You have the most amazing instructions. Thank you so much for all of your work to simplify everything.
So glad it helps
Thank you so much Alex. I've waited to buy a NOMAD until an instruction video was uploaded. This is perfect. Thanks again.
Make sure to use that discount code! And enjoy
Thanks for the informative video. I just got my Nomad and really love it. The biggest downside for me is how the laser mount is such that you often have to reposition the camera for the pointer to get through. I think they could have done a better job with that design so that the laser mount is further away from the edge of the device. Other than that, the Nomad looks like a well thought-out device. Can't wait to really try it out.
I really don't mind it. it's a quick twist and spin to get it out of the way.... and then to get it back
with something like the sky watcher... unless you use the dec bracket you completely block the scope when you put you camera on... the nomad is easier in this regard
Of all the videos I have watched concerning the Nomad, yours' by far is the best. The video was straight forward and easy to understand. I am subscribed now.
I appreciate that! Thank you
Well done Alex. A very comprehensive video.
Thank you friend!
Thanks Alex. I got to get one of the Nomads. I like all the improvements.
They're great! Make sure to use that discount code "Alex"
Thank you for this detailed explanation ❤
I'm happy it helps
Fabulous instruction video. Well worth the 25 minutes for this very thorough guide. Thanks! Now all I need is for the cloud cover to move out and I'm off to the races.
Well thank you. Hope the clouds clear
Hi Alex. Just to let you know I used your code when I bought my NOMAD. 👍
GREAT tutorial! Question. What am I reading about the z mount?
Great video Alex. Just used my Nomad last week to Image the Orion Nebula. Thank you for the details on setting up the Nomad!
How'd it go for you? What lens?
My NOMAD is on the way. Am clueless with such set ups, so will be a frequent visitor to your channel once I start on this journey. Thanks!
Sounds great!
Wonderful video! I just bought my nomad a few days ago, and just found your channel!
Hi Alex great videos by the way. I am in the southern hemisphere in Australia just north of Sydney 33 degrees South. Have been playing with my new Nomad and phone mount. I am trying to mix and match some components to decide on a satisfactory mounting arrangement. I use a Nikon D780 full frame with 20 and 50mm f1.8 lenses to track Milky Way. I am currently using a Z mount from MSM as a base(but only in L format) to cut down movement. To this I have an arca swiss clamp to attach the Nomad. To this I have attached a ball head supplied by MSM. My camera sits on top. The phone adaptor seems to lock in with my old iPhone 7 parallel to Nomad so with phone in place I use Photopills spot stars as u suggested to locate the south celestial pole. Currently testing this set up at 1, 2 and 3 minutes. Zoom in at 200% and no trails using either lens. Awesome! Here is a suggestion for those using phone mount, locating South celestial pole involves crouching down and then looking up at 33degree angle so I reversed phone and you can now stand and look down and align with North Celestial pole with the tracker still pointing to the South. Will let u know results.Doing lots of testing. Also I noted you snuck in a Z mount on top of the tracker in the video. Little extras like this can make a big difference. Love your work. Thanks from down under
hi mate, noticed you are based in Australia and hoping you can help answer this. Do you need to rotate the camera to around 1 o'clock to counter the CCW ratation of the Nomad like the old MSM rotator?
Thanks in advance.
Have you seen Nightscspe Images videos on southern hemisphere polar alignment? Really straightforward and no back bending. He is based in central Victoria
Aloha Alex, just received my Nomad. Excellent video on setting it up. I am all set up and hoping to try it out tonight. Mahalo
Hope you get clear skies on the islands! I was able to shoot a few milky ways on kauai
Thank you 👍🏼 much appreciated
I thank you, I bought this with your discount code. Wishing you well.
I have the original MSM. The locking ring/setscew is the thing I'd buy this one for. I've had the ball head unscrew too often, when the weight of the camera/lens was CCW heavy. NOT GOOD. If you tried to tighten the ball head more, the internal gears jumped teeth. I made a "tool" from acrylic that was thin enough to fit between MSM body, and ballhead. Used a holesaw so either side of the tool gripped around disk (pliers like). The tool clamps the disk so I can turn ballhead much tighter without fear of gear damage. Still not perfect. MSM knew they had a problem! They should offer a reasonable price for exchange. I want this one, but don't want to essentially buy the thing twice.
