I hope you guys enjoy episode 1 of our Extreme Kitchen renovation! Subscribe to follow along for this series to see the entire process of renovating a major space like this in under 4 months! 💞
This was a great teaser! I'm very excited to see it come together! Should we expect the first "real" kitchen reno video next week, or the week after?
I have to know, is your contractor aware that you built a house with your own two hands?
I saw a glimpse of a lot of male energy there and wonder if you are having to assert yourself at all. It’s your house and I hope they are professional and easy to work with unlike some of the other contractors you had to deal with in Texas! ❤
I saw 24min "extreme renovation" and quickly layed down to watch! 😂 super super excited for you! LOVE LOVE LOVE all ur design ideas 💡 keep up the amazing work, it's going to look beautiful 😍 can't wait for next episode ❤😂
Beautiful plans!! TFS! Be well ❤
Loving the design inspo! I'm partial to kitchens with medium wood cabinets so I'm excited to see it come together. I will caution about the placement of the fridge. It seems veeeeery far from the sink which is not ideal. Especially when handling raw foods. You don't want that much space to spread germs and bacteria. Also, just for function and practicality the sink, oven, and fridge should be closer together for ease of cooking and prep.
As you have a family and kids grow up, sitting down together to go over everyone's day an eat in kitchen is going to be the best
Right!!!!! 💕💕
I love this idea!
We eat as family every night at the dinner table. My kids are grown but they and their friends still remark that it is a unique and special thing our family did. Wouldn’t change it!
I can so picture this for them!!! I would prefer the island but the coziness of the eat-in kitchen definitely gives Macenna vibes ✨️🤎
Exactly! As an Italian I don’t understand the whole eating at an island thing. Stools are uncomfortable and not fun with small kids. Also they don’t make sitting together a pleasure!
Yes eat in kitchen! As you grow your family you are going to want a dining table to gather around, do crafts, play games, etc!
It's just such a precious place in the home!
This!
Your kitchen design reminds me of old school Italian household. I can really picture Nona making bread or pasta from your kitchen table while others are chopping vegetables. It's amazing how we can go full circle and we end up where our great grandparents or grandparents were at. They understood a productive layout of a kitchen.
Omg I love that 💕
@@XOMaCenna I don't have your resources or even own a home but as I've grown older and now a grandma of 3 beautiful grandchildren, I've learned to use my space in the kitchen so that I can relearn cooking from scratch but having my grandchildren 10, 3, and 2 to help stir and kneed. If I could ever have a kitchen for great cooking, gathering and teaching time, you have designed it. The kitchen is the heart of a home. Everything good can come from there and all problems can be solved in that space. Your appreciation for vintage, in my book is a revival of the old that never should have left households. Thank you for bringing back an oldie but a goodie.
Yes, my favorite style of kitchen!! ❤
@@rosekisiel3383I have childhood memories of hanging out with my Nonna in her small kitchen in CT while she made grand meals for the whole family (up to 20 people at times). She did all of this with one functioning arm (her right was unusable due to a stroke) and I always remember how happy she was cooking for everyone regardless of her limitations. My Nonno tended to the garden while she cooked all the meals with all the fresh grown food. I miss her everyday ❤️
I love what she is planning with the dining table instead of island! I have been dreaming of that for my own kitchen one day!
The kitchen in the cottage is literally one of my favorite kitchen designs. I am so excited for this series!
Has she mentioned when she’s going back to the cottage?
Yaaay!!!! I am sooo excited! I'm a single mom who recently lost both my parents and both siblings and your videos fill my heart with so much comfort 💓
o gosh im so so sorry! My heart is with you and sending you a great big virtual hug!
So sorry to hear of all your loss
❤
❤
❤
My only feedback is to make sure the doors that lead out to the pool have high/childproof handles....peace of mind when the little one starts walking.❤
Best advise ever
So crucially important -- probably need keyed locks also because little kids are brilliant at figuring out how to open things.
smart
*put a fence around the pool to prevent the child(ren) to become injured.
