video. That build mechanic can be difficult and you made it look so smooth. 👍
That Base Rocks, man, opened up my Imagination so much more by this vid, thanks

I came to the comments section specifically to write that. Haha. Your channel is sure to go far, TLK
+Curt Is Chillin thanks guys!
+TLK GAMING Id love to see your take on a jet making factory. Maybe use the wasteland workshop to get brahmin in mass, for fertilizer.
Outstanding video! There are a ton of ideas that I can't wait to try.
Dang man this is ridiculously detailed. Love it. Subbed.
I wish I had your building skills.
just keep building dude, the more you build, the better you get..
God mode gives you unlimited building suplies and to activate it you press the button over TAB in game and type in TGM, Do the same thing to exit it.
fila wila how do i do that
can you get in god mode on console?
David Ivey yes you need cheat menu mod
You make building so easy - wish I could build that fast & that great 💕
you are REALLY good at this, obviously takes a ton of practice. very entertaining video
I think we need to appreciate the spatial understanding this guy has to snap on the fence with the flooring that was nearly pixel perfect with the dock of the house.
Huge, gigantic TL;DR, make water purifiers..
I thought i was the only one who makes a room for the generators
You have made my day! This helps me heaps! Your talent for building makes others look like noobs this is a excellent idea 💡 for this settlement I knew it was based here for something lol you also have given me some unbelievable ideas of my own now top vid bro keep up the great work👍
Very well done video. Great tutorial and editing :)
I have 12 settlers at my Boathouse + the guy that's there when you find the place. It's surrounded by turrets around the perimeter. I've never set any walls up but there's 125 defense. I have 4 large purifiers, 3 in the water next to the house & 1 inside the "boat garage". My boathouse has never once been attacked & I'm level 128. I've given all my settlers snubnose .44's which I've made via a manufacturing plant & also given them 50 ammo each, also made via manufacturing plant (manufacturing I've set up at Abernathy coz it's so huge!) All settlers also have ballistic weave outfits. So all in all, as long as the defense is good enough & the settlers are capable of defending themselves, the chances of being attacked are extremely low. If you are attcked, get there asap & immediately take the foods, waters and caps out of the workshop so they don't get stolen.
PS4 Here and I LOVE your designs brother they are really good. I've been working on the Drive In Theater myself. made a huge settlement there but only able to put in Two water purifiers there. but I have 6 different high end shops so I make pretty good caps between everything. but thinking about mimicking this design slightly. thanks for the design ideas!
thanks man, yeah dont be afraid to put extra purifiers in, i have even more ground purifiers and an extra one in the shed, probably generating around 400 water at this settlement alone..
+TLK GAMING awesome I'll try it later, thank you
PS4 aww no mods? :(
where do you put enough food there for a huge settlement????? also i have 3-4 purifiers in that hole didnt know about the moving it to land glitch until today also kinda feel like that is too much of a cheat FOR ME but i might try it. just wish i could get serious water at all my settlements.
+John Smith you can , just run the ground water purifiers
This is way too clever! Thanks so much for sharing!!!
Excellent video. Very informative and efficiently done. Thanx much! I learned a lot.
just some sugestions for the ones that does not want to waste space on energy generators, use carpets to stack them in each other, also you can do the same with water purifiers and move them to the ground, so you can use other places like sanctuary , or any other that has a lil water on it
Thank you, I loved this build and pretty much copied it but just with a few minor changes. It really wouldn't let me put that damn generator shed in that spot so I built a warehouse there instead and it ended up looking pretty good anyway.
thats awesome dude, dw i had a lot of trouble getting that shed in there lol
Awesome job on the settlement. Thanks for sharing!
Neat build. Thanks for the cool layout. I like it!!
This is awesome!!!!! SO Impressed!!
thank you 😊
TLK GAMING How do you get the pot plants as decorations.. is it a mod?
there unlocked by finding a particular picket fence mag, i think its the one in the waterplant, im not 100% sure, i would suggest checking out a guide ☺
I've made Taffington Boathouse look a little like this. The only differences are that the walls are made out of concrete and the generators in the electrical shed were replaced with the new Fusion Generator added in Wasteland Workshop. Still, it looks mostly the same. Good job :)
Yeah that sounds like a wicked cool look, I'm going to have to try this as well.
Actually lad best place with the fusion gennys is dalton farm far more water than the ol tafington
Playing Survival Taffington Boat house is a little more convenient early game.
Awesome build! I even learned a few building tricks as well. Great video! :)
+Sunbro Ryno Thanks man, glad to help out :)
Love the design. I Only have with the game originally came with so it’s nice to see someone with a design that has all the pieces that I can put together as well
I once fixed that roof took me 3 days but it finally looked like a house
Seth Gipson here, Ive marked another settlement that needs your help on your map. 🖕🤪🖕
@@zackhiggins5135 zack?
