You forgot to mention one change: opening the menu and pressing R will show available songs, including which ones are active and which are running out.
Almost 2 years later I'm still hooked on Hunting Horn, and this is the video that started it. Now I main it in all MH games I play. I even went all the way back to MHFU (my first MH game) and started a HH only playthrough. Thank you for opening my eyes, Gaijin! Ps: I recently took the time to learn how to create the purrfect Prowler using your videos as well. I can't thank you enough for everything you do for this community.
@@sushirofl516 if you haven't played it before, I'd say guild style to learn the weapon's general moveset first. With that it should be easier to pick it up in other MH games as well. After that just try different styles and see what you like. I personally like valor stlye because you have access to all moves through valor stance plus you have a defensive option with the auto dodge. (You can use absolute evasion/readiness for that as well but they are not always available)
@@lightbrand_ yeah it's painful if you're used to the new versions ^^' and without horn maestro it feels like the songs only last for 10 seconds. I just tried to keep self improvement active at all times and use other songs only before entering the area the monster was in.
@@TheKampfmaschine yeah I guess that’s what you’re supposed to do, but I think it makes it lose its charm as playing music and hitting the monster at the same time is what makes HH cool to me
I have found something that has changed me as a Hunting Horn Main forever. To see your melodies activation, press the + button, then the R button. This will pop up a “secret menu” that shows ALL your melodies on that horn. To tell the difference, grey is not active, white is normal, and yellow is encored. I’ve been trying to find a menu like this forever and now I feel more confident to play Horn with or without other people. Please check out Horn if you ever feel like playing it, but don’t like the lack of sheet music… but I sorta feel like an idiot for not seeing this a few years back… also this might be a thing in all monster hunter games from 2 and beyond.
It seems some of the "new" hh moves in mh rise are coming from adept and valor style from mhgu so it's time to go back to these awesome guides as I want to use the hh in rise :-)
I think I'm the one guy who would play Striker HH just so I could use second gen moveset. A lot of people seem to hate it but I love it, and not having to go into Recital Mode is an added bonus.
Late, but holding R and mashing Y during an evade in Alchemy Style allows you to instantly pull out the Alchemy Barrel, skipping the sheathing animation (guns have to fire a shot 1st tho), just in case you haven't already covered this somewhere.
After seeing that MH Rise was coming to all platforms, I decided to head back to MHGU for a nostalgia trip... and veer off bow spamming lol. Love the guide quite a bit, and even though I absolutely suck with clunkiness of old MHGU HH (but love it in MHW:I and MH Rise), I still wanna doot away and get outta my comfort zone. It's also interesting to see some of these arts are incorporated into the base movesets of HHs in Rise, making the HH more of a joy to use in GU.
I use it almost exclusively in World, but never really tried it in the other games. Super keen to go back to Ultimate with the knowledge I have now :D!
been rewatching these guides because they are great content and im starting to get back into GU, ive got to say the screaming of that stone horn is ungodly
I finally got my hands on a switch and this game. I was wondering if the motion values for valor recital and encore were known. As a side note, I’ve loved your videos for years and appreciated all the heart that goes into them
Oh my god the Valor Recitals. I was actually attracted to Adept and Valor Hammer because of the stylish spinning slams, and I think this is grabbing me in the same way...
A friend of mine who mains support/healer in basically every other game got into MH with World. I told him I was a bit surprised to see him not playing Horn since it's everything he usually likes in a playstyle and he responded "I considered it but I want to actually do damage" Oh, that sweet summer child...

Am I doing something wrong? My hh does over 300 units of raw damage, but I can't quite seem to kill any of the g rank monsters with it without timing out, can't even get them to limp, is the hunting horn really weak solo or something?
Amazing video, really helped me to re validate myself as a hunting horn main and further my understanding of the weapon, however I was a little curious about one thing. What are the motion values for the valor style performance and encore?
Really enjoyed HH so far ... But let me guess there is no way to see all possible song combinations on screen like you could on the 2nd screen of the 3ds right ?
i'm having a really hard time climbing out of low rank in MHGU i just can't decide what weapon to main, i keep switching from GS to CB to SNS to IG but i think after seeing this i'll main HH. it worked for me in World so i think it will work here. Look out G-rank here i come again! and the are no Apex's to slow me down this time!
Dunno about 3rd and 4th gen, but Striker HH has the same moveset as the one in MHFU. I personally play it because it's the HH I'm accustomed to so it is kinda sad that the hunting arts are kinda lackluster