Dear MaCenna, as an architect I really admire how you are tackeling your projects and I am looking forward to how the kitchen is gonna turn out but PLEASE reconcider the single upper cabinet on the right hand side of the sink. You gain no extra space because it is in the way of your beautiful statement storage wall!
Could not agree more @ChiliMarilli!
I was thinking the same. Some pretty shallow open shelves or art in its place would make the pretty cabinet wall the focus from that angle
I am too excited for your kitchen makeover!! I love how you are so active in the plan. I am glad you are keeping the floors, it add cozy to the areas in your home. I also like the idea of combining the dining room with the kitchen area! I just can't wait for the final reveal and of course the new baby!!
yes thank you!! It looks very strange there I hope they change it
I agree with this. If you lose the single on the right and make the left cabinet only two instead of three you can still have about equal space around your window for symmetry as well.
Tips from a kitchen designer!
The kitchen is lovely and will look amazing! The only thing I’m worried about planning wise is the amount of counter space. It’s more but not much. When the island disappears it will most likely get a bit crammed by appliances and not have the best chopping-station. I recommend putting a few outlets in the pantry and enough space to have some appliances hidden away behind the doors. You can also make the filling-piece by the end of the glass-cabinets into a hidden door that folds in or a shutter door that pulls up. That way you can hide some more appliances there! These are not critiques of the design just a tip from someone who plans kitchens every day 😅
I love this! As an architect in another lifetime 😊 I'm in love except with the upper cabinet to the right of the sink. I would love to see the beautiful larger cabinet run clear to the wall. Not a criticism just my thoughts.
Totally agree!
I just wrote a comment saying the same thing. That cabinet sticks out in a funny way. It needs to be removed.
I thought the same! That one cabinet felt a bit out place. Yes, you get more storage but I think it might disrupt the flow :/

Having 3 boys……you 100% want an eat in kitchen. When they’re babies it’s easier to feed in a high chair, as they get older….homework table and as teenagers they are always eating……it’s a great conversational area. An eat in kitchen is a must❤
Yes! It encourages kids to hang out which is exactly what you want! My kitchen table was indispensable! So much easier for younger children to manage and be independent and they'll use it for arts and crafts, just plain old coloring, then homework, etc. I did my own wallpapering and hated prepasted so used wallpaper paste and did it on my kitchen table (mine had leaves so just popped a couple of leaves in and good to go). I'm also on the short side and inherited bad knees. Standard counters are just a bit too high for me (my current kitchen is better - my mother designed it with slightly lower counters) and make my shoulders ache, so i worked directly on my table for things like rolling pie crusts, kneading bread, etc. When my daughter hit a certain age, she'd read to me while I fixed dinner then in high school, she'd just sit and chat. Kitchen tables are so much comfier than islands and barstools.
Loving everything! Only thing that looked a little off (to me) was the cabinets on the sink wall. They made that wall look heavy and off balance. Floating shelves may look better. It's coming along, that's so exciting!
Yes! Open shelves for decor and plants would frame the window beautifully
Here’s an idea: bench seating along the back side of the table, that way the bench can be pushed under and you can use the table as more workspace without moving a bunch of chairs.
SMART!
Taking down the wall makes perfect sense it will give you a lot more usable space and let more light in. I can't wait to see if it's possible
I love that you’re using the same guy Drew uses. He seems so nice and doesn’t seem to get irritated if(when) the client changes their minds. Yes, I’m subscribed to you and Lone fox.
Nothing better than being able to have a table in the kitchen. For me, it's THE living space of a home.
I love this idea so much!
We got you gurrllll. It's like we live in your head. We can't wait, I am sure is going to be fantabulous. I mean, look at the rest of the house is like a French dream.
Awww thank you so much! ❤
I'm so glad of the table instead of an island! It fits with the style of the house!
Islands look nice, but I think not too comfy for sitting…maybe spill over seating, but that’s all. Love the county/homey feeling of a good sized table in the kitchen.
I just know, with this being YOUR space and YOUR ideas.. that its definitely going to be a beautiful kitchen and I'm excited to watch the process! Even more excited to see it finished and decorated! Thanks for sharing the while process with us!!😊
Thank you so much!!
