DieselGeek's video and narrative make this intimidating project doable, even for a first-timer! And now my Bug shifts like it is new. Try it, you'll love the results. Total cost, including the hole saw and bushings was about $125.
I have a 98 TDI NB so it's a little different. So far, today, I have only replaced the Front/Back bushing up front. I got it it all together again and now I have trouble getting into R, 1, and 2nd. Watching all these videos I realized that I probably should have pinned the shifter and set the arm up front... not really sure yet, to be honest. Wish me luck! Commenting here because of your comment in the video, "Oh man, this is so much smaller than it looked on Dieselgeek". That made me LOL. Too true. :)
Salve io ho un problema con la quinta marcia poi qualche tempo fa ho avuto problemi con la retromarcia e la terza marcia non entravano bene come posso risolvere il problema se è un problema di boccole mi puoi dare un consiglio come risolvere grazie

I'm looking to buy a 2003 Volkswagen Beetle Turbo with manual transmission.. with 120kmikes. Would you recommend that I do? If so why? If not, then why? BTW this question is for anyone.
If the price is great and you are handy with cars, it might be ok. Just be aware that they are expensive to work on, most mechanics charge what they would for a Mercedes and other high end imports. Also, with our VW and another one that a friend had, all of the plastic parts deteriorated. So you are constantly working on them to replace or repair those parts. I'm not sure how VW makes them differently, but I never saw this with older Asian model cars (Honda, Toyota, and Nissan).
I came into an '02 turbo for free around the same mileage. Fun car, pretty cool, but as Michael said, you pay a premium. Even all the fluids can be a bit more expensive. Usually it's worth it because you're getting decent stuff, harder to justify on a used one though. Anyway, electrical problems are common. Mine currently doesn't have AC because the blower fans don't work. They don't work because there is a short IN the fuse box, melting the box, oh fun. I also just got an error for a knock sensor, not a big deal though, but I'd expect some sensors to need tending to at 120k. Today my partner ran into the problem this video addresses. At least I hope so, haven't checked myself yet, hopefully it's this and not transmission..... Anyway, good luck!
@@willaimguzman4819 Agree. But, $33 to get back on the road is cheaper than the $100's that a mechanic will charge. Have you found someplace cheaper for this? Let us know, if so.
@@Twinturbomach Once you pull the shifter out, the cables can be moved around with your fingers or a pair of pliers to move the transmission into neutral.

Drilled it out. Explained in the video.

How did you get it out of gear
I didn't. That's the reason I had to tear it apart and replace the parts.
I mean once you tore it apart did it just come out out gear

Michael Hamlin there’s no way of putting it in neutral with the linkage on top of the trans
Love pecans
Why wouldn’t you take the damn knob and boot off, that was annoying me the whole time!
