I think Caitlin Clark’s entire body of work as an athlete is a big slap in the face to the entire sport of women’s basketball and all the complaining they have been doing in the past 3 years. To better narrow down my point, Women in the WNBA were literally complaining they don’t get paid the same as men because they are women. Now Caitlin Clark catches fire by actually working hard to be a sensational athlete - and this is exactly what men have been saying the entire time in rebuttal to women complaining. You have to play good to get noticed, getting noticed gets sponsorship and advertising, which gets you more money as an athlete.
Diana Taurasi is just salty because in her mind she was sensational and in her opinion a sensational athlete this entire time. I believe Taurasi is a great athlete but she wasn’t transcendently great. Taurasi is like Bill Russell, and Caitlin Clark is like Michael Jordan. We all know Michael Jordan was the man of his era, but Bill Russell has the most championships - despite not many knowing him. Jordan is an entire brand and arguably the goat.
A newbie came to your company and in 2 days was getting shout outs by the CEO about how exceptional they are and they can't wait until the rookie becomes a manager soon, you'd probably be like wtf but whatever ryt?

Players like Caitlin and Steph earned the "shoot from anywhere" green light. There aren't many players with that level of freedom because there aren't that many players with that level of shot-making. To imply that Caitlin's stats come from the freedom is putting the cart in front of the horse. In other words, Lexi is hating.
I’m an Iowa fan, and it took me two years to figure out why Caitlin is allowed to be so inefficient. The entire Iowa half-court offense ran off the fact that the defense needs to pay attention to Caitlin as soon as she hits half-court. That creates space for everyone else, and when she takes two steps toward the hoop, she draws at least two defenders and then her court vision allows her to find who is open. Basically, if Caitlin throws you a hard pass (rather than just something to move the ball around), she’s decided that your shot is the best one available and you take it - no dribbling allowed. 😆

Caitlyn Clark is like 95% of the reason I’ll be catching some wnba games this year. I tried giving this league a real shot, the last time I tried to watch was phoenix vs Seattle in the finals and I just couldn’t sit through a game. When I turned on the Iowa game to see what the hype was about, I was pleasantly surprised at how the women’s game evolved, and if the women hate it so much they should get better than her.
Caitlin is absolutely getting the most hype of any WNBA player ever, but one thing you have to keep in mind is this social media 24 hour news cycle is not that old.
So 3/4th of these women stars before her came into an even less popular WNBA, with no social media. So I don’t understand the jealousy, times have changed, that is all and hindsight is 20-20.
Unless you were MJ, Kobe, Bron etc it was entirely different. Not even them got her level of hype because the information about them came only through magazines, TV, newspapers, a few minute news segment, and that was IT.

Here is the reality; Lexi running her mouth when she scored 2k points in college (half of Clark) and like 3 rebounds 3 assists per game. That is beyond weak in college. WNBA averaging 6 points and under 2 assists/rebounds a game? She is trash. How she stays in the WNBA with those numbers is a serious question.

Aliyah Boston was a rookie last year. They embraced her. Drafted and immediately makes the All-Star game. On the Olympic team, Rookie of the Year.
Aliyah had nowhere near the hype that Caitlin Clark has, nor the same expectations.
A lot of people are missing the point. Those with common sense aren't declaring CC to be the best, but are seeing that maybe, if see puts up the same numbers, she'll bring in the viewers. That will then bring in the fans, which will get people talking. After all is said and done, the real fun can finally begin.

Gil, FYI I just looked up tickets to see Caitlin play Atlanta in June. Tickets start at $460 up to $800. It’s in a smaller arena. They gonna have to mover her to a bigger venue for some of the games.

I’m sure where the defense sagged off on her for wide open shots, Caitlin leads the nation on three’s, points, and assists with basically having the ball in her hands all game and being faceguarded and every opponent knowing they need to stop her and still can’t. Her style of play is what makes her so exciting. Her ability to shoot and make 30+ foot threes is what separates her from all the other women that may shoot at a higher % than her. Her play style reminds me a lot of Trae young in college and it’s fair to say he’s adjusted pretty well to the nba. it doesn’t even matter if she’s not better than some players in the WNBA, it’s simply that she is more entertaining than any other women’s player. Since none of the players can dunk the next best thing is someone who can consistently make 30 footers. I think CC could revolutionize the women’s game and have an influence similar to what Steph curry has had on the modern NBA. At the end of the day, Caitlin Clark does NOT need the WNBA, the WNBA needs her. Hoping she will be protected from unfair treatment due to the jealously of these players and have a great career!!

But these college players don’t have a break. The draft is next week, training camp is like two/three weeks after the end of the college season. So she goes from one season straight to another. Hitting a wall has nothing to do with her not being talented enough to compete. It has something to do with her not having an offseason to recover from her college season
A lot of guards don’t immediately transfer tho I wouldn’t be surprised if she’s inefficient to start but at the same time she’s already got a pick and roll partner so that’ll help

She will have immediate success, because instead of her vs. a super team program like SC/UCONN/LSU, it will finally be her with other good teammates against good teams. If anything it will be easier because she doesn't have to carry 2/3 of the scoring load via shots and assists.
@@robertdouth8979 one of her biggest weaknesses was playing without system movement against good defenders. Obviously fixable with her skillset but will only get harder at the next level I think she’s gonna be great but I think her sophomore year is where she will truly take off

DT was playing in a weak SOS division and conference that basically had "no pro league" aspirations or career projections at the time. You didn't play or grind basketball for a profession around then. The conference was like at 9 SOS, which is super weak. Stewie was around 11 SOS. Clark's playing at a competition around 16-17 SOS. So, almost twice as difficult as DT's era.
In addition, DT and Stewie have a program that literally blows out teams cause they stacked to guide them. None of them have to deal with exhaustion cause they need to play 40 minutes nearly every game, or any defensive game plan where they attract nearly the whole team. Coaches game plan merely for Caitlin Clark. In the NCAA back then, they had no such problem since you couldn't do that because of how stacked the teams were. Like she said, you look superhuman going against 18 year olds when you got a whole WNBA roster on your team... Take away the roster and you probably aren't even looking like you're anything but an 18 year old.
I just don't think they compare. After all, Clark out here has to face 5 and 6 year seniors too--which is literally the prime age for some of these WNBA stars. There's really no way to expect them to be the same era. After all, this same amazing group lost to a college during the covid years. Doesn't seem like it's as much of a gap as they make it out to be. Only difference is the style of play and size at each position.