I signed up for your channel because of your thorough tutorials on the MSM, so thanks!
sounds like a good fix
Great video! What gloves were you using?
Hey man, I'm planning to buy a nomad and your video helped alot here, thanks alot mate 🎉
Glad it helped. Make sure to use the code ALEX
Just got the Nomad and your video is very helpful thanks! One question: when I put a V-mount on to the Nomad red plate (like you showed when shooting) it doesn’t seat all the way down. The set screw will make it secure but it is not flat. Will that make the alignment be off ? Thanks !
Hi Alex! I have purchased the MSM Nomad with the MSM Wedge. The problem is that I live at 59˚ N and I have some problems for aligning with Polaris. Do you think the Benro three-axis head you use would be better for the polar alignment? Or I might have the same problem? Thanks for your reply! I hope to see some new videos from you soon, I enjoy them very much! You do a fantastic job!!
Fantastic video!! Thanks so much for sharing!! One quick question, when do you start tracking, as soon as it is alligned?
Thank you! Usually after I get my Camara all set up and double checked alignment.
Thanks for the video. Waiting for the video, how to shoot tracked multi raw pano using Nomad with 50/85/135 mm lens. Curious how Nomad performs. TIA Clear skies! Love from India 🇮🇳🌌
This video goes over that - but I do need to make a new one. ua-cam.com/video/YG2oeb8610w/v-deo.htmlsi=T3sotKTbzcHQZLCu
This is the best video I’ve seen on this subject. Great job! I’ve subscribed, you really know this material and you do a phenomenal job of explaining it to a neophyte like myself. Thanks
Thank you!
Hey Alex I have the previous version. Do u have a video on that one?
ua-cam.com/video/aCm981jGhMA/v-deo.htmlsi=3q7wHsmxOu1frCvL
great video; thanks
Glad you liked it
Good and thorough. Nice!
Think twice before you buy this. I bought it on March 25 and did not receive the goods. The company doesn't even respond to emails
Might seem like a stupid question but when do you actually power on the Nomad?
Thanks for this video! Although i have another make, it is fairly similar to the one you are demonstrating. This was all very helpfull. Tanks big time. +1 subscriber!
Great video Alex. Just got my new Nomad and can’t wait to try it. In the past I’ve taken a dozen shots of the Milky Way and processed them using sequator. You mentioned you took 10 shots of the sky so you’re still stacking them? Would you have to take more than one shot of the Milky Way, once you figure out the right settings? Thanks.
you don't have to, no... but stacking always helps
Awesome video! I have two questions. What is the little round rubber plug on the top of the Nomad? Mine is a bit loose and feels like it could be pulled out. Also, my Nomad's plate does not have a set screw. There is a hole on mine where yours has a set acrew, but it's way too large for a set screw (several times larger), it's a weird (not perfect circle) shape, and has no threads. The photos of the Nomad on MSM's website look like mine, so compare those to yours to see what I'm talking about. Do you know why this is?
The rubber on top is covering a hole that you can make some adjustment to the gears. You should never need to touch this.
As far as the lack of set screw... send an email to support@moveshootmove.com
Thank you Alex. I am purchasing the NOMAD this week. So this may be a silly question but is there an on/off switch on the NOMAD? Also - 35mm....looks like you got a lot in the frame. Can the NOMAD withstand the weight of a 70-200 f2.8? Again, thank you.
Yes and yes. The switch goes between north off and south.
And it can handle a 70-200... maybe not 4 minute exposures, but it can do 30 seconds to 1 minute pretty well
It's funny that you're using the 3 way geared tripod head with your tracker because I've recently thought that using that type of head would be so much quicker than using a wedge that comes with most trackers. I've been using the wedge that came with my Sky Guider Pro, and here in the last couple of days I've considered switching to a 3 way head. I use the laser from MSM with my tracker to polar align and then I lay another laser between the hotshoe rails on my camera to point at what I'm shooting.
Do you like the Benro geared head ??
I love it. It's by far my favorite way to align the nomad

Or buy through move shoot move with thr code alex
Wondering why I cannot save this video to my private folders to reference later?
