Right on the Nose! | My First Hit on an IHMSA 500 Meter Ram

- My friend Mike offered the opportunity to give the 500 Meter Rams a try at the recent Silhouette shoot at the A. P. Goodrich Rifle and Pistol Club. I think He's trying to inspire me to get an Ultra 500 gun together.

I was shooting Mike's 7-30 Waters T/C Contender. This cartridge is basically a .30-30 Winchester necked to 7mm. Just previous to my attempts, he had wrapped up a nice performance for a personal best. I have a little bit of video from his 500 Meter Rams if there is interest.
I have a few Contender barrels to choose from that could potentially work for the event...I'm leaning towards a Super 14 .30 Herrett that came from my Father. I could also shoot .30-30 Winchester, .357 Herrett, 35 Remington, or .358 JDJ - there are plenty of options!
Good stuff man! Its been a LOONG time since I did that... They closed that range over ten years ago...
Bummer. 🙁
here to support my friends..thank you for sharing interesting and cool videos..keep up the spirit and always success for all of us
Thanks for watching.
Sweet! Good shooting, Pard!
Thanks, Walter. I really enjoy the silhouette events. I have another next weekend - I need to get busy and load just about everything! 🙂
Extremely well done!
Thanks, @markcarew6724! I really enjoy the handgun silhouette shooting events.
@@WilliamCChapin Unfortunately, Canadian gun laws have destroyed handgun metallic silhouette, all silhouette for that matter.
@@markcarew6724 that’s a big time bummer. 🙁
Awesome! Well done, Curtis. Is that the creedmore (sp?) position?
Thanks! That’s one of the “Dead Frog” variants.
Great shot Chappy. Was the wind left to right? You are flexible like Gumby.
It was pretty much dead calm, misty and occasional rain. The bullet trails were fun to watch in the spotting scope! I’m getting better on the holds and trigger pull - I shot well in Big Bore, other than running the wrong dope on the chickens! Thanks for the encouragement, Toad!
@@WilliamCChapin Just for fun in settings I slowed the video down to .25 and you can see the hit. Elevation was very good as well.
@@ToadleyBrowne I have footage of Mike’s 500 yard shots - it’s a riot watching the bullet trail as it flies down there!
@@WilliamCChapin I'll keep an eye out for it.:)
Ok, I tried it again and worked this time. What cartridge?
That was 7-30 Waters in a T/C Contender Super 14
unique way of shooting
That's Freestyle, "Dead Frog"...
@@WilliamCChapin That frog 🐸 sure talked a lot for being dead 🤣🤣
@@WilliamCChapin wait, you guys saw a video? My screen was all black. Hence my comment.
@@luvtahandload7692 Hmm...that's kinda weird!
@ThecrazyScotsman That's for sure, indeed!
That is awesome.
Thanks, Brokeloader! It would be even better if there was a bear silhouette! 🙂
@@WilliamCChapin haha yeah
🤠 👍
Good shooting!
Thanks, Marc!
Jeeze.. can I get you a pillow? Well done!
IHMSA Silhouette is a ton of fun, Uncke John! Thanks for the note. 🙂
Dark out today!
It's kinda blustery today, a bit overcast. Yesterday was quite wet in Ithaca, at the A. P. Goodrich Rifle and Pistol Club where we were shooting. Thanks for watching!
👍500 meters , don't see people doing that everyday.
IHMSA Silhouette is a *TON* of fun. I typically shoot Big Bore (the Rams are at 200 Meters, Turkeys at 150, Pigs at 100, and Chickens at 50) and Field Pistol (Half Distance, Half Scale, Standing). This was the first time I tried the Ultra 500 targets.
@@WilliamCChapin Back in the 80's a bunch of friends used to shoot silhouette, You could always tell cause it was the ones with pant legs that were all torn and wore out from the muzzle blast!
Good shot , that position doesn't look too comfortable .
It’s pretty good. I struggled with time when I first started freestyle. For me, the key is getting my head high enough that I can see through the proper part of my glasses. 🤠
What caliber William?
7-30 Waters
😎👍
Thanks!
