I OWE YOU MY ENTIRE PROJECT!!! So many channels don't show you that you have to tighten the clutch and so I was so confused when I couldn't get the counter balance to lock in and nearly gave up but you genuinely have saved my uni project so thankyou so much!!
The problem is, once you spend all that time to frame your shot, the polar alignment is usually off and now you have to reset that as well, then after you reset that, your framing will likely be off again, and it is a back and forth battle until you get both just right. I was out last night to try this for the first time, and I will tell you, it is an exercise in frustration, this definitely takes patience and practice. No matter how much time I took to set the polar alignment, I just kept getting star trails and blurry images! Don't expect to get any descent shots when you first start using this setup! This is NOT Easy folks, but I am up to the challenge!
@@kamilkp is there a video that covers this problem and advice on how to overcome it? What I'm confused about is by the time you have done everything in this video then the polar alignment is off. I would have thought switching on the tracker should be the first thing you do. If it takes you 5 mins to set all this up and polar alignment is off can you re-align with the equipment in place or do you have to take the brackets off and re do the alignment. I do appreciate that once you have done this a million time it's probably very quick to get up and running. I just feel it's a all a bit daunting for beginners having to remember everything and then once you have done it all then alignment is all off. As someone who hasn't yet received my equipment this is the most confusing thing for me to understand right now. I am getting a guide scope - will this make it easier?

I watched the first video you made on setting up the Adventure and then this one. You have done a superior job in both of these tutorials in presenting the material in a very easy to understand format with lots of hands on demonstrations to go with the information you are teaching. A lot of people that make tutorials should come see your videos to understand how to properly do a tutorial. Keep up the fantastic work!!
Ahhhh that section for fine tuning was a lifesaver. Each time my azimuth was out slightly while framing an object I was loosening the main clutch to move the camera. Now I know I can just use those buttons on the size. Thanks!!

yep - I'll second that - have watched loads of vids and got very little from them previously but this has been great. I already had a lot of the tools but no real instruction on practical use - I had been using a celestron GoTo scope (AstroFi 130) but wasn't getting what I wanted. From just this vid (and the previous Sky-Watcher Star Adventurer setup tutorial), I now know what I'm looking for, how to find it and how to set up a mount correctly. Ten mins after watching this I've now ordered a nice ball-head tripod and also the Sky-Watcher Adventurer Pro kit (I'm in the UK, sorry Kamil) Keep it up, these are brilliant and I'll be back for more

When I place my tripod on grass, I hang a 10lb weight off the center post with a strap. Press the tripod head downward and then let it sit for another 1/2 hr to settle in. That way when I am polar aligned and make some small adjustments the polar alignment doesn't get messed up.
Every other video I've found on UA-cam goes into great detail on setup and polar alignment, but none of them went into how to adjust to the target. In everything I read I somehow missed that there was a second clutch so was completely lost.Thank you so much Kamil!!

Im a novice at this and your videos are by far the BEST and I use them as a reference all the time. One question, the focusing on live view for dark skies is almost an impossibility as the stars dont really show up on the screen (shooting with a Nikon D850 unmoved). Any tips would be super welcome!

I've been imaging with an alt-az Goto-mount and an MSM Startracker (smaller lenses) with a ballhead. I recently (yesterday actually) got a Star Adventurer and I was wondering if there was any tricks I'd missed for aiming at a target. I know it's possible since I've seen so many use the SA without ballhead - this video made it all so much clearer. Another great one Kamil. I've learned lots from your Star Adventurer videos.
I have been trying to get more info on the know-how of operating skywatcher tracker, this video and other related videos have been incredibly useful. Admittedly, I have seen many videos but your short but precise videos answered my questions. My only request is, please talk slowly :-)
You can also use Telescopius to calculate the FOV of your equipment (no need for another website). It is quite convenient, because you can save your equipment (lenses, eyespieces, etc) so that you dont have to input all the info again and again. It also has a scope simulator, so that you can see your target as you would see it through your actual equipment, therefore you can try different configurations until you find the one that best fits your needs. And all from home, before going out to the field :-)
The Night Sky app is very good for finding objects in the sky. When you open the app, you just point your phone in the sky and it uses your phone’s motion and shows you what you’re looking at. The app can also use your camera so you can literally see where it is in the sky

