Me at the beggining: it's just lines; easy peasy. Also me: How do I make a line? Why this looks like my tablet stopped working and I doodled all over the place?
Oh man, I envy people who are good at speed lines, haha! I'm always too timid to use them to their fullest potential. I ought to think about practicing them more!
OMG, I was having some issues with speed lines about 2 days ago and today this pops up on my notifications ... if this isn't ordained by the Gods I don't know what is 🤯 ALL HAIL THE OZ-MAN...🙌
Appreciate my re-education on Speed Lines....I know what they are for and how they are use and when.....but getting a great breakdown/refresher is always helpful. Thanks my dude!
I'd like to shout out Adam Warren of the comic Empowered, because he often times includes little tidbits about comic arts in the comments on the web version of the comic, which is where I first learned about speed lines. He also mentions using a french curve when drawing them to get a consistent curvature.
Man, you said to list someone you think was good with speed lines and was like "oh Murata definitely" and i ctrl+F'd to see if anyone had said it and then you immediately brought up One Punch Man, that's crazy
Thank you! Thank you! THANK YOU! I JUST started getting into messing around with comic strips and I was struggling with my my speed lines seemed so bleh. Seeing yours will surely help with my jouney! Also... I was about to subscribe and realized.... I already have! So a like and a comment then. Your videos are SOOO awesome!
Hello Walter, Sir! This is very useful, I haven't seen someone explain this topic before, so thank you :) Continue doing what you're doing, you're helping out a ton of noobies! And oh boy, that server sounds tempting..
When you got to the part where you asked what are some examples of comics where they use speed lines well, I was going to say the first one that comes to my mind is ONE PUNCH MAN and then you said it and I busted up laughing! That's awesome! XD Another manga with really great use of speed lines is BERSERK.
@@walterostlie you totally should! It's a really amazing and epic story (still ongoing). It's pretty mature and violent but if that doesn't bother you the story and art are really top tier. 🙌 It's Berserk by Kentaro Miura (just in case there are any other comics out there by the same name)
This was a really cool video!! Tnks walter! Qs: Can you continue posting your webcomic from another device, in case the current device you're using doesn't work or has broken down?? If so, how? Btw now im even more anxious cause there's now two comics that has the exact same name as me and me publishing on webtoon feels more like a dream now...
I draw a lot of big floppy wieners flopping around. I need professional speed lines to show just how fast they fly through air at maximum flop. Thank you for this lesson in art, senpai. God bless.
I don't use it, but you may be able to try another program specifically for that feature. Or if your program has a smudge tool, you could duplicate the layer and use a very large brush size for the smudge tool at a low setting. Maybe create a duplicate of the file, lower the resolution pixels, then increase it back to the original size to make it blurry, paste that over the original file and shift it to the side slightly. Just random ideas, I haven't tried any of these.
@@walterostlie OHHHH yaaahh! thank u thank u so much! :DD i draw at android medibang it doesnt have motion blur. thank u for this wonderful advice:D (sry if my english is bad)
Really it needs to come down to your schedule. Think about how many panels you can do a week, month, or whatever and plan the story around that. Can you do 10 panels a week. Think about your story and how you can make 10 panels full enough for your reader. Maybe you can get enough story across in 10 panels, so maybe you need to do bi-weekly updates of 20 panels. or monthly updates of 40 panels. Plan around your life. A lot of popular comics are doing 50-80 panels a week, but they are getting money and maybe doing it full time, so don't put that pressure on yourself if you're not doing it full time. Now if your slice-of-life comic is kind of a joke or gag-a-day comic, you can get away with less panels, just enough to get the joke across.
Any drawing tablet will work especially if you're just starting off. Something like this is going to be perfect for jumping in and testing out digital art amzn.to/2YMOAom. If you want a drawing monitor tablet and have $300+ you can get something like amzn.to/32D2uLd Or if you have tons of money, anything from Wacom is gonna be pretty excellent.
I am always pretty sleepy, but more so lately because I am trying to get a project launched. and I'm sorta pale for my race, but I never go outside so that's prolly why ;-) Also I have been trying to get my lighting to look better, still not sure about it.
From now on, I'm exclusively using "squiggle lines" as a professional comic art term! Thank you for an amazing and educational video as always Walter!
Me too! I was trying to search a tutorial about it but i didnt know it was part of speedlines🤣 and i like it how its called

squiggles..... WRITE THAT DOWN. WRITE THAT DOWN.
This guy deserves millions of viewers!
I need to learn how to use them more when I start drawing! Its so hard for me to make them look natural and dynamic
Thanks man, this really helps i've been wondering about how to draw speedlines for a while. But now I can try
This is some good advice I will need to come back to once I try drawing digitally.

thank you for another great video!
Thank you! It really helps!
Ohoho we are getting INTO IT
Great video. Quick and concise. Now, I'd like to see one centering on objects in motion. Shooting arrows, Sword swings, etc.

A lot of people have recommended Bezerk to me, I still need to check it out.

Berserk and there's also Fullmetal Alchemist. The author uses so many speed lines in her panels and they're never confusing
Awesome video as usual! Keep it up dude! 💥💥💥💥
I just posted chapter 2,I hope it is an improvement over chapter 1,this could not have been possible if it wont for your videos, thank you!
With Walters help I’ll be dropping my Slice if Life Webtoon tonight at 9:00pm!
Congrats! Have an awesome launch!
Walter Ostlie, just did the launch! Thanks!

Thank you 😊🤘🏼
Awesome

dang this was helpful... could you do a video(s) of different elements to add to your webtoon that will make it look more polished?
I need to know how to even get on the thing to start making the comic pls....
Can you do a medibang paint tutorial for making comic (including the speech bubbles, text, sfx) thank you
Yes, I will look into it
Hello sir. Can you please tell me what should be font size for normal dialogues in the comic.
There isn't a specific font size, depends on your file resolution. I have some lettering videos, check those out for some guidance on size.
@@walterostlie thank you so much sir 😊

Walter Ostlie, Thanks so much!
I tried drawing them but it still doesn't give off the feel of speed so i started feeling im doing it wrong 😅😭 , Thanks for explaining
What's the art from at 1:53?
It's from my book Metalshark Bro walterostlie.storenvy.com/collections/1277565-books
