Cowsills w/Johnny Cash (Improved Quality!)
Вставка
- Опубліковано 29 жов 2019
- Here are The Cowsills on The Johnny Cash Show in 1969, one of their very first tv appearances without founding member and oldest brother, Bill Cowsill who had been forced out of the band by their father, Bud Cowsill after a dispute that arose between the two after a family band performance at a gig.
I've taken a version of the Johnny Cash appearance and was able to fix the color and improve the picture quality (a must for all of us Cowsills fans) to being somewhat above the quality of the previous copies of this appearance already posted online.
"The most talented family I ever met and I mean that"...Johnny Cash
High praise from Johnny Cash!
the older i get the more i appreciate the Cowsills

@@mikehutchings1567 Mike, THAT is a unique GOOD. Thank yoU for sharing!
A few Cowsills are still touring on the Happy Together Tour!
Ah got to meet them after a one off Cowsill concert. REAL people...and they sound GREAT. Truly
@@jeffreyfeinstein5525 that would be great to see. it was a jolt when Susan died, she lived in Austin, and I heard about it at the Saxon Pub
Pick up an old Websters dictionary and look up the word "groovy." Somehow you'll find a GIF of Susan Cowsill dancing.
💯 agree. My idol. Always wanted to dance like her.
That is still true !❤️🇺🇸❤️😀
Susan moves with such fluidity and flow. Her timing is perfect. She is a natural.
Takes some chutzpah to get out in front like that and dance!
She was So cute!
@@finallythere100 It just takes talent and Susan was very talented. The dance is called the Funky Broadway.
I was just thinking the same thing. She has great natural rhythm.
I agree 100%……;)
Their rendition of "Monday Monday" was spot on and as every bit as good as the original.
That’s an insane harmony and that’s definitely live
They were an incredibly talented family.
I agree with you Ralph!
But they couldn't write, everything they did was covers or written for them by writers, hence why they were just a novelty act.
@@greatunz67That's false. Check the writing credits on their albums. They wrote a lot of the songs they recorded.
Susan sure knew how to get into a song. Love it!
I've seen a clip on UA-cam, probably from Mike Douglas or Merv Grifffin with the band playing and Susan on bass. She was really getting into it. Dancing and having a great time!
Susan is so talented even at that age
They sure don't make em like that anymore! Good looking , incredibly talented singers , and musicians. Who deserved so much more than the piece if trash father they had who spent all of their money , and treated them like pure refuse. I almost go to tears when I watched the documentary of this awe inspiring bunch , and their line of incredible memorable hits. I sure hope they had SOME love , and peace in their childhoods. They so earned it .
Bob was great as the front man, but in my eyes, Billy Cowsill was the heart & soul of the family... Nobody came close to his voice & stage presence!!! The father made a huge mistake, (one of very many) when he kicked Billy out of the band, that had to be so heartbreaking for Billy, I'm sure... In Canada, Billy founded a band called, *THE CO-DEPENDENTS*, wow, his music has ya dancing & feeling soooo happy, especially a great song called, *HONEY DON'T*... Billy Cowsill R.I.P. thanks for all the memories & music, you are not forgotten, keep rockin' up in heaven man, you were one of the best & that is a true fact!!!!!
Bill Cowsill is likely the most under-rated singer of the 60's. His vocals were absolutely amazing. Bob once admitted that the group had lost its powerhouse lead singer when Bill was forced out. But as performers, I think Bob, John and Barry saw Bill's departure as a chance to take the spotlight much more often as lead singers, so that they could have had mixed emotions over Billy leaving the group. But no one can deny Bob's own wonderful vocal talent. As the oldest brother in the band, after Bill left, I believe it was thanks to Bob that The Cowsills remained in show business and are stil going strong, with each other family member, of course, being so very talented in their own right.
My childhood. I remember them fondly, they had a really nice sound. Unfortunate about their Dad being a controlling monster to them, kind of like what happened with the Beach Boys.
Yes, very similar.
Susan was just a great little dancer/ performer
She can definitely work the camera.
All the dance ''moves'' of the 60s -- she did them so well!
STILL IS!!!
diggin Susan rocking it out
She's still at it, right here in New Orleans.
I could watch Susan dancing for hours!
take it easy skippy
@@DeeDee-dd4kk ha ha, I know right. Gezzz whiz, she just 9 here.
I think she inspired the performance of the girl in " A Mighty Wind" - lotta fun
@alphonsocarioti512 I love watching her dance too!
WOW! Their harmonies are on point. And Susan is just a natural entertainer, I saw her in another video singing “When I’m 64”. Great voice.
I love Susan's dancing!
Yeah, Susan could really dance!