Really nice and helpful set of videos. I was thinking on buying a GoTo mount such as the EQM35, but I think the Star Adventurer is more suitable for beginners like me, because you MUST learn to locate the objects manually, so at the end you can really tell that you know and understand the night sky.
Kamil Pekala The Red cat has a flat field unlike lenses so stars are round even at the edges and colors are balanced with no fringing or purple colors around stars. And it is cheaper than the better telephoto lenses so it is a good buy. The also make it in white and gray. The white one is the white cat and the gray one is the space cat. These scopes are so hot the is up to a 3 month wait if you order one.
Oh wow, yeah I’ve seen A LOT of people using and talking about them. I was wondering what all the fuss is about. Too bad it’s only 250mm though, I’m shooting on a full frame camera so that’s pretty wide for DSO :/

Ive got a cannon 90d with the live view function which displays what its pointing at which will negate the step off taking test shots to see what its looking at I think, awesome video thanks so much cant wait to get my tracker (ordered and on the way) and get to taking exposures
My Adventurer Pro 2i is collecting dust until I get my diagonal to use for polar alignment. Can't work with the polar scope through that eyepiece. I went back to a ball head and now have different problems. 400mm Sony lens A7RIII 1 sec exposure f6.3 ISO 3200. Use a Hoodman on the Live View when focusing. Am getting egg shaped or short trails on the stars. This for all individual 120 shots of the Orion Nebula. Am going to try shorter focal lengths and see if that helps. I've shot star trails and the milky way with the Sony and don't have problems.

You are an amazing teacher. Your explanations are both thorough and clear. I took my first star adventurer tracked images last week using 14mm and 50mm lens. The stars were tack sharp on 171 second exposures. Because I didn't take multiple images, there was more noise than I wanted. How many tracked images do you typically take to reduce the noise significantly? Thank you for this video. I look forward to taking some deep sky images. As of now, my longest lens is 135mm. Maybe I can find something interesting without a telescope or longer lens. Thanks to you, I can find any location in the sky without a ballhead. I am grateful.
Thanks John, that comment made my day 😊. About the thing you asked - well it depends. For Milly Way shots I usually take 9-16 images (signal to noise ratio increases with a square root of the number of exposures - I have a video about it too); and for deep sky astro I shoot as much as I can haha which is at least 50 (you are limited by the length of dark night - between astronomical twilights)
Thank you very much for providing detail with the Star Adventurer. I just got mine yesterday and set it up today...during the daytime. I was having trouble with using a ballhead and this video explained to me I don't need it! Much simpler to set up and use too. I'll try tomorrow in getting a deep sky object...it's winter so I'll probably go for Orion. Again, thanks. I do have one question though. The "Polar Alignment Scale" is backwards on the actual Star Adventurer. Could you go into detail on how to use it with the backwards appearance?

