Respect for the way you were able to turn a limitation (lighting within small bedroom) into a quiet masterclass on the aesthetic awareness, detail-orientation and manual creativity of experienced light workers
Thank you so much for the kind words. It's crazy what you can do with lighting when you sit down and think about it, there's many possibilities and workarounds to get things done on a budget :)
Im learning so much from your videos, seriously no one is doing lighting tutorials like you. easy to understand and amazing results. i have a small room and this was so perfect. please keep going and i hope you turn this into a series!! i can't wait for part 2 !! :)
Excellent!!! 👏👏👏 Cinematography often demands to build our own accessories, like the pioneers of cinema. Many of the equipment and accessories that we find in the market are designed many times by cinematographers and staff of the lighting and grips departments. So, if we are smart, we can make a snoot and adapt it to our lights, also cookie, sandbags, gobos, flats, diffuser frames, apple boxes and more and save a lot of money !!! Thank you for sharing your knowledge!!! 👍👍👍😊
I really love how you put together your videos. I've been looking for a channel that doesn't have any fluff and doesn't waste my time at the beginning of the video. Yours are informative and to the point without feeling rushed. I feel as though i could follow along with your videos and produce amazing work. Thank you for your videos, i'm really glad to have found tutorials that are straightforward that i don't have to skip through.
Thank you for the kind words! Absolutely, I get so frustrated with videos where I have to skip through the fluff too, so I try my best to avoid that and just stick to the info! Glad my videos have come across that way and are helping! :)
I’ll never understand why people go out of their way to dislike? Makes zero sense. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with this video. It’s some good pro tips.
@@RobEllisCinematographer Hey rob loving every video since i've found you. You have plenty of lights, can you make a video on which are the most essential and you can buy on a budget? thanks for your videos !
Diagram plus practical example is the best way one can teach lighting thanks for putting in so much efforts. One of the best channels I've stumbled upon.
Thank you!! That's crazy, I hate my voice haha but I think that's quite a common thing - I wonder how you get into that field of work, I think I would genuinely consider it! Thank you for your support on the channel :D
This was just amazing! I stumbled across part 2 and had to come back for part 1. Always wondered how smaller LED panels and lights can be achieved to create cinematic lighting effects. This has upped my understanding of light. Thank you!
I'm finding this channel really helpful! I've been editing professionally for just over 10 years and recently decided I wanted to start shooting my own stuff, but without going overboard on loads of kit. These vids have been really useful!
The mirror idea is so perfect! I can't believe I never thought of that before. THANK YOU! I am actually having the exact same issue where I need to light a bedroom and the bedroom is on the 3rd floor but I want moonlight shining in with blinds streaking across and the mirror method just solved that.
Thanks, your videos really helped me to understand how lighting and just those small details impacts the look of the scene. And most importantly: it isn‘t as difficult as I thought it was.
I'm learning a lot from your channel!!! Appreciate how you are putting quality content here. Not everyone would give such in depth information for free. I hope you get more subscribers. Just thank you for the great knowledge you are sharing with us. You are a talented teacher👏
I've just stumbled upon your channel last week and you have the best explanations of cinematic lighting that actually look KILLER. Some people will do lighting tutorials and it just looks okay, but your explanations are so in depth and look stunning. I constantly look forward to new videos from you.
I have been watching your videos for a long time now, and you have helped me so much with the basics and techniques. Really love your content and the new lesson style videos your doing. You have so much talent and you still consider the little people:) thank you for doing this!!
You are doing some fantastic work. I really loved your lighting technique videos.. Keep it up.. It's really very helpful for us who haven't much budget to buy big lighting setup
Dude this was beautifully shot and I love how you actually uploaded this in true 2.39:1 anamorphic ratio (I'm not sure if you shot with a true ana lense but I appreciate the non use of the fake black bars). Loved the use of the mirror... I have plenty of mirrors in my house that I hadn't even thought of this technique and now I have all these ideas. Thanks for everything you do! I see you use the BMPCC Micro? That is pretty awesome and the sigma? Does the micro shoot in 4k? How has your experience been with that kit? I have the BMPCC4k atm and I'm in love of coarse.
No anamorphic lens, just 4096 x 1716 resolution! That's amazing and that's exactly the sort of response I love to hear, thinking about how you can create with what you have! :) Yup, the Micro cinema camera and the Sigma 18-35 - the Micro only shoots 1080p but I superscale to 4K in post, works out lovely! I only have good things to say about the Micro and 18-35, they've been my workhorses (and the original BMCC 2.5K) for a few years and they just make beautiful images! How's the BMPCC4k? :D
@@RobEllisCinematographer Honestly, as my first cinema camera and coming from lower budget Canon 5d's and stuff (already had lpe6 batteries) it's worked out so fantastic. Other than clients wanting photos I no longer do that. BRAW is my first raw workflow and I couldn't imagine the bs with pro res and dng files or red raw... I love the open platform and the fact everything works within a Linux workstation! One thing though... I feel the newer 4k sensor has a real "video" look while the last gen pocket and micro camera has so much character!!! I love it though! Rigged out is a beauty, expensive but great now!
Rob, I love your lighting tutorials! Only took me 4 years to find youtubers that focus on actual usable lighting tips, not just three point lighting. Thank you
Thank you Isaac!!

Right. Just trolls is all.
UA-cam put me on trending - I've been deleting bot comments and watching my dislikes balloon upwards for 24 hours haha. Thank you so much! :)
I agree! Great tips! Why dislike? Jealous
Wanna know who? Idiots do.

thanks for this tutorial! 3:10 was a bit of unintentional comedy "it means we don't need another light for Phil"
Hahaha didn't notice that until now! Thank you :)
You know what you do. Sound simple, but it´s no usual to find people like that. Thanks.
If you made a lighting course I would 100% invest! Looking forward to seeing more