Not sure
My Nomad arrived yesterday and i started setting it up today. THank you for such a detailed video! QQ - have you used the Nomad with your Olympus OM-d EM1 MK III and the Olympus 300mm lens? I have both and while I don't think the weight should be an issue, I am a little worried about the balance using a longer lens on the Nomad.
I haven't put that lens on it yet but I should. The longest I've tracked with is 200mm ff and it did well
Alex, how do we reach out fora one on one training session by zoom?
Send me an email at chasingluminance@gmail.com
When you finish an alignment to Polaris... how you move camera to the object you want to capture?
Once you move the camera, the Polaris alignment is gone.
I use the ball head on top of the tracker to adjust the orientation of the camera. This does not effect the alignment
Hi, help me what to do if my newly picked up nomad is not moving. The charging diode lights up blue during charging. Regardless of which hemisphere I choose, the tracker stays in place even without load. Can it be reset somehow?
Have you really waited with it running to test it? It's movement is almost unnoticeable without a lot of time passing
Could you use a 135mm lens on nomad.or will it be too heavy
You can for sure
Id like the 1 on 1 zoom class please.
There's links and even discounts in the description
New to astro. I understand why using a tracker requires a separate foreground shot but is it common practice to recompose between foreground and sky?
That's all up to the artist
@@chasingluminancethat's a very useful comment thank you
@Bunter1815 I'm just saying, there's no rules. You can change, you can keep it 100%authentic.
@@chasingluminance yes that's what I understood from your comment so it was appreciated
If you’re just using the ball head, can you still swivel the camera around and have it not lose polar alignment? I never understood how that works with a ball head and moving it around.
Yeah, just loosen the nut that locks in the rotation of the ball head
How do you use that V plate in your setup, towards the end of the video? I find that it’s impossible to use the V plate the way you showed without totally blocking the laser pointer. Did you use the polar scope instead?
You do block the laser... I just twist it counter clockwise until it's no longer blocking the beam... then align .... the rotate it back
Hi Alex, I took the nomad out for the first time tonight to test. I ran into a really annoying issue that I did not have with the MSM rotator. Imagine that you are polar aligned, but in the process of mounting the ballhead on top of the tracker, setting up the camera, etc, you lightly bump the tripod. So you need to realign. but the ballhead/camera is in the way. This would not have happened with the MSM because the laser pointer was positioned on the side of the rotator. Have you run into this? Any advice?
That is a bit annoying. go to the 10:50 minute mark of this video to see how i deal with that. in short, i just spin the camera out of the way, adjust, then spin it back.
Am I correct is stating: MSM or Move Shoot Move is the company name. The Rotator is the original tracker. The Nomad is the new tracker. This gets so confusing when everyone calls it the move shoot move.
Yeah, MSM has come out with several models of tracker. The previous one was the "rotator", this one is the "nomad. I know they're pushing the nomad name pretty hard to try to differentiate them.
My phone adapter does not fit into the phone bracket. Did they change the phone adapters as I bought it about 2 years ago.
Not to my knowledge. Maybe send a few photos of the issue to help@moveshootmove.com and see if they can offer any advice.
Thanks I grounded down the phone adapter lip with my Dremel tool and now it slides right in.
Крутое видео, спасибо!
how do you set 4min exposioure? external controller?
Exactly. Or cell phone app
By the way I ordered MSM unit today and used your discount code
Awesome, hope you enjoy it!
@@chasingluminance when I get it. I will give it a try. What other star tracker do you have. This will be my first tracker. After I have time to play with it I will upgrade to another one
@@shupingyin8082 ua-cam.com/video/X-mUBHFsD0U/v-deo.htmlsi=zi63V5h-cb-FB2wM
@@chasingluminance I watched that one already.
@shupingyin8082 those are the ones I have... I've used others but haven't bought em yet
will this be good for a telescope that weighs 2kg-3kgs?
It's not great for telescopes... it can work but I'd recommend a bigger tracker
I suggest you get a better understanding of ISO with RAW files if you want to teach. ISO matters what you see on the screen in the field, but you are not altering what is captured.
that is incorrect. changing iso changes the voltages in capture. higher iso creates more noise.
@@tomingrassiaimages8776 There are only one or two voltage levels. The max volatage level on Sony high end is at either 320 or 640 ISO.