When looking through the scope everything that is suppose to be on the right is actually on the left and is backward as if looking at writing reflected on a mirror. The same is true for the left being on the right. The lettering and numbers are backwards as if viewing on a mirror too. It's as if you're looking at an image on the ground glass on a large format camera only it's not upside down. Sorry, I'm unable to send a picture.
Yes the image in the polar scope is flipped but it’s perfectly normal. A camera lens also flips the image and then what is read by the sensor is flipped back in firmware.
@@kamilkp OK. I feel really stupid. What I thought was backward was actually upside down. i.e. The number 3 was on the left side and appeared backward and actually it was on the left side and upside down. Therefore, when I rotated the eye piece of the polar scope to where the number 3 was on the right side and the number 9 was on the left side everything appeared as it should. So, all I had to do was rotate the polar scope eyepiece! Duh! I'm sorry about all this. Thanks for your concern.
Your videos have been excellent and I have been viewing them multiple times. I do have two questions. First are you aware of anyone who makes lens tripod mounting rings for lenses that do not come with them originally? Secondly, have you considered using PS Align Pro mounted to the camera's hot shoe for alignment to a DSO? It does have a feature for what it calls jumping to a DSO. I don't have my tracker yet, but I will probably try that out. If you think it might be a good idea, it would be nice to see a video on it.
dzień dobry! I found your channel whilst trying to do some troubleshooting for my star adventurer. Since I have watched several of your videos: very clear concise and easy to follow… Much appreciated. I am doing something that you don’t recommend though: I’ve got a ball head mounted on my dovetail bar. With that I’ll either attach my cropped sensor or full frame DSLR and a relatively lightweight Askar 135 or 180 telescope lens. With heavier lenses for instance the one you were using in one of your videos this would probably be problematic but both ASKAR telescope lenses are quite lightweight. Thoughts? Dziękuję!
A great video. I have a "Beginner" question. Once we establish polar alignment, the tracker should be kept running correct so it maintains alignment? For example, if I shoot the Milky Way and then decide to shoot something else and need to move the camera to the other object, the tracker remains on while I loosen the clutches for the camera mount and Dec bracket?
It doesn’t have to be ON. It only has to be ON when you want to maintain framing for instance when you are framing up your shot before setting up the intervalometer it should already be ON so that your object doesn’t slip away out of frame. But when the tracker is aligned it will keep being aligned even if it’s off and Polaris moves around the polar clock inside the reticle. Is that clear enough? Let me know!
I read that once you find a star near a deep sky object, you can look up the location in Stellarium and also look up the deep sky object location, do the math and move the ascension that many minutes on the polar scope dial, then move the declination fine tune the calculated degrees and you should be on the desired object. Does this work? (ie. star =1 hour 55 minutes, object = 2 hours 35 minutes so move so dial on polar scope moves 40 minutes clockwise; 63 degrees verses 61 degrees, so move fine tune knob to turn camera 2 degrees to the left.)
Hmm maybe with some trackers it might work for I have never done that and I the Star Adventurer doesn’t have any angular scalr on the RA or Dec axes. You’d have to eyeball it and I don’t think it would be precise enough. Cool insight though, thanks!

Brilliant tutorials . Please can I ask a question. I've been using my star adventurer for a little while now but with shorter focal lengths to try and ensure I'm polar aligning correctly, I'm now wanting to to start using my larger lens with the dovetail bracket. I didn't realise you could use the arrow buttons to fine tune your composition when using a big lens.. but would using them, not change your polar alignment if they are moving the mount ? Or would you polar align afterwards? But then the reticle would not be the right way up to be able to polar align. sorry im a little confused. Thanks

Zdarza się tak niestety. Warto czasem po ustawieniu wszystkiego zrobić jedną klatkę, zgrać na komputer czy telefon, zaimportować do Lightrooma i dać dehaze na 100 i kontrast na 100 i zobaczyć czy „coś tam jest”. Bo tak to kiepsko zbierać materiał przez 2 godziny albo dłużej, żeby potem się okazało, że było źle wykadrowane 😟
I just discovered your channel and have been binge watching. Thanks for making great clear videos.I have one question and maybe you can provide some feedback. When camera is mounted and you want to do re-polar alignment (assuming something moved slightly), I know you can see through polar scope in the middle through Declination bracket. But since Sky Watcher doesn't have inbuilt light, how do you achieve it in field in the night? Are the rings visible without light in the dark?
Thanks! I’m glad to hear that 😊 and to answer your question - yes the rings inside the scope are visible without the illuminator. They are very dim and hard to see at first but if you look through the scope for a while your eyes would adapt and you’ll be able to see them faintly. Otherwise just hold the red illuminator with your hand close to the end of the scope and it will cast some light on it. It’s not the most convenient thing to do but it’s doable!
@@kamilkp The SA ships with a small plastic adapter that mounts in the slot in Dec bracket and receives the illuminator. Not great solution but beats the handheld.

