This track inspired me ten years ago so powerfully I became a lap steel guitar maker. I simply can't believe after all this time one of my instruments is now actually going to Thomas next week in New Zealand. Thank you Thomas for your music and kind spirit. And for everyone who loves slide steels like I do. Best wishes to everyone.
I've been playing guitar for more than 50 years, and this is one of the most beautiful renditions I've ever heard. If people don't think slide guitar is serious instrument, they need to hear this!
My husband & I played this at our wedding as we signed the wedding certificate. The younger half of the room loved it because they were familiar with it, and the older half of the room loved it because it's so hauntingly beautiful. Definitely one of the best decisions we've made.
When i married my wife, i asked for her ages if we could have this song at our wedding. She kept refusing as she didnt want a film song, especially not jurrasic park. When we signed the documents it started playing and it made me really happy! Love uh... finds a way
I still can't get over how gracefully the first film ages. I think the first REALLY nailed the mix of animatronic and computer generated effects. I enjoy 'Jurassic World' and I'm glad kids this generation have their dinosaur film to claim as their own. Just like Star Wars, 'Jurassic' is generational and that's a beautiful thing. Thank you for uploading this amazing rendition of the classic theme.
In that case, I'm sorry for the kids of this generation, because Jurassic World was terrible. Even the effects looked worse than they did 20+ years ago - how does that happen?
I wouldn't really compare it like that. Star Wars 1-2-3 are side stories to the original story, 1 should actually be excluded as it's pretty much pointless to the overall picture. Watching the prequels before the original 3 as a first time Star Wars watcher would ruin all surprises
My girlfriend had never seen Star Wars before, and I showed it to her in order 1 through IV. She was shocked in Ep 3 and it changed the OT in interesting ways. She wondered why Obi-Wan was being so cagey about Luke's father and was amused that Luke and Leia were oblivious to each other. Also, when Darth Vader told Luke that he was his father, she was shocked. She had no idea what would happen next, and because she had no idea how the trilogy would end, she seriously thought that Luke would turn to the Dark Side in Return of the Jedi. She enjoyed the movies.
When I was 13 I was obsessed with dinosaurs and anything related, so when I discovered this video, it became one of those videos I came back to from time to time. I am 20 years old now, and my dinosaur obsession as longs since passed, and I now find myself sitting up against a tree in tears at the sound of him striking the first note on that guitar. It instantly brought back my happy memories as a child loving dinosaurs and remembering the time I used to go by PaleoArtKid54! Within a second I started crying. That’s how special this video is to me.
For me what's so beautiful and genius about this theme is what it communicates. To me it's melancholy, a bit sad, because it somehow communicates what the island could have been. The purity and joy of the original idea. Like Icarus, John Hammond in the story reached for the stars and burned but if only...If only...This time we'll do it right....
Aiden Walker Well, technically he's right. Jurassic Park 4 will never come out. Jurassic World on the other hand, is slated for release in the not too distant future :P
Aiden Walker Well it doesn't fit the style of Jurassic Park. Too much sliding that I just don't think will work in any type of scenario for the movie. It's a great rework of the theme though I must say.
This video demonstrates two things very beautifully: 1. Mr. Thomas Oliver is one of the best musicians around. 2. John Williams is one of the best composers around.
Thats funny since Michael Crichton basically rewrote his previous novel Westworld when he wrote Jurassic Park. Save the theme (Androids/Dinos) its virtually the same basic story. Hey, it works.
1:52 is killing me! I've listened to this probably 50 times now! I LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE this performance! So killer how everything comes together in it! Absolutely beautiful!!!!
For those asking about the arrangement he's playing in an Open E tuning that's tuned half step down and the song is played in the key of E flat. Took me a couplehours to learn this tune it's one of the best slide covers I've came across yet. U done good Thomas
As a guitar player and avid Jurassic park fan, this almost brought me to tears of joy. Great job taking a classic and making it into your own unique style.
Rabbits2Fertilizer glad I'm not the only musician/music lover that gets that uncontrollable welled up feeling inside when a particular set of notes are played in a particular order. I'm a big fan of finger style, and this, along with the slide just tickled me. :)
those 5 minutes and 52 seconds felt like an hour. you really felt each and every single cord. This is literally the definition of playing with passion.
The first Jurassic Park takes me back to my childhood like no other movie. It is the perfect mixture of adventure, sci fi, survival horror and pure wonderment. Listening to this theme gets me misty :)
I genuinely think this is the greatest piece of cinema music ever recorded. It's romantic, cautious, and meticulous. A herlad to the fact that nature is os out of our favor and power.
This is hands down my favorite version of this song. I love the slower pace because, I feel, it invokes a deeper sence of wonder that the original does with a full orchestra.
@Freddy - The Great Affiliate IIRC it was from Easyriders and also used in the South Park episode Sexual Harassment Panda. LOL here's a link to a scene of interest in the latter: ua-cam.com/video/AcptkEABHzQ/v-deo.html
When I die, and my spirit leaves my body, it doesn't matter how awesome my life is or how many family members and loved ones are surrounding my body begging me to come back. If I see a light, and this song is playing, I'm taking my shit and leaving.

I love this rendition! It captures the essence so beautifully! This is my favorite John Williams composition. Sure, Star Wars and Indiana Jones are ICONIC, and he’s done so many fantastic movie themes, but this hits different. I hear the wonder, the scope, the optimism, and the impending adventure. Absolutely beautiful. One of the many scores that stuck with my head over the years. This movie came out during a very emotional time of my life. It was the perfect medicine that I needed
Imagine if the third Jurassic World is the actual last Jurassic film and there is never another one made and they end it with this rendition of the theme. Would be amazing
it'll be the last movie and should... All I can say is you're right, this song SHOULD be the credits or outro, but sadly likely isn't. We don't crowd source these things, Hollywood has to have full production control for licensing rights purposes... I intend to go see it this weekend... can't wait. But I am even more excited for my kids to get a couple years older so we can watch them all together. JP and BTTF were my favorite movie franchises growing up. It seems that BTTF is safe from reboot, thankfully. Jurassic World is just for entertainment purposes, these movies do nothing in terms of new territory, but rather just extrapolate the expected outcomes of neo-fascist capitalism + Dinosaurs, i.e. hybridizing them to be used as weapons. (judgment on JW3 withheld, but not holding my breath). I know the movies aren't that great (except the original) and the science has ridiculous flaws, but the books were the first real adult novels I read and was captivated by Crichton's writing. I hope the final movie provides a catharsis to the existential/metaphysical/ethical issues that the books are acclaimed for.
So very beautiful. So unique; I mean, it’s been so long, and to hear this sort of a stringed instrument, beautiful peace. Thank you for uploading this video and rendition, Sir, and thank you UA-cam and its creators too.