The kitchen truly is the heart of the home. My grandparents farmhouse in Bretagne has that all in one kitchen dining room and it really is where memories are made and family bonds strengthened. I wish you the same for your growing family and your new kitchen
I love that so much! ❤
I have lived in my home 30 years and the entire time I have wanted to remedy the awkwardness of m6 kitchen. Bravo to you for getting it done.
Oh my goodness - you are SO talented & have such an eye for this. I cannot believe you imagined this design - it looks like a completely different house! I cannot wait to see this come to life! ❤
Omg you’re too sweet! Thank you so much!
the pantry wall is giving me life. i imagine how unique it will look with the cabinets going over the door and all of the trim and embellishments. it's gonna be so good ugh.
so good!
One of the best things with having a normal table in the kitchen is eating together with our baby ❤ Her chair fits perfectly.
I agree! Tall barstools are uncomfortable for everyone and very difficult for young children and older people who may have knee or hip issues. And MaCenna is entering both of those realms. Her parents are spry now and my fervent wish for them is that they remain that way, but they won't be so limber forever. I feel like I can chime in on this since I'm about Cathy's age - maybe a few years older, but not many!
The new kitchen is sooooo big and beautiful!
❤❤❤
Having a table in the kitchen is going to be really nice for when the baby comes and is in a highchair easier for feeding them and having a family get together. Also kids doing homework while you’re in the kitchen also for your job too if you had to have a company meeting enough room in your kitchen to do . exciting journey you’re taking us on.💕🦋
Breathtaking vision Macenna! So excited to see it come to life.
Awww thank you so much
I totally see this as a happy cozy family space for eating and gathering. It’s going to be so stunning too. Picturing all of the birthday parties and summer dinners with food on the table and the dining area that leads out to the backyard and pool space! So fun. I’m so excited for you guys!!
Only note I have is that I hope you have enough counter space, and that I maybe would have rethought if you need the upper cabinets by the sink (looks like you’ve got a lot of storage in the wall of cabinets).
I’m SO excited for the kitchen reno. It’s going to be gorgeous! I think the dining table will look great in there, makes it more of a communal and interactive space. And you can always add an island later if your needs change.
I agree that the sink wall cabinets are unnecessary. Maybe a shelf for essentials only
I think they just look awkward because they're so tall - they overwhelm the window. It's big window but they make it look small.
I think I would consider if you need the door there out to the rose garden, or if you can put a window there instead and keep the kitchen going around the corner for more counter space.
I do love the door to the rose garden though and I think MaCenna mentioned loving to go out there with the coffee in the mornings
I would consider making the glass cabinets shorter to make the counter space along that wall useable. Instead maybe make the cabinets between the rose garden door and the sink reach all the way down because they look pretty strange just floating there like that. and the awkward little cabinet to the right of the sink definitely needs to go or be transformed to somehow work with the glass cabinets as one unit.
The eat in kitcken sounds excellent, all the family will be united. I was hoping the brick floors will continue all the way through and you wouldn't need to find brick replacements. MaCenna You're so talented. God bless you!
Im in australia getting my kids ready for the day so i cant watch now but i still clicked to watch the first 30 seconds because im so excited for this series ❤
Omg same, Perth! The kids ran in 5 mins in so I have to wait all day and i’m so excited haha
My home was built in the 50’s with an eat-in kitchen. I love it, I think you will be surprised how much better it is than having a separate room. I’m loving the entire design, can’t wait to see it finished.
I clicked that notification so fast! So excited for this renovation, I know it’s going to be gorgeous ✨
I legit had to pace myself because I had things to finish, but it was a struggle not to immediately shift! I was looking forward to this ALL DAY!
So exciting to see the kitchen remodel taking shape, but worried that you aren't gaining enough counter space running the cabinets on the pantry wall all the way down. Maybe keep them at the usual 18" above the countertop to gain more working space?
YES this just commented this also. And the cabinets on the sink wall might look better going all the way down so they look less float-y.
So glad you are keeping the windows. They are part of the original house, and it feels right to keep them with the house. If you do t use them, the next owners might.
I agree with Romeo😁.I had a sink with a divider and now have one big sink, much better!