Further to my question, should the clutch be completely disengaged or partially dragging? If fully free-wheeling physics surely dictate that it will find its balance when horizontal or am i mad?
You can have it either way but if you have it off then once you frame your target it will immediatelly start to slip off your field of view. Better to work with a turned on tracker at this point
Actually yes. The balance might get off doing that but only a little bit really - but yeah it’s a good idea to check the balance. In fact this is one of 4 things I forgot to mention in the video and I’ll wrap them up and talk about them in the next one next week. Stay tuned 😊
Thank you so much for these videos. You are very good at explaining how it all works, and fits together. Liked and subbed :) However I'm getting very confused about something, that you might be able to clear up. So at 13:40 you are talking about how you can point the camera lens in any direction by twisting the dovetail where the L-bracket is fastened and the place where the camera is fastened. What confuses me is how the tracking still works. If the whole mount is pointed at Polaris and rotating, wouldn't pointing the camera into the other direction break the tracking? Maybe it's just hard to make sense of when imagining it in my head.
Thanks Jules! Well to be honest I was confused about the exact same thing when I was starting out with equatorial mounts for astrophotography. There are are a few things that come into play here but it boils down to the fact that every spot in the sky „seems” to move in a circle around celestial poles. So if the camera rotates in the opposite direction than any point would seem stationary with regards to the camera. I will actually be making a video about this - why do trackers like these even work - so good thing that you’ve subscribed 😉
Please explain what is the 'SNAP' hole, the autoguider port, and USB port. I'm guessing the USB port is for an external battery or connect to a laptop? Can you show all these things to more thoroughly cover all the features? Also some instructions say you have to input your local time? Thank you.
Most of this stuff is written in the manual. The point of my videos is not to be a 100% video coverage of the manual but rather to point out some practical tips and things that were left out from the manual. SNAP is to connect a shutter release cable, USB to optionally provide power from a powerbank and autoguider - to connect an autoguider (camera and software co correct for any tracking imperfections)

I'm glad you like them 😊 I use the CLS filter from Astronomik. They do have a version for full frame DSLRs, but it appears the 5D mk 4 is not supported 🙁. You can check out the details here: www.astronomik.com/en/clip-filter-fur-canon-vollformat.html I know that "Optolong" also makes good filters - check out what they have to offer - but I don't have any personal experience with them.
Excellent video, I have recently got the star adventurer and waiting for dark nights to try it out. Plus I already own this lens so excited to try that too. I live in a class 4/5 bortle sky, do you use filters at all? Plus it would be great to see a resulting shot of this sort of set up. Thanks for you invaluable info and help.

Absolutely! The 200mm on a full frame would require some cropping for targets like Andromeda but for Orion now in the fall/winter it should be awesome. I envy you the ability to shoot at f/2.8 !
I’m using an external intervalometer plugged straight into the camera. I don’t think there is any difference but honestly I never tried doing it through the tracker.
I know this vid is old, but i have a dumb question😅 So, i do a PA and turn on the tracker? Or first i do the teste shots, balance everything, etc.. and then turn on the tracker? Im asking this cause, testing shots, frame, etc.. take like 2 or 4min. In this 2 or 4 min dont the polaris move? Thanks

Hi Kamil, thanks for the really informative videos! I've got one potentially silly question. When you've framed up your DSO with the camera and are ready to shoot, should the main clutch be fully tightened, slightly loose or completely loose? I would've thought if it was fully tight then the motor wouldn't be able to turn the setup, but if it's completely loose then wouldn't wind/slight imbalances in the setup cause it all to drift??
Thanks! It needs to be fully tightened - the clutch is used to sort of detach it from the motor. It’s like a clutch in your car, if you press the pedal then the wheels can rotate freely independent of the motor, and when you let it go, then the motor can still turn them 😉
Wonderful video Kamil, I just got my SA and anxious to use it this weekend in the Calif Sierras. I know using the wide angle plate and a ball head I can point my camera south while the tracker is polar aligned, but is it possible to do the same thing with DSO that is south in the south? Basically can you shoot an object that is 180 degrees behind the SA?.
Absolutely yes! Just rotate the declination axis 180 degrees and then adjust elevation by rotating the right ascention axis. Try it out and you’ll figure it out in no time!

