My first hearing of Bethlehem Asylum and I've immediately replayed the entire album! The first track brings a marvelous folk-rock feeling, almost an Irish sound, followed with a smooth jazz vibe from the start of the second track.
"Sea Rider" brings a POWERFUL bass and drum driven rhythm. Soon the bass begins a deep "discussion" of the musical themes with the sax, including exceptional riffs from Charlie Dechant's horn. The bass then returns to it's primary function, pushing the exceptional rhythmic drive with the drummer, while the sax continues in it's own direction.
"Talking About Love" lyrics are stunning! A true love song, but not the 'Darling I love you so' pap we hear so often in rock music. Rather, the song shows the love between the players themselves, the love of band members for each other as they work together to create this art form. I've felt the love from playing in small groups to the love for symphonic choirs of 100+ singers. Yet, I've never before heard such direct lyrics for such a feeling.
There are still more tracks for you to explore, without my 'taint' from my feelings. Give this album a second, and perhaps a third listen, as it's exceptional. I've added it to my "Exceptional Albums" playlist on my Brwmeistr9 channel while still listening to the second take, a rare action for me. I hope you find it as amazing as I do!
My best to all,
Brew

Jazzier than Chicago or BS&T
I had a choice to either go to rock rehab or the Bethlehem Asylum. I committed myself to the Bethlehem Asylum because there was no way I was going to give up rock.

I think the only member of this band that would later be better known would be Charlie DeChant, aka Mr. Casual, who joined the backup band for Hall & Oates in 1976 and would work with them for many years.