I love it. Only thing is with a baby on the way there won’t always be aesthetic dish-ware that you want displayed. Maybe add some more closed storage along with the fluted glass beautiful cabinets. Love it as always! Hope you’re doing well! 😊
Love the idea of an eat-in kitchen with a full-sized family dining table! It's perfect and you will REALLY utilize the space! Can't wait to see the progress!
You might find a narrow filler panel to the side of both pantry and fridge would allow you to open the doors wider.
We have a wine rack, one bottle wide full height down the side of our wide pantry cupboard. This means we could fit special hinges that open extra wide to improve pantry access. Standard 90 degree hinges make it feel like you're sticking your head in a box looking for the rice!
And automatic light when you open pantry door is essential
MaCenna, I am extremely impressed with your presentation. Every aspect of the design layout and your design decisions was explained so well and your visuals supported those decisions. Your video production and editing is so professional. Well done.
The doors that go out to the front patio, what if they open out onto the patio rather than into the kitchen. Design looks amazing.
That’s exactly what I was thinking!
I think it’s a security issue. If it opened out, you don’t have as much control if someone is at the door.
The kitchen is the heart of the home! Sitting down together and enjoying your family and good food are the best. Some of my fondest memories with my parents are when we sat down together for a meal. We even did crafts there! I still have that table now that they are gone. ❤
Yes! I have my parents' table, too! So many memories - my brother died young and both my parents are gone so there's just myself and those memories of our family.
Your dream kitchen will be the heart of your home…a home with many hearts!
I’m glad you are doing it now because it will make the baby waiting time go quicker…I can see how excited you are for that! ❤
It's all happening! So nice that you lived in that kitchen first to know how it best functions. Love the big old table in the kitchen - the dream! ✨
I paused my life, to press play on the notification. So excited to see this episode 😁
Love that you are starting without an island. Unexpected and different. And it’ll help with cost too. But of course, always easy to add in later on. Makes so much sense!
I love the eat in kitchen idea, and you are absolutely right that you can always change it later if you decide an island will work better. Ahhhh I can't wait to see how the kitchen turns out!
Hey MaCenna, I’m loving the kitchen update and look forward to seeing all the progress!!! The renderings are so smart. Have you considered NOT having the upper cabinets on the sink wall? They don't seem needed and appear to close in the space. Have you considered, instead, a couple of rustic open shelves on that wall for artwork, pottery, flowers and misc stacked cookbooks. :) Your post are always an inspiration and I'm excited to watch your progress. :)
So exciting!! Regarding the pot filler: even though it’s handy over the stove to fill, keep in mind you’ll still have to carry a full pot back to the sink to empty. If it will be too far, it could be a safety issue, especially if water is hot. Just a thought 😊
I love the design. I feel like you will use the kitchen table for food prep and unloading groceries, which is fine if that’s what you want. I just don’t see much more counter space than you have now because of the gorgeous floor to ceiling cabinets. If you decide you want more counter space you could lose the doors leading to the front porch. Perhaps use the windows from the back of the house there to take advantage of the light. Then you’d have that whole corner with a counter under the windows. I know it will be beautiful whatever you decide.
That’s really the plan to use the dining table as well as extra space to put things down and get things out of you way .. just like a island but one that you can also use as a dining room table a sit lower and more comfortable than bar stools.
Love this!
If you have lots of counter to ceiling cupboards, countertop space will be minimal
Countertop is impt esp near the fridge and oven areas. The pantry area do need countertops too. Bare in mind that sometimes when we plan a kitchen it might looks picture perfect but not practical. So go thru the designs thoroughly . Cause carpentry is expensive. Unless you want to redo kitchen every yr.
Why not do a island that steps down to dining height. U get best of both Olu’s gives u counter space. Doesn’t seem like there’s much counter top space
@@zzaaz100 I don’t thing those islands look nice. They take up a lot of visual room and actual space. I also feel they aren’t charming. I think k she is going for classic charm and warmth.
EEEeeek! This is so exciting. The renders helped me understand so much and I think it will be gorgeous.