Hey Kamil - I to test my SA, I used it for a time lapse of the Moon and a mountian landscape. Ththge results were so so but that was user error on my part, still it was leaning experience. Thanks again for the help and the videos...regards DanC
Good morning, if my camera is rotated down to say 6 O clock as the sky watcher rotates won't it be rotating against the movement of the stars as it turns through 360? Does this make sense?
Think of it as if the mount suspends your camera in space disconnected from the rotating earth. Now wherever you point the camera and however you frame your shot it will just stay that way no matter what the earth does

Indeed, astrophotography requires a fair bit of patience and persistence /practice as you say, especially for the beginner.

Ahhhh that section for fine tuning was a lifesaver. Each time my azimuth was out slightly while framing an object I was loosening the main clutch to move the camera. Now I know I can just use those buttons on the size. Thanks!!

yep - I'll second that - have watched loads of vids and got very little from them previously but this has been great.
I already had a lot of the tools but no real instruction on practical use - I had been using a celestron GoTo scope (AstroFi 130) but wasn't getting what I wanted.
From just this vid (and the previous Sky-Watcher Star Adventurer setup tutorial), I now know what I'm looking for, how to find it and how to set up a mount correctly. Ten mins after watching this I've now ordered a nice ball-head tripod and also the Sky-Watcher Adventurer Pro kit (I'm in the UK, sorry Kamil)

Agreed this and tyhe previous vids are some of the best, short and to the point tutorials I've seen on YT.
When I place my tripod on grass, I hang a 10lb weight off the center post with a strap. Press the tripod head downward and then let it sit for another 1/2 hr to settle in. That way when I am polar aligned and make some small adjustments the polar alignment doesn't get messed up.
Every other video I've found on UA-cam goes into great detail on setup and polar alignment, but none of them went into how to adjust to the target. In everything I read I somehow missed that there was a second clutch so was completely lost.Thank you so much Kamil!!

Im a novice at this and your videos are by far the BEST and I use them as a reference all the time. One question, the focusing on live view for dark skies is almost an impossibility as the stars dont really show up on the screen (shooting with a Nikon D850 unmoved). Any tips would be super welcome!

I've been imaging with an alt-az Goto-mount and an MSM Startracker (smaller lenses) with a ballhead. I recently (yesterday actually) got a Star Adventurer and I was wondering if there was any tricks I'd missed for aiming at a target. I know it's possible since I've seen so many use the SA without ballhead - this video made it all so much clearer. Another great one Kamil. I've learned lots from your Star Adventurer videos.

I have been trying to get more info on the know-how of operating skywatcher tracker, this video and other related videos have been incredibly useful. Admittedly, I have seen many videos but your short but precise videos answered my questions. My only request is, please talk slowly :-)
This is how I normally talk and the videos are already 20 min long haha. You can try slowing the playback down to 75% speed
You can also use Telescopius to calculate the FOV of your equipment (no need for another website). It is quite convenient, because you can save your equipment (lenses, eyespieces, etc) so that you dont have to input all the info again and again. It also has a scope simulator, so that you can see your target as you would see it through your actual equipment, therefore you can try different configurations until you find the one that best fits your needs. And all from home, before going out to the field :-)
The Night Sky app is very good for finding objects in the sky. When you open the app, you just point your phone in the sky and it uses your phone’s motion and shows you what you’re looking at. The app can also use your camera so you can literally see where it is in the sky

Really nice and helpful set of videos. I was thinking on buying a GoTo mount such as the EQM35, but I think the Star Adventurer is more suitable for beginners like me, because you MUST learn to locate the objects manually, so at the end you can really tell that you know and understand the night sky.
Great video. I have the Star Adventurer and use it with my Red Cat 51 and my Canon EOS Ra. I get excellent photos. What a wonderful hobby.