@@tamjac10 Or "cut a rug"... I wonder if she still does this...
Think Bob Cowsill did a fabulous job of taking the lead. ( : Just love Johnny Cash. I was blessed enough to meet him when I was 12. "Mr. Cash may I have your autograph? Well....sure son!" ( :
Yes, Bob Cowsill was a good leader after Bill left. Thise were some big shoes to have to follow. Meeting Johnny Cash at 12 is extremely cool. A friend of mine waited for Buddy Rich to arrive at a local gig and when Buddy finally came-a-walkin', my friend , then a budding 12 year old drummer, said, "Mr. Rich, I'm such a big fan of yours. May I have your autograph?" Buddy Rich literally pushed him and said, "Get outta my way, kid." In a moment, as the boy stood there stunned, Buddy walked back to the boy from the front door of the venue, grabbed the album cover out of the boy's hands and in a huff, he signed it and walked off. I'm guessing your experience was tad more pleasant. haha That boy, now a man, still cherishes the moment.
I was 12 also when the Cowsills were popular. I'm surprised Johnny Cash had them on his show.
He really was a great person. I met him in Austin Texas, I was playing a show with my band at the time, and we stopped to eat at a diner when we got in, and he was at that diner, I was able to get my Johnny Cash shirt signed, I couldn't pull it out of my luggage fast enough. He saw us and said you guys play that real heavy stuff right? I said yes sir, how do you know? He said you guys look like y'all play heavy stuff. I said we sure do. He said well go get em. Y'all have a good show. It was one of the most memorable celebrity meetings I've ever been a part of, they say you shouldn't meet your heroes because sometimes they're not good people, but he was definitely a good person.
What a great gospel sound with Johnny and Cowsill family. God bless all.
Great cover of Monday, Monday. One of the most talented family groups ever!!!.
I bet the Mama's and Papa's were saying look at this family group covering our hit song almost as good as us.
I had such a crush in 1967 for Susan. Now, 67 years old and there she is.....
and Johnny Cash sure had a beautifully distinct singing voice.
His mic always had compression.
Susan was a trip LUV her
Susan dancing made the video even better. She is 3 years older than me and I remember thinking she's a cutie.
What an amzing talented family. Still are as well.
3 left 😩
Great duet with Johnny Cash & The Cowsills this video shows the versatility and talent of all the artists
Whose idea was it to cover this song? A surprisingly credible rendition - superb vocals, and Susan - there are no words.
Johnny Cash and other country and gospel stars love performing that song. It was peformed here most likey at Johnny Cash's suggestion. The Cowsills are quite a family. They can cover many styles well, just like the Cash/Carter Family.
The Cowsills are Catholic, so a gospel song mentioning the Virgin Mary would pass muster.
That duet with Johnny was a challenging song and they nailed it!
They really did!
Amazing 👏👏👏🙌
That thing they did with Johnny Cash is great. Words fail me.
Really good interaction between all of the singers.
They were and still are awesome singers ! So happy when I hear them on You Tube !
"THEY"
Theirs Only 3 LEFT
Most on that stage are dead now.
2022 and still enjoying them especially Susan moving so effortlessly. The harmonies were so tight.
@Dora Tiscarano. Four left. John is the longtime drummer of the Beachboys.
Amazing. I'm guessing this was filmed live and doing so without any mistakes is incredible. What talent. My foot was tapping all the way through. Try doing that with today's music.
The Cowsills came along when guitar rock, hippies, drugs, free sex and social change were going big. Much of their music and. similar bubble gum music went unnoticed because of the never-heard-before coliseum loud rock bands had become popular. The shock of the Charles Manson murders numbed such hard rock, including Led Zeppelin, for about 3 years giving very lite rockers a chance to blossom. But I guess that didn't help the Cowsills after their shake-up because they never made a come back after their dad-son fight. Just the TV series fashioned after them, though, was a giant success
Susan was definitely precocious.
I fell in LOVE with the COWSILLS 1969 I was 10! This may be the moment!!!! ❤❤❤❤❤❤
Same here. I got to see The Cowsills onstage in 1968 and 1969. I was around 12. Susan loved hearing about it when I met her a few years ago after one her solo gigs. She treated me like we'd been friends for many years... she was warm, very funny and she's just a super nice person, even cuter now than back then.
For me it was 1968 when I first heard Indian Lake!
This talented family rules!!!
They harmonize as good as any of the a like groups of those days and more so now.
This blows me away! Two perfect live performances! They were wonderful!
This song has the proverbial, memorable, hook that all great songs have. I didn't know Cowsills music but I heard it on the radio decades ago as just another radio song. When I heard the opening my memory of it all immediately came back. One of the classics.