YES I can't wait to see how she adds the trim and molding to everything and around the stove 🤗💓💕💞
I am excited to see this kitchen come together. I love that you save and repurpose things. I think none of us will be surprised if you end up using the saved kitchen windows to make the most magical little playhouse in your yard ❤❤❤❤
I wonder if you could add counter space under the glass cabinets. Because your appliances are so far from each other, it seems like more counter could be useful. Everything else looks perfect, and obviously you’ll choose what is right for YOU and your family.. that’s the beauty of design, there are no rules. Can’t wait to watch it unfold
The stove and fridge are close together. It will be great.
I'd do that, too. But think this will be pretty!
the skylights will be an amazing addition to the kitchen!! i love that idea🤍🤍🤍
YEYYYY I am so excited for this renovation! Can’t wait to watch the whole process 🫶🏼✨
I cannot wait to see how this transformation turns out, it already looks so spacious and bright and that's without walls!
Totally envisioning what you have planned, and crown molding would definitely be the perfect touch to this space!
What’s up with the guy at the end “you want me to replace this… x2” does he know who he is talking to. Hahaha will just have to keep watching.
the design is GORGEOUS! Love all the elements! Not sure how far into the cabinet design you are, but an idea if you want a bit more prep. space is a built in pull out cutting board or cutting board drawer by the stove. It's such a cute and convenient detail that would make your kitchen feel even more custom
I think you would love devol kitchens as inspiration. Very British Victorian/ Georgian cottage
Love table in the kitchen. Your right the rendering looks too modern for your designs. I can’t imagine it looking like that. You will fix all the little things ❤.
Making such special memories as you’ll look back one day and look at all the changes and you’ll tell your little boy all about it one day. ❤
YESSSS!!!! When you first bought the house and were living in that kitchen, I was so confused and thought there’s NO way you would keep it the same!! So seeing these renders of your vision is SOOOO exciting!!!! I knew you had it in you! You’re a design maven and I’m loving it 🥰💙💙💙
For me personally, I love symmetry and flow and this space has a lot of challenges that keep the space from looking symmetrical in the design features. It's your space, your design and you and Romeo are the only ones who have to love it. Enjoy the process and I wish you all the best on executing your design and vision!
I based my kitchen design off of the same kitchen with the dark cabinets and fluted glass. Also was inspired by your cottage kitchen. I did dark lowers and cream uppers, cafe appliances and a quartzite countertop/backsplash.
I’m also working on an English cottage style open pantry with curtain below and banquette seating. Skylights are on my wishlist because we only have one small window.
Looks great MaCenna but I agree with a few other comments about losing the single upper cabinet next to the window! You’re not gaining anything and it looks odd! I would consider removing it so your full wall of cabinets can continue and making the 3 uppers on the other side of the window a 2 so it’s still symmetrical around the window! I’m an Architect from Aus
That added space as DR was a porch that was enclosed I'm thinking. Your plan is going to be great, it always is. I can't wait for it to get going and be done. So exciting!
Been sitting here with my app open waiting for the video lol it’s been a rough day I needed a pick me up 😂
aww hope your day gets better !
As a mother of three who bought a place that needed renovating during my third pregnancy…I agree thoroughly that it was a great decision to hop onto the kitchen Reno before baby. We lived in a construction sight with a newborn….laying floors, etc. Kinda stressful (an understatement). You’re going to love your new bigger, brighter more welcoming, functional kitchen !
Reaching over the stove to get spices is not safe. Additionally, they will become greasy. Highly recommend opening skylights, which cools the whole house easily.
You know you seriously love and admire a UA-cam designer when their old tiled countertop has grown on you so much that it is now beautiful to you!!! But I cannot wait to see what MaCenna does to this space!!!!! Eeeek I’m so excited!!
Haha! I HATED that tile when she first moved in! But it grew on me a little. Then she showed the paint color for the cabinets and I was thinking it would be a disaster with the tile. She said there were tones there and I assumed I just could t see it on camera and trusted. Naturally, she was right and I actually could ignore the tile after painting the walls and cabinets. Still not my fave, but I had grown fond of it in a way I hadn't realized until I saw it hanging off the wall during demo.