Kamil Pekala The Red cat has a flat field unlike lenses so stars are round even at the edges and colors are balanced with no fringing or purple colors around stars. And it is cheaper than the better telephoto lenses so it is a good buy. The also make it in white and gray. The white one is the white cat and the gray one is the space cat. These scopes are so hot the is up to a 3 month wait if you order one.
Oh wow, yeah I’ve seen A LOT of people using and talking about them. I was wondering what all the fuss is about. Too bad it’s only 250mm though, I’m shooting on a full frame camera so that’s pretty wide for DSO :/

Ive got a cannon 90d with the live view function which displays what its pointing at which will negate the step off taking test shots to see what its looking at I think, awesome video thanks so much cant wait to get my tracker (ordered and on the way) and get to taking exposures

My Adventurer Pro 2i is collecting dust until I get my diagonal to use for polar alignment. Can't work with the polar scope through that eyepiece. I went back to a ball head and now have different problems. 400mm Sony lens A7RIII 1 sec exposure f6.3 ISO 3200. Use a Hoodman on the Live View when focusing. Am getting egg shaped or short trails on the stars. This for all individual 120 shots of the Orion Nebula. Am going to try shorter focal lengths and see if that helps. I've shot star trails and the milky way with the Sony and don't have problems.

I took my first star adventurer tracked images last week using 14mm and 50mm lens. The stars were tack sharp on 171 second exposures. Because I didn't take multiple images, there was more noise than I wanted. How many tracked images do you typically take to reduce the noise significantly? Thank you for this video. I look forward to taking some deep sky images. As of now, my longest lens is 135mm. Maybe I can find something interesting without a telescope or longer lens. Thanks to you, I can find any location in the sky without a ballhead. I am grateful.
Thanks John, that comment made my day 😊. About the thing you asked - well it depends. For Milly Way shots I usually take 9-16 images (signal to noise ratio increases with a square root of the number of exposures - I have a video about it too); and for deep sky astro I shoot as much as I can haha which is at least 50 (you are limited by the length of dark night - between astronomical twilights)
Thank you very much for providing detail with the Star Adventurer. I just got mine yesterday and set it up today...during the daytime. I was having trouble with using a ballhead and this video explained to me I don't need it! Much simpler to set up and use too. I'll try tomorrow in getting a deep sky object...it's winter so I'll probably go for Orion. Again, thanks. I do have one question though. The "Polar Alignment Scale" is backwards on the actual Star Adventurer. Could you go into detail on how to use it with the backwards appearance?
What do you mean that it’s backwards? Can you send a photo or something?

When looking through the scope everything that is suppose to be on the right is actually on the left and is backward as if looking at writing reflected on a mirror. The same is true for the left being on the right. The lettering and numbers are backwards as if viewing on a mirror too. It's as if you're looking at an image on the ground glass on a large format camera only it's not upside down. Sorry, I'm unable to send a picture.
Yes the image in the polar scope is flipped but it’s perfectly normal. A camera lens also flips the image and then what is read by the sensor is flipped back in firmware.
@@kamilkp OK. I feel really stupid. What I thought was backward was actually upside down. i.e. The number 3 was on the left side and appeared backward and actually it was on the left side and upside down. Therefore, when I rotated the eye piece of the polar scope to where the number 3 was on the right side and the number 9 was on the left side everything appeared as it should. So, all I had to do was rotate the polar scope eyepiece! Duh! I'm sorry about all this. Thanks for your concern.
Your videos have been excellent and I have been viewing them multiple times. I do have two questions. First are you aware of anyone who makes lens tripod mounting rings for lenses that do not come with them originally? Secondly, have you considered using PS Align Pro mounted to the camera's hot shoe for alignment to a DSO? It does have a feature for what it calls jumping to a DSO. I don't have my tracker yet, but I will probably try that out. If you think it might be a good idea, it would be nice to see a video on it.
dzień dobry! I found your channel whilst trying to do some troubleshooting for my star adventurer. Since I have watched several of your videos: very clear concise and easy to follow… Much appreciated. I am doing something that you don’t recommend though: I’ve got a ball head mounted on my dovetail bar. With that I’ll either attach my cropped sensor or full frame DSLR and a relatively lightweight Askar 135 or 180 telescope lens. With heavier lenses for instance the one you were using in one of your videos this would probably be problematic but both ASKAR telescope lenses are quite lightweight. Thoughts? Dziękuję!
A great video. I have a "Beginner" question. Once we establish polar alignment, the tracker should be kept running correct so it maintains alignment? For example, if I shoot the Milky Way and then decide to shoot something else and need to move the camera to the other object, the tracker remains on while I loosen the clutches for the camera mount and Dec bracket?
It doesn’t have to be ON. It only has to be ON when you want to maintain framing for instance when you are framing up your shot before setting up the intervalometer it should already be ON so that your object doesn’t slip away out of frame. But when the tracker is aligned it will keep being aligned even if it’s off and Polaris moves around the polar clock inside the reticle. Is that clear enough? Let me know!