@@StirlingSilver depends. Whos this?
How? I've tried and finally gave up because there are much more interesting things to do than swear at my TV and give myself a headache
This is fucking smart.
I just decided to settle in this boathouse 3 days ago after starting a new character (weapon x melee/sneak/sniper special forces build) and only put 3turrets up and fixed the roof. This is a brilliant idea and will try! Thanks for idea!
bro I couldn't build nothing that looked satisfying. you really helped me get an idea. thanks man. you got real useful ideas and tips
+Stitchly Lunatic no problem man, glad to help out.
Great design. I personally just use the Castle and use the back. Putting 10 Industrial back there gets you around crazy money back.
I will say if you're trying to make tons of money doing this don't use the General Store. Gun Store gives out the most caps and the Clinic gives out the second highest. Both are about the same.
thanks for the tip
the island nets me 1200 purified waters a 'day', this place adds 370 on the lower mid end end of my empire, however in the grand scheme of my character's Commonwealth Water Company, I generate somewhere between 4500-6000 purified water. Water has become my new currency. Every cog in the wheel. Every purifier counts.
One of my favorite setlements early game, i never had the idea to make mass water production here but it looks very good, it's small but easyly buildable and defendable without cheat. I will do that on my new survival game in F4VR, thanks ;D
Your abilities with the settlements is astounding. Yes, yes, infinite caps (though I find it impossible NOT to have infinite just by vendoring all the armor/weapons I get from walking around) but it's the way you actually get things to snap into place and the vision to see "this should go here" that impresses me with the videos.
I also had no idea the water purifiers did anything other than make the settlers happy to have water lol
+Dinishte Thank you, yeah accumulative loot on the road will generally return some good coin, but when it comes to building settlements, materials can exhaust your caps quite easily lol, i make over $40,000 from a single run through my settlements using this method, and because i make more than i can sell, there also useful as another form of currency, and you would be surprised how many people didn't know that purifiers actually purify water for you haha, thanks for the feedback dude, cheers!
Awesome idea, setting up and video explaining/showing! Thanks!!!!
+Tim whaley no problem man, anytime :)
I use Kingsport lighthouse and run it with robots to farm vegetables and also the new water pump that you can use on dirt plus if you place heaps of storage and get a scrapper station or two the storages occasionally refill with more junk and therefore no people and no food consumption plus an unlimited source of adhesives and money to pay for shipments and parts to build even more
shit music would have been fine with just his voice
i don't know why he wouldn't try to keep his voice energetic. Most younger youtuber always say they are 'sick' and try to sound like they don't care and cool.
ffs
TRIGUND well its better than the anoying bubbly electronic music
Saw this and am totally implementing into my settlement. Great job
Very nice and man do you build fast. Thanks for sharing.
I can't connect the the walls there is a dead cow in the way
luis llanes you can move it by pointing your cross-hairs at it and hold X to move it
Same, fucking bullshit ass building mechanic, and you can't move it "item to heavy to move"
luis llanes
It'll de-spawn eventually. Just do what you can an when you can't build anything else because of the Brahmin, go do some quests or something for an in-game week. It should be gone by then.
Just get a mod that removes dead bodies
I was trying to push it and it killed me
funk man that's some real good designing
Great stuff. Thanks for all the tips.
I like how he says, fresh water around. I Wouldn't want to drink that water. Good video dude. Gave me some inspiration 👏🏻👏🏻
Great vid, I'm definitely going to try this! Does the money generated by your stores automatically go into your inventory or do you have to do something to access it first?
Heatpod Music it goes into the workbench of the settlement the stall is placed at, and isn't accessible from any other. So you leave the settlers to it while you kill raiders and explore, come back and check your workbench and have caps waiting
Brilliant, thanks for that 😊
MuwukiFTW Kill raiders? Only raiders? RASICT
You have to sell things to the settlers to claim the caps.
Heatpod Music it goes into ur werkshop ovr tim
Are you using build everywhere? Because it never worked for me
I know this comment is a bit late but you just need to redownload the mod everytime you launch the game, works for me everytime
@@restitvtor439 Better late than never. I tried that tactic, and it works now. Thank you.
This is pretty cool. Definitely gonna build this, but use a fusion generator lol. I never thought of selling water like this. Cool video!!
Damn dude, nice place and great explaining, keep it up!

Build a business? Or watch some guy remodel a settlement? Building tips are alright, but not what the title suggests.
panedrop I was going to right this to. Way too much aesthetics talk for a video on cap production.
That's cool man, I just thought it wasn't an accurate title for an otherwise good video.
Scott Stewart *write
panedrop ua-cam.com/video/T15xDzDF3BI/v-deo.html
How is it not accurate? He build a water purifying business. Exactly what the title claims. Create product which has demand, sells it to the one's in need, makes money out of it, therefore; business.
i know this video is 5 years old but i've only just come across it and it gave me some fun ideas so, nice work and thanks!