Thanks for this update, but do we need to wait for another two weeks to see the part 2? 😄 Just excited!
I just wish it was done already. I wanna keep binge watching! 😂❤
I love the switcheroo of colors from the cottage kitchen to the LA one; biggest think I am excited for is the glass cabinets and hood range
I am so happy for you and Romeo. I have been following you for quite a while now and always enjoy all your updates. I appreciate your hard work, attention to detail and energy. I love watching it come together. 🏡
Looking forward to seeing this all come together, the dining room was always too small a space to be useful so it will be great to open up the space. I can imagine baby boy in his highchair at the table with you both! Family time around the table eating together is so special❤
I so appreciate your thinking on the question of an island! It's become a modern fixation to have one even when it makes little sense in context. Your idea of an eat-in kitchen is much better, and yes, if you eventually make the front room a dining room, then the island can always be added to the kitchen.
I cannot wait to see the storage wall come to life. I think that's going to be absolutely magnificent.
We have a daughter and hope she grows up to be as wonderful as you! Love ❤️ and love your channel and can’t wait for the next one.
i grew up with a table in the kitchen. we ate there, my dad read the paper while having coffee there, etc. we had a dining room w a swing door, but that was only for company or holidays. and the dining room on the other side had pocket doors to the living room. rooms were blocked off but could b open
The best part of this home is the Garden no doubt!
I love the window's & the French door exactly like they are. The wall in between removed, best idea of the makeover. It does make perfect sense.
I love seeing the variance in your kitchen designs and what direction you've gone with us! Designing TWO kitchens! Lucky gal 💕
Dear MaCenna, How I wish I could be a fly on the wall !!! The contractors are going to be surprised at your expertise and enthusiasm for this renovation. It would be so cool to have an on going video of all the transformation. ( It wouldn't matter how long, I know others like me, would just sit through the whole thing). I am extremely happy for you and Romeo for this lovely make over. Hugs 💞
Yes! So happy for you ❤
I’ve always loved an eat-in kitchen! Is that Drew’s contractor? Whoever it is, it’s amazing that they were able to start working on your kitchen immediately.
Finally! So excited to see your updates!!!
Yes to all and to the table. As your family grows you will need it for gatherings. You could consider half island and attached a table if course but you need to count your space if it fits. ❤❤❤❤❤❤ Loved the designs and the layout though. I m sure that in the end your kitchen will smell Tuscany's design.
Can’t wait to see it come to life. Absolutely beautiful and timeless with the natural dark wood and light counter tops. Love it.
Did you consider moving the frig next to the doorway and then wrapping a 'U of counters from there. I think you would get more uninterrupted counter, have a true triangle and eliminates the missed opportunity for counter in that corner where you have the frig.
I saw that render and knew exactly how you'd add your flair ... its going to be stunning. What a perfect kitchen to bake in!!
Cannot wait to see your vision come to life! Love the wood, love the fluted glass. And to see a different style kitchen without the generic layout!
This is going to be epic! We're all so excited to see this kitchen renovation. It's going to be beautiful! ❤
Omg yay!! I’ve been WAITING for this! 🤗
Good move to get the most important room with a child done prior to the birth, and allowing others to do it. You will be overwhelmed, learning so much as you go w a new baby, and making so many adjustments. Your nursery is beautiful. I’m praying everyday for a healthy delivery, and that both of you are both healthy and recover quick. ❤
I love the idea of a table in the kitchen. I think I said that already, lol.
Your videos fill my heard with so much comfort. Iam so excited for this series!
Zero doubt this kitchen will be stunning 💛
How exciting and I love an eat in kitchen!!! This is going to be stunning!!!The fact that you designed and built the Cottage kitchen is just amazing!!! I’m still in awe!!!
Oh my goodness MaCenna, those renderings are actually gorgeous and your vision always blows my mind. It's going to be so lovely and so much more functional!! Can't wait to see it come to life 🎉🙌😊✨
Woohoo! Been awaiting this! Happy Sunday 🌞
I love this MaCenna so excited to be along for the journey it’s been years. I’ve been watching you and your growth is amazing. You’re gonna be a new mom. I love it.