I read that once you find a star near a deep sky object, you can look up the location in Stellarium and also look up the deep sky object location, do the math and move the ascension that many minutes on the polar scope dial, then move the declination fine tune the calculated degrees and you should be on the desired object. Does this work? (ie. star =1 hour 55 minutes, object = 2 hours 35 minutes so move so dial on polar scope moves 40 minutes clockwise; 63 degrees verses 61 degrees, so move fine tune knob to turn camera 2 degrees to the left.)
Hmm maybe with some trackers it might work for I have never done that and I the Star Adventurer doesn’t have any angular scalr on the RA or Dec axes. You’d have to eyeball it and I don’t think it would be precise enough. Cool insight though, thanks!

Brilliant tutorials . Please can I ask a question. I've been using my star adventurer for a little while now but with shorter focal lengths to try and ensure I'm polar aligning correctly, I'm now wanting to to start using my larger lens with the dovetail bracket. I didn't realise you could use the arrow buttons to fine tune your composition when using a big lens.. but would using them, not change your polar alignment if they are moving the mount ? Or would you polar align afterwards? But then the reticle would not be the right way up to be able to polar align. sorry im a little confused. Thanks

Zdarza się tak niestety. Warto czasem po ustawieniu wszystkiego zrobić jedną klatkę, zgrać na komputer czy telefon, zaimportować do Lightrooma i dać dehaze na 100 i kontrast na 100 i zobaczyć czy „coś tam jest”. Bo tak to kiepsko zbierać materiał przez 2 godziny albo dłużej, żeby potem się okazało, że było źle wykadrowane 😟

I just discovered your channel and have been binge watching. Thanks for making great clear videos.I have one question and maybe you can provide some feedback. When camera is mounted and you want to do re-polar alignment (assuming something moved slightly), I know you can see through polar scope in the middle through Declination bracket. But since Sky Watcher doesn't have inbuilt light, how do you achieve it in field in the night? Are the rings visible without light in the dark?
Thanks! I’m glad to hear that 😊 and to answer your question - yes the rings inside the scope are visible without the illuminator. They are very dim and hard to see at first but if you look through the scope for a while your eyes would adapt and you’ll be able to see them faintly. Otherwise just hold the red illuminator with your hand close to the end of the scope and it will cast some light on it. It’s not the most convenient thing to do but it’s doable!

@@kamilkp The SA ships with a small plastic adapter that mounts in the slot in Dec bracket and receives the illuminator. Not great solution but beats the handheld.

You can have it either way but if you have it off then once you frame your target it will immediatelly start to slip off your field of view. Better to work with a turned on tracker at this point
After you adjust your camera to pinpoint on the constellation you want, wouldn’t you have to check/adjust your balance again?
Actually yes. The balance might get off doing that but only a little bit really - but yeah it’s a good idea to check the balance. In fact this is one of 4 things I forgot to mention in the video and I’ll wrap them up and talk about them in the next one next week. Stay tuned 😊