Good to see a fellow Aussie is making a popular/helpful video
And I'm going try my best to copy this but I'm doing it with nuca world so the guards will be raiders and the merchants and farmers will be settlers and I'm also going to try to use concrete walls and the barn for the shedding
Great vid definitely a like and subscribe
I used suspended boxcars and floorings on the water to make something like a floating city. Snapped balconies and walls to boxcars to make them lived in and railings so nobody would fall. Unfortunately it ate all of my build size and I am stuck with great idea with no means of implementing it...
If you get some cheap weapons and drop them, then go into build mode and store them in the workshop, it increases the build size. Don't go overboard because it could make your game take ages to load if you do it too much in every settlement, but I mostly use that method for the Slog and Starlight Drive in.
Charizarzar Yeah, I know of that, but this is "no exploit survival playthrough". I will only use what game allows me to~
If you're playing on PC, look for DDProductions Infinite Settlement Budget mod. Don't know if it ever made it's way to Bethesda's mod portal, but it's on the Nexus. That mod is essential for anyone who is looking to do any sort of decent settlement building. I wouldn't be surprised if the limits that Bethesda set for the Settlement Budget were part of the Lowest Common Denominator mentality that Developers have to have when designing a game for console.
SB Gaming
Yeah, can't use mods on Survival. Turns off achievements. I want to get those first~
The solution then is f4se and the mod that re-enables achievements.
It's not survival mode that disables achievements, it affected any modded game regardless of the difficulty setting as of the 1.5 patch that added the Survival mode.
It is only because Microsoft (and Sony) disapprove of open modding and being able to get achievements that they were even disabled across all platforms if using mods in the first place.
There's just too many convenience and Quality of Life mods out there for me to ever want to go without just to get achievements.
There is a dead cow at mine and I can't move it
great idea i’ve done the water “store” build on a few but never the taffington settlement. i made a multi level power and water warehouse at sanctuary but i’d like to add some more to make it profitable. cheers thanks for the idea.
Nice build. Thanks for the video.

Tristan game-o-bot not a real Aussie unless you’re wresting crocs during relaxation time.
watching these because I'm 200 hours into fallout 4 and haven't built anything is there a trick to putting doors inside I notice you can't have a wood door frame with roofs around it
+dylloop wow, you must have finished every single quest lol, yeh door frames are a real pain man! the trick is to build your structure on top of a wooden floor base, that way you can take a floor out to put a door frame in, as for attaching a roof to a door frame, it can only be done if its attached to the inside of the door frame, alternatively you could place floors on top where you want the roofs and then place the roofs on top of the floors, they wont snap and lining them up will get quite tedious, hopefully bethesda will sort these issues out soon.
+TLK GAMING thanks for the response will try that yeah I am on third I'm gonna call it permanent olaythrough because it's the one I'll be sticking with I just wanted to experience all the faction quests and had fun with the game.
+TLK GAMING also, there's another doorway in the junk fence section under structures, if you use the one without the barbed wire you can make them go inside way easier, they don't snap to anything, but it's still easy to line them up
Thanks for postin this... It's pretty cool
You're like the Bob Ross of Fallout 4 Construction.
Great Video. Thanks!
How? Just, how?
You keep saying "resourceful" that word doesn't mean what you think it means. You are looking for "resource intensive"
Im going to build this later! Liked and subbed!
Very good video, one of the coolest build i have seen on fallout 4
how do you have so much material to waste on those teeny tiny cracks that mean nothing ????? you must also be an perfectionist
John Smith he's on god mode or somthing. He's not using any resources anyways
Castle Road Official he has a lot of the shit already built so it's just coming out of his inventory. But at 5:50 you can clearly see his wood and steel going down.
o this cracks annoy me too, i dont have a lot of resources yet tho. Need to find stuff for the purifiers and generators now
Do you think fallout should add multiplayer? You could show off bases, build massive forts, and fight to the death!!
Sky Smashers yes!
Sky Smashers I would prefer co-op, people wanted multiplayer for skyrim and they made the abomination of elder scrolls online
welp, you might be getting just that with Fallout 76. We'll find out in a few days at E3
Coop max four people is as far as im willing to go.
r u a dev
Nice build. Very helpful. Thanks!
I usually role-play this game - set up guard towers, farms, water (just enough for the settlement) and let them live in peace. I console caps if I need them but rarely do. This is a cool concept to add in, not for the income but I feel it would be a cool addition to it.
I might use a Place Everywhere mod to have power stations throughout the Commonwealth feeding settlements, and purification plants too. Cool video!
People like you bother me.
You spend a large amount of time on aesthetics for some stuff, then cheap out for other stuff.
I'm twitchin here. lol
