International play is a team type of atmosphere not one person can dominate an international play. I feel like the wnba/ women's basketball had always done things the "right way" to make sure no slander can be given to the sport while they were trying to grow it. But what they are missing is when you have that single person catalyzing the popularity of the sport, you need to make exceptions to the rules to capitalize on it. Are you trying to convince me that taking off a player who has not played all season and likely will not play much to add Clarke will affect that outcome much? Clarke will likely only see a few minutes per game ala Lebron in his first Olympics. It is clear to me that the only thing that would be hurt would be egos.

I feel like the wnba/ women's basketball had always done things the "right way" to make sure no slander can be given to the sport while they were trying to grow it. But what they are missing is when you have that single person catalyzing the popularity of the sport, you need to make exceptions to the rules to capitalize on it. I get it that Clark didn't make it to the workouts and what not and so technically shouldn't make the team, but she is by far the most popular person in the league. As for who do you take off? Literally anyone.... It is a bit unfair but that's what happens when you have someone like Clark
This CC stuff is getting to cultish levels. Even if she made the team, having so little experience compared to the others in international play, she would barely play. Then the coach would have to waste time answering questions of why CC isn't getting more minutes. It would be about CC and not the team or the other players. There's no one on the team I can make a case to remove and replace with CC.

That is bogus. If Team USA is as dominate as it has been in the past, then there would be blow out games where the "Bench" is played in order to rest the starters a bit.
Will identify myself upfront. A IA high school basketball player from 50 years ago, a CC fan an a IA fan. CC may be in a situation that other rookies who were on the teams in the past were not. Social media! If there was not so many opinions flowing through social media creating a toxic environment on both sides she probably is on the team.
A lot of CC fans believe she is better than anyone else and that is not true. A lot of people who are against CC use every weakness she has and she does have them to diminish the similar start she has had to some of the outstanding players on team U.S.A. Some on both sides (not saying you are one of them) need a much needed break from the social media war.
As a fan of CC, I think she will be better off if she is not on the team in this environment. If the team is on my antenna T.V. I will watch them in the Olympics. I am pretty sure I will get to see Simone Biles. Now there is quite the woman athlete!

Rookies have been on the Olympic team before. Rebecca Lobo in 1996, Diana Taurasi in 2002, Candace Parker in 2008 and Breanna Stewart in 2016. None of these players were the all time NCAA scoring champions as CC is,…in both the men’s and women’s BB. Every NBA and WNBA superstar who played in the NCAA has been out scored by CC.
CC in her rookie season, has certainly out performed the other previous rookies that made the team.

Rebecca Lobo came across as sheepishly disingenuous. Taurasi is 42, she’s not the future of women basketball. She even made the team straight out of college before she even played a WNBA game. Same for Breanna Stewart. Chelsea Gray hasn’t played in over a year. Griner has played just one game this year. Lobo like so many older W players and ex-players are envious that Clark is bringing the eyeballs to their game they never could and making the kind of money they never did. Just plain dumb!

They're talking like the WNBA is as popular as the NBA and that Women's basketball in the Olympics is such a popular sport. They're not. They're still being subsidized by the NBA.

Considering the marketing impact and overall revenue loss (both in jersey & product sales and viewership), Team USA should have included Caitlin Clark. She’s no pushover, and her presence could have further elevated the WNBA and sustained the momentum generated by the ‘CC effect.’ i hope NIKE, NBA & WNBA should step in to protect their investment

Thank you Rebecca Lobo that is why I have love you since your Uconn/Liberty days for explaining to these folks who never cared much about women's basketball or female athletes until Caitlin arrive on the map, don't understand there are players who have sacrifice their tails off and earned this opportunity as well to represent this country in the Olympics. They clearly didn't analyze the list, each of those players are very good in their own right. As a matter a fact if Chelsey Gray is unable to make it on the team due to her injury, I being a fan of Gray and Caitlin I don't know if Caitlin should be the one who replaces Gray in my humble opinion and my reason is chemistry. Many of these ladies if not all has not played with Caitlin in overseas play etc. I would go with Arike Ogumbowale if Gray can't go.