However I'm getting very confused about something, that you might be able to clear up. So at 13:40 you are talking about how you can point the camera lens in any direction by twisting the dovetail where the L-bracket is fastened and the place where the camera is fastened.
What confuses me is how the tracking still works. If the whole mount is pointed at Polaris and rotating, wouldn't pointing the camera into the other direction break the tracking? Maybe it's just hard to make sense of when imagining it in my head.
Thanks Jules! Well to be honest I was confused about the exact same thing when I was starting out with equatorial mounts for astrophotography. There are are a few things that come into play here but it boils down to the fact that every spot in the sky „seems” to move in a circle around celestial poles. So if the camera rotates in the opposite direction than any point would seem stationary with regards to the camera. I will actually be making a video about this - why do trackers like these even work - so good thing that you’ve subscribed 😉
Please explain what is the 'SNAP' hole, the autoguider port, and USB port. I'm guessing the USB port is for an external battery or connect to a laptop? Can you show all these things to more thoroughly cover all the features? Also some instructions say you have to input your local time? Thank you.
Most of this stuff is written in the manual. The point of my videos is not to be a 100% video coverage of the manual but rather to point out some practical tips and things that were left out from the manual. SNAP is to connect a shutter release cable, USB to optionally provide power from a powerbank and autoguider - to connect an autoguider (camera and software co correct for any tracking imperfections)

HI - Great set off videos , really are. Just starting off - have a Sky Adventurer/ 5Dmk4 , is there a clip on light pollution filter I can use for this camera?
I'm glad you like them 😊 I use the CLS filter from Astronomik. They do have a version for full frame DSLRs, but it appears the 5D mk 4 is not supported 🙁. You can check out the details here: www.astronomik.com/en/clip-filter-fur-canon-vollformat.html I know that "Optolong" also makes good filters - check out what they have to offer - but I don't have any personal experience with them.

I don’t have personal experience with that but it’s generally not recommended. However if you balance it perfectly - it should track accurately

Absolutely! The 200mm on a full frame would require some cropping for targets like Andromeda but for Orion now in the fall/winter it should be awesome. I envy you the ability to shoot at f/2.8 !

I’m using an external intervalometer plugged straight into the camera. I don’t think there is any difference but honestly I never tried doing it through the tracker.
A question, when balancing the camera and counter weight, it always wants to be horizontal, no matter what I do, is this normal?

Hi Kamil, thanks for the really informative videos! I've got one potentially silly question. When you've framed up your DSO with the camera and are ready to shoot, should the main clutch be fully tightened, slightly loose or completely loose? I would've thought if it was fully tight then the motor wouldn't be able to turn the setup, but if it's completely loose then wouldn't wind/slight imbalances in the setup cause it all to drift??
Thanks! It needs to be fully tightened - the clutch is used to sort of detach it from the motor. It’s like a clutch in your car, if you press the pedal then the wheels can rotate freely independent of the motor, and when you let it go, then the motor can still turn them 😉

Maybe a silly question but after you polar align and then it takes you 10 min to get the camera set up, will the polar alignment not be out of sync?
Not if I leave the tracker running while I set up everything else

Wonderful video Kamil, I just got my SA and anxious to use it this weekend in the Calif Sierras. I know using the wide angle plate and a ball head I can point my camera south while the tracker is polar aligned, but is it possible to do the same thing with DSO that is south in the south? Basically can you shoot an object that is 180 degrees behind the SA?.
Absolutely yes! Just rotate the declination axis 180 degrees and then adjust elevation by rotating the right ascention axis. Try it out and you’ll figure it out in no time!

Yeah it’s definitely counter-intuitive at first so you just have to try it!
Hey Kamil - I to test my SA, I used it for a time lapse of the Moon and a mountian landscape. Ththge results were so so but that was user error on my part, still it was leaning experience. Thanks again for the help and the videos...regards DanC

How can you rotate the axis without loosing the Polaris on the clock of the telescope tracker?
It moves on the polar clock. Around it to be specific. It is to be expected. It doesn’t mean you lose PA

Good morning, if my camera is rotated down to say 6 O clock as the sky watcher rotates won't it be rotating against the movement of the stars as it turns through 360? Does this make sense?
Think of it as if the mount suspends your camera in space disconnected from the rotating earth. Now wherever you point the camera and however you frame your shot it will just stay that way no matter what the earth does
