I have the same bike, BUT it is a bugger to start in very cold weather. Talked to BMW about this, and they said when the engine is very cold it needs quite a lot of turns to get it going. In February, it just would not start, and I went to recharge the battery with leads. Could not access the battery, then I learnt about this socket. Need to get a special charger that plugs in. Have to admit, it is a weakness of this bike. Never had this stress with previous bikes. 'Will it start, will it start?' Not a problem in summer.
Hi Malcolm, I have the same issue and even with a new BMW battery installed last year on my 2019 R1250R. I have to charge the battery off and on a few weeks before I start riding regularly again as winter finishes and spring arrives. Nothing worse than feeling like you cannot stop once she is on in case she does not start again. This video is from 2016 but you get the idea. I used one of these but not via the Din socket, I just take the battery cover off and attach the charge cables directly onto the positive and negative. ua-cam.com/video/oXbmH4Z_MCA/v-deo.htmlsi=TlugxqyKr7lwWeD7
@@TheWrittleRider Thank you so much. I think my battery is fine. Had a great ride yesterday, and it started straight away, but then it was 18 degrees. However, this video could prove to be really useful. Have archived for future reference.
Hi Again RRR, this is the pillion seat that came with the bike but I believe the seat on the standard / entry-level level R1250 is maybe smooth rather than patterned like mine. All the best
Great video as per normal ..... Got a lead like you have, but cut the leads add more cable then solder it. And have mounted it up on the handle bar's so can put my phone in my tank bag and charge as I ride plus have a longer usb lead that if necessary for head set, but have pack talk can get 13 hours plus out of it.
Hi Chris, thanks very much for viewing and commenting. Wow 13 hours from your pack talk! That’s good! Glad you liked the video. Charging is something we all need and sounds like you’ve found some good solutions of your own! All the best and Ride Safe when your out next...
thank you so much for all info you give us ... mainly for R1250R which few of us have it ... i have an issue with my crashbar .. i couldn't fix the small silver part under the bike with the crashbar
Hi Adel, thanks very much for watching! I’m very glad you are finding my videos useful. That’s all I can hope for 😃. As for your crash bar what happened?
Hi Adel, Sorry but I appear to have missed this comment! Thanks for watching and your positive comment. so glad my videos are of use and appreciated by you! Hope your well and of course getting out there on your bike :). Ride Safe....
I think I'm going to do something similar, but take the power to a 'power bank' under the seat. If that charges while I'm riding I can plug my phone and helmet into it at the end of the day.
Hi Alan, thanks for watching and talking the time to comment. Yes I think that will work just perfectly 👍. All the best and when your out next .. Ride Safe…
Plan to do this tomorrow this is a great help thanks.
Hi David, thanks very much for watching and commenting. Hope it all goes well.

@@TheWrittleRider Good to know that. The battery covers were quite tricky and ended up not removing them as I thought I would break them.

Very useful video mate. You got my like. This is the standard pillion seat?

Wouldn't it have been easier to buy a fused extension, and wire that directly to the battery?
