Insanely fast one handed single stroke roll on the drums - Ramon Montagner and Riccardo Merlini

  • I would absolutely love to be able to play single strokes with one hand as fast as Ramon Montagner and Riccardo Merlini do in the videos I included at the beginning. That's the journey I'm on right now and I'd love for you to come along!
    It's all about the push pull motion, but one important thing to remember is that you have to pay the price at slow tempos in order to move up to faster tempos and see results. In other words, hang out around 60 bpm for a month if needed. Just make sure that you feel in control before moving on.

    Those people that call it a trick or a gimmick are haters. 99 percent of chops licks fills are single strokes and double strokes... There is no gimmick about doing 32nd notes with one hand and the other hand doing something completely different

    I've gotten back into working on this again. I agree you have to work this slow with a metronome as you are doing. Another idea to keep the left hand the same is to practice both hands at the same time. Seems to "encourage" or train your left hand so that it's not as awkward.

    Cool video, but one thing; Montagner is using "Push Pull" and Merlini's technique is totally different, he's using his own "quiver technique". Both are incredibly impressive but they are using different techniques.

    Great lesson.
    Any chance of doing a video but for german grip aswell?
    I think the second hit of the stick (that would be the pull) is meant to be the louder of the two notes aswell.

    I don’t use the tip of my thumb on the stick. I’ve tend to keep my thumb on the left of the stick so the stick is in the middle of everything. Kinda like german grip/traditional together I guess lol.

  • @peacefulbliss1
    @peacefulbliss1 Рік тому

    Good easy explanation and play along. I found this very hard to grasp but I''ll have to do it each day and put the time in. The thumb nuckle seems to have to bend up and down as the stick moves. During the push it flattens, and on the second hit snaps up, correct?

    Riccardo isn’t using push/pull, he’s just fingers and wrists. That said the stuff Ramon does is amazing the way he uses the accents and dynamics but for straight single stroke rolls and blast beats flying fingers sounds much cleaner and even than push/pull imo.

    • @tempoleaguedrums
      @tempoleaguedrums  2 роки тому +2

      Good point, flying fingers is what Riccardo has going on. Definitely hard for me to wrap my head around building up the chops to play at the speed he's playing using that technique though. But who am I kidding, it's just as hard for me to wrap my head around the level Ramon has reached. Amazing stuff. Thanks for the comment!

    Can anyone explain problems with, fatigue and detroment into bad sunchronization, how to correct?, he was geting 4 strokes with one finger pull. , have a hard time believing thus is just fingers...

    • @tempoleaguedrums
      @tempoleaguedrums  Рік тому +1

      Hey Ryan, I don’t know if I’ve totally understood the question. But fatigue and bad synchronization can be solved by going slow at first and getting solid reps in at slow tempos and slowly building up speed. There is more than just fingers going on. The arm, wrist, fingers, and small muscles in the hand all combine to make this happen. But all of those pieces won’t come together in a tight, well orchestrated way without paying the price and getting in the reps before trying to go fast.

    Quickly I want to point out-you guys are always talking about hands, fingers, wrists-which is fine,, BUT your shoulders are also involved!! They have to be healthy and balanced,, they should “hang” off of your spine symmetrically on each side…. And yes,, you are responsible for balancing them as well as whatever work you are doing in the hands and fingers.

  • @Texteltezteh
    @Texteltezteh 8 місяців тому +1

    To do this something has to stay static. I notice that both Montagner and Merlini keep their elbows static. Just wrist. When you do it your elbow and wrist both move. This is too much information for the stick which now does not want to be there. Either move elbow or the wrist but not both. This also reduces muscle fatigue. BTW it's not easy to keep up but once you find it works for a second or two the possibility becomes maybe a reality.