There is no doubt that the 60s were real great golden music. I was then 6 yeard old and it reminds me my sweet parents in those times.
Gotta ❤️ the Cowsills!
HOLY SHIT!!! it doesn't get any better than this!! Good lord! thank you for this amazing post!
Glad you liked it. I had found this clip on an old CD-R and I used the VLC Media Player (free download) to fix the color and to sharpen the image, which sharpened much better during playback than I'd have ever expected. So I eq'd the sound and recorded that improved image & sound using Windows 10 Game Recorder to preserve the quality and sent that recording up here.
5:17 Paul's voice is awesome! ❤❤
I really like them. I can't believe I never heard of them before. I got alot of catching up to do lol.
Love to watch Barry dance. What a cutie.
I ❤️ the Cowsills! Then & now!
It was sad to here about Barry. RIP Barry
Remember when Johnny Cash first tried to get into the music biz that the record industry turned him down because he wanted to sing gospel songs. The Cowsills faced one similar editing when they made reference to Jesus in one of their songs. But I probably don't have all the details straight.
They were Catholic, and I think on one of their albums they did a song called The Prophesy of St John the Divine.
2022-10-29 still listening to it!
And in your future: 2023-09-19 , we watch and still enjoy 😊
I love the combination of Cash's deep voice and The Cowsills higher sound. Great share, love the video too.
Yes, the contrast in voices makes a really nice sound.
3:16 - Wow! Compared to the Carter Family? That's HIGH praise coming from Johnny Cash. I believe! ( P.S. - THANK YOU for uploading this video...it's a great slice of the Cowsills' talent and the one with Cash is a very fun collaboration. )
I agree!
Honestly, I think this version is as good, if not better than the original.
Sorry, good, but not better...
Thank you. Thank you. Thank you! It's great to have a version where the faces aren't just blurry blobs.
Such wonderful talents! Love Mr. Johnny Cash and The Cowsills. I think Barry is SO CUTE! R.I.P!

Johnny says they are the most talented family he ever knew? His wife is June Carter of the Carter Family.
Great vocalization/// super !!! Great group 😊
susan sure was a rocker
Love Johnny's work and love the Cowsills' work too.
Precious ,wonderful.
Thank you for fixing this video! i just love it! Brings back so many memories!
I saw this back in 1968 or 69 and I still remember this song. I'm the same age as Susan and had a crush on her
Barry was a good looking son
That was real good. ❤
A few of them have a hypnotic spell
Great Clip ! Thanks for posting !
You're welcome. Glad u liked it.
Happy sad, can't help but smile when they perform, somewhat saddened by the path their career and lives took.
Beautiful music i just found ❤
I'm gonna slide to the mama and the Papas for this song but only on a very Very close one because the cowsills really nailed Monday Monday outstanding ❤️ also I really admire how they're not afraid to go outside the norms! Very well engineered and produced 👍😊
Honestly , this was so well performed I thought they had recorded the hit !
strange memories ....
This was like the real partridge family huh? Before my time, I was born in 78.
Many people don't know this, but the original name of this group was The Cowpies, but they quickly changed it to The Cowsills for obvious and understandable reasons. True story...
Very funny
Not
Groovy man ✌🏼
I always loved them and when I think of the dancing styles of the 60's, no one came close to perfecting it like Susan. She was ( is ) amazing.
Look up a UA-cam channel called Louise Palanker. She made the documentary, Family Band. There is a clip about 20 minutes long with the siblings talking about one another. Susan says she was shocked at about age 8 when told brother Richard was going to teach her dance moves. She said she learned them and still uses them.
@@vilstef6988 I saw a documentary but maybe not that one. I'll check it out. Thank you.
I did see that documentary but I missed that part I guess. Interesting. I just thought she was a natural. So cute on stage.
@David Pellegrene, the segment on the channel I çited might be an outtake. Louise is the film maker of the documentary, and the approximately 20 minute segment with the sibs names on it is probably where it is from. Susan tells the story on herself.
@@vilstef6988 That's great. Thank you.

I met Susan a few summers ago after one of her solo gigs. Your description of her is perfect!
Susan is keeping it all together in those purple pajamas.
According to Susan, Richard was the one who taught her all her dance moves.
I love the addition of Paul, but missing Bill. 😢
Awesome.
Awesomeness
The Cowsills had faded from the limelight by the time I was old enough to understand the world around me, but I remember my two older brothers being in absolute love with Susan Cowsill!
People honored the Lord back then. Be fearful for this nation now.
people who know, still honor the Lord. music, real music was created by HIM.
Many people still honor Him, but it isn't permitted to be shown it on T.V. by those who don't.
There is no lord. It's all a fairytale.
