I might be dating myself here- but I have that same Chess Life magazine that was on your thumbnail. Crazy to watch Naka grow up and do big things. I also remember playing the Super Nationals tournament a long time ago- Hikaru was real little and he and his brother were playing. One of them lost a game, and I remember after the round, walking outside the playing hall and their mother was scolding them. I remember thinking ‘no wonder they play so well, strict parents’
It did seem like you met and played a ton of people from your prior stories. But this confirmed my guess, lol! Also a pretty neat game of attacking tactics how everything comboed with each other smoothly!
Adult improvers are still a thing though, no? I guess it’s just that one does need to sacrifice a lot to improve and that’s true even when one have talent from a young age.
@@josueramirez7247 sorta but also not really. There are sooo many adult improvers (me being among them) putting in all the (if not more) time and effort that the young players put in. You can meet these depressed 1400-2050's all over the world and at most tournaments. It's possible to improve to a point, but that diminishes with age.
@josueramirez7247 adult improvers above club level kinda arent a thing. Even people between 1500-2000 uscf actively getting better are kinda anomalies
When you tried Marmite, how much did you use? Lots of people use way, way too much. You want about half a teaspoon for a whole slice of toast. If you tried it that way and still don't like it, fair enough.

chess is a microcosm of society ,people drop out and others are the level of fame.
Ben lectured Chuck Norris, but Ben's wit turned into physical force during lectures.

That ChessLife cover with Hikaru as a young kid is so cute! Looks like a goofy kid - and look at him now!

Ben Finegold is famous for knowing Hikaru Nakamura.
ben finegold try not to gossip about hikaru's personal life, challenge level impossible
Urgh, giving people marmite is banned under the Geneva convention. No one deserves that kind of abuse.
