If you think 10.5L is poor...they said they averaged 13L😱😱😱. For a 2Ltr engine...terrible. considering Jeep wranger with a 3.6L V6 averages about 15L. Makes you wander why manufacturers believe in small engines.

I've had the Tank 300 petrol ultra for a year now, It's one of the best cars I've ever driven. The downside is the fuel consumption and the ELK keeps turning on everytime I get into the car (which I understand is a feautre in all new cars). The indicator stock can be annoying at first but you get a feel for it after while. With regards to quality my right rear tyre pressure keeps decreasing slightly faster than the other tyres. Not sure if it's a GWM thing or a tyre thing, haven't had time tot get it checked out as I live in remote WA. Early on I had some rocks lodged from trucks crack the top surface of my windshiled. Had it replaced with RAC. As for everything else it's been perfect. I've done over 15K and most of it is long distance on crappy country roads with some city driving and beach dune off roading. It's extremely smooth, extremely comfortable and enjoy getting in everytime. It's my meditation machine. Happy with my purchase so far. Will update this comment in another year.

Have put 3500km on mine since November. Apart from Lane assist which is dreadful it's a 10/10 car for me. Like you I get people coming up to me to ask what it is and have a look inside. Oh yeah Fuel economy is indeed average but it's only 91 unleaded. Also I approached GWM and they do not recommend E10. Drive one you'll be surprised.

Hi Sam, that is real world testing of a vehicle purely designed for what you're putting it thru, family, country roads, city, but then truly off road capable as that location obviously is.
I know the area you're testing it in well, challenges can be a big enough challenge to stop a Hilux (needed winching) when conditions aren't good, but the
Tank is so designed for that stuff.
I'm so friggin envious of you going there in this Toy, loved taking my Sierra (toy) there when it was a real challenge prior to 2019 fires that resulted in long overdue track maintenance.
Please, a query for you to follow up.
    There is a mode "Pothole"
Can you please demonstrate it's benefit as apparently it recalibrates traction control to catch wheel spin off road.
Love to see if it's relevant.
    Thanks for review.

unfortunately this lane keep assist thing seems to be there because the manufacturer wants the 5 stars, even though is is crap in almost all vehicles I have seen reviewed. Hopefully the powers that be see sense. By the way, my 2022 MG zs ev has it, but the dealer turned it off before I even drove it out of the showroom! and it has stayed off ever since, cannot do that anymore with newer cars, have to turn it off every time you start it up.

This isn't correct. Audible alerts are not mandated by Euro NCAP for lane keeping, speed and driver attention monitoring - and a 5* Euro NCAP is usually the rating they long for. No Euro car suffers from these insane audible alerts. Also - Teslas, you can disable them - and they stay off upon a restart.
So, at the very least, they should allow to re-program the defaults.

Don't pin your hopes on GWM updating the ELK software. I've had my H6GT for nearly 2 years, the elk and cruise control are horrendous, but GWM refuse to do anything about it, and it can't be overstated just how bad (bordering on dangerous) the system actually is. The newer models don't have the same issues, but they won't backdate any fixes. Once they've got your money, You're stuck with whatever you bought, and they're not even shy about telling you as much 🤷🏻‍♂️

Purely because it's of zero relevance to the driving he's doing, or ever likely to do primarily because he's not likely to ever need to brake as tested. Can you tell me anytime you've braked full pedal force at 100 kilometres an hour, I'd be inclined to say never myself, nor am I ever likely to. Should I ever be in that circumstance I've done something tremendously wrong as a driver and all wheels are likely to be be pointing skywards, 😢.
The only scenario I can anticipate such braking force requirement is a Roo bouncing out from behind a shrub, certainly brake to wash off intensity of strike but do yes do hit the bloody thing, do not swerve as swerving at 100 will see the Roo hop off and you slung upside down in your seat belt, vehicle on the shiny roof rails with 4 wheels pointing skywards.
You do know those tests are done to demonstrate stopping distance and if you watched the test you'd be very aware the recorded stopping distance was as good or better than others in class that retained all four wheels on the ground.
It clearly demonstrates a manufacturer has placed calipers, pads, rotors, and tyres of a quality beyond others in my eyes, all working brilliantly.
You need to realise, the brakes on this vehicle also stop the more weighty hybrid version, so they needed to be good. The suspension is the issue, not the brakes and it will be reviewed, but buyers will be fitting aftermarket suspension and all resolved.
You watch and take "know it all John" too seriously, purely because he takes himself seriously, I know better than to take much of what he says seriously. Has he ever said any vehicle is the ultimate vehicle, no, but his views on flaws are too overbearing also.
Now test drive one and tell me it's a flaw, you'll never detect an issue with daily driving.

@@ianweal3081 so you’ve never had to emergency brake ? You must have received your license 6 months ago if thats the case. Everyone at some point has to emergency brake, be it to avoid an animal, another vehicle, a child.
Car expert and driving expert channels both reported the rear wheels leaving the tarmac issue. JC explained the repercussions of such a thing in a real world scenario.
Rear wheels leaving the ground suggests the suspension geometry is stuffed, imagine having to brake sharply rounding a corner and have the backend step out when the rear wheels leave the tarmac, you’ll be speering off into the nearest tree.
It points to a distinct lack of engineering and a rush job by GWM. Lets not mention the brand new Junk 300 having complete loss of power over on the driving expert YT channel and getting taken away by GWM on a flatbed with GWM completely silent on the issue.
By all means if you have spent your hard earned on one (which by the sounds of it, you have) then go and enjoy it but dont for one second think that this particular vehicle doesnt have a huge raft of issues that could prove deadly.

I think I've clarified I'm experienced enough, but at no time have I ever braked full force on pedal from 100 and at no time from the past have I been in a vehicle as comprehensive as the Tank, technology has come a long long way in my time.
Thanks for good wishes, right back at you also, stay safe out there.

Not sure I believe this reviewer has actually driven this car all that much. The cup holders are terrible and you can't fit two coffees side by side.

@@Drivecomau Hi Sam, you mentioned the cup holder were good in your review. There are a lot of people complaining about the cup holders on the forums/Facebook groups. People joke they're a bit of an afterthought. You also switched between saying you'd done 2,000km and 3,000km over the review.

Like this vehicle but ELK, phone reception issues and fuel consumption figures just make it a no go for me. Also its been reported on the forums that the latest software update is bricking vehicles. Bring in a Diesel and sort the software.

Diesels are a dyeing breed. With petrol turbo’s they are starting to get some great power figures and torque. No chance I’ll go back to diesel. Last 4 4wd’s have been petrol. Zero issues

Jesus Christ what a weak vanilla review. The biggest issues you raised were the carpet mats. If anyone actually used the car the way you’ve used it (fully loaded with 5 passengers), they would be driving it overloaded and uninsured, and forget towing anything! This vehicle can’t even be considered relevant until it receives a GVM upgrade.

People take too much shit anyway. I ride bikes on tour, on and off road, solo. I take 25kg - for some reason, 4WD users need to take their home with them, which is absolutely hilarious. If they’d toughen up, and rough it, GVM becomes irrelevant. At most, you guys if you really stripped it back, a compact gas stove from MSR, small fridge, hiking tent, mattress and recovery gear.

    • @Drivecomau
      @Drivecomau  10 місяців тому +2

It's relevant for some, but not as a replacement for a 200 Series Landcruiser. I wasn't overloaded with five on-board, because my kids are still small. If there were five adults on board, chances are the Tank would be overloaded. That's a problem to consider with this car for sure, and in terms of towing it's not a good candidate because of the small payload. I'm double-checking GCM with GWM, but I think that is quite low as well.

What a pile of junk. The total failure of the Junk 300 seen on Driving Enthusiast’s channel tells us everything we need to know.
It’s dangerous (rear wheels lifting off the ground under braking) and unreliable.

But your desired tester didn't real world test it as Sam has, 3 thousand kilometres compared to driving enthusiasts under 50 more than likely.
Sam's long term testing has clearly demonstrated the claimed issue is not an issue cause nobody brakes as in brake testing.
You can carry on about the wheels lifting but I put the question to you, when have you applied full force pedal braking from 100 kilometres per hour, and if so, WHY?
Never have I been required to do that. Yes, I've emergency braked for Roos, Bramham Bulls but with a controlled amount of brake force.
Note: Strike the bloody Roo's cause swerving at 100 with or without rear wheels on the ground is going to end bad for you and the Roo will hop off.
Now go and test drive one and see if you can detect an issue.
