Thank you for being so transparent on prices, Idk what the big secret is about hiding prices or budget...what's the point 😂 we ALL want to learn and share budget ideas, finding treasures etc..
It gives me such a realistic idea of the price of quality stuff! I don’t think any of that is CRAZY expensive. Totally doable. I love how humble she is ❤️
$30K for 2 bathrooms and an ENTIRE kitchen is absurdly low budget, considering the higher end options. But, I appreciate so much that MaCenna understands that this is not accessible to everyone and that $30K is still a lot of money. 💛
I did mine for a whole lot less cost. I did not go w high end appliances. Bathroom tiles were a closeout special, saved $$$. Stripped and painted kitchen cabinets, splurged on the counter tops.
I don't think there is any cabinetry in that. They were nearly theist expensive thing when I did my very basic kitchen nearly 11 years ago. The only thing I splurged on were lots of drawers instead of cupboards as I am older. I am just amazed at the refrigerators, stoves etc available. I like the fact that you have your vision board for the kitchen and bathrooms to keep you on track and budget. When I was remodeling my home and picking out tile and carpeting at that time, the contractor told me when you find something that you like: STOP. He said that you can drive yourself crazy trying to make tile decisions etc.
Built and renovated at least 25 houses, but I’m old so that makes sense 😂 we are now finishing a second level on our new house, that we built last year, plus we are buying a fixer upper in a couple of weeks! You are doing an amazing job! Proud of you 👏

My mom just had her kitchen redone and got Miele appliances (we're german btw.) and it literally makes such a difference from the appliances we had before... and we didn't even get their "fancy" range but the more "affordable" one. I don't think you'll regret spending on those appliances.
I really appreciate that you are including the costs along the way. So many people hide that information, but it is so helpful to see it all broken down!
I loved that Brittany didn't try to sell you on the range/stove you liked even though it probably has a pretty high pricepoint and would have been a better sale for her because it just wasn't a good fit for you. Bless her.
As a german girl, I can totally say: Miele is one of the best! A little bit more expensive, but it holds up for at least 10 - 20 years (and even longer), when you take good care of it. You really want good quality appliances! 🥰
I can’t believe it’s only been 3 months!!! You’ve done so much already!!! Your vision is so amazing. It’s going to be such a stunning family home. So open, but honouring the original detail. Can’t wait to see it!!!
You have great taste and I am really enjoying watching your progress. One comment I would have is that you might want to consider putting in a shower instead of a tub in the guest bathroom. You never know when you will have guests that would have difficulty getting in and out of a tub - it's just safer for guests. Just a thought.
Can I just say that I LOVE how much you’re sharing about this Reno?! It’s going to be so cool to go back to the beginning of these videos once you’re completely done and see how insanely far you’ve come! Love to see all the tile shopping, fixture shopping, stuff that no one else really shows. The process is so interesting! Please keep these going!
I am from Germany and have several Miele appliances. They really last a long time. I gave away my washing machine after 26 years (in working order) to buy a new, modern...
My brother in law worked for Miele for many years as a technician, so we have lots of Miele stuff in our house too. And I love them! The dishwasher does a great job and is quiet, and the same goes for the washer and dryer too really. And you can really tell the quality is good. So yeah, I recommend!
It’s funny when you talk about the square footage because in the UK the average 3 bed family home is 914sq ft and you consider that really small. My 2 bed family house is a two storey 410sq ft terraced house. Most people in Europe would consider your cottage to be really spacious! Xx
My husband and I bought our first home about 3 years ago. Its a 1963 ranch style fixer upper. So far we have renovated 2 of the 3 bedrooms, the main bathroom, living room, office, and are currently working on the kitchen. Its our biggest project so far but I'm loving how its coming along. We torn it basically down to the studs and have finished the ceiling, floors, countertops, plumbing, and are finishing up the cabinet doors, which are much harder than I expected to make. We still have to finish the island, add a window, and build out the bench and storage next to the back door. Then its just finishing touches! Living through a reno of that size is tough, I'm glad you guys are able to stay with your parents and will have the guest cabin to stay in. Good luck with you cottage! I've been loving seeing your process so far!
I know those costs are expensive but those items are definitely where you want to spend the extra money. You won't be replacing them anytime soon. So LOVE what you get! I am happy for you and Romeo! So fun seeing people's dreams come true. ❤
Run a channel of PCV or conduit in EVERY room to EVERY outlet❗ However wiring or computer related connections change in the future, all you have to do is pull it through the PVC. So make it "roomy" enough❗👍😉
My boyfriend and I just bought a home and you've really inspired my reno style ! I really appreciate your honesty when it comes to prices and whatnot, it's been a tremendous help, and it's been a little less stressful to have you as an example ! :)
I just love DIY. And am so happy I found you by accident at the start of the pandemic, although was it really an accident? I’ve gotten so fed up with tv and to watch real people follow their dreams is much more exciting for me. 🥰
Just a heads up, I would caution you in using a white glazed cast iron sink in the kitchen. I wanted the same cottage feel in my kitchen when renovating and had one installed. It looked beautiful at first, but after a couple of years, it started to look terrible. Any metal pots and pans, silverware, etc. will scratch and wear down the surface over time. It also started looking dingy and stained over time and no matter what I used to clean it (including bleach), nothing got it back to the white it used to be. The exact same problem happened to my brother when he bought a new house with the same kind of white sink, and his was even higher end than mine. His also started to chip in places. I really regretted my decision and wished I had known this beforehand.
I am an Interior Designer and remodeled.lots of very high end homes, my advise would be use the same plumbing throughout the house, it will save you a lot of money in the long run, is easier to manage if there is a problem and gives it a very classy homogeneity that is very classy..
Just a thought, but if you love those toilets so much, I really think you’d be able to diy the knob onto a more affordable one if that’s the main reason you want those. You’re so creative, I know u could figure it out 😉 enjoying this adventure, btw!
I never cared for vlogs...UNTIL NOW!!!! I’ve usually only been interested in DIYs. I am soooo hooked on your cottage journey that I can hardly believe it myself. My biggest fear is that I might lose my vision before you complete the construction. Very fun to watch.
We just finished a 2 year renovation on our cottage in the middle of 30 acres and it was a long, wonderful process. We have similar taste in so many things. I'm so glad that we bit the bullet and went with "what we wanted" and made the budget work. Those are my favorite things about the house. For instance, "my pool", as my husband calls it, (the rather large stand alone tub), I fought for...I use it and love it every single day (to include the beautiful be-jewels - faucets, tiles, cabinets, as well). One recommendation my cabinet guy made for me was the microwave drawer in the kitchen. LOVE IT. Check it out. I'm so enjoying your process. Keep up the great work and thank you for taking us on this journey with you.
Love this and the choices you're making. I was a little confused why you were having a meeting when it seemed like you already had such a clear vision of what you wanted, but wow how helpful. Something like the availability of maintenance service for that oven is something I would never think of. Also I'm so excited for an update on the guest cottages!
Hi, when we moved into our bungalow 3 years ago we had a long list of things we needed to do. We finally completed our first list, the major things, like gardens, kitchen, bathroom etc. Now we are on the the 2nd list, the more cosmetic things. It takes time and it does come with a price tag. We were very foolish when we first married at 18, and it took a long time to get ourselves back on track. We managed to buy the bungalow, so we’re mortgage free. And everything we have done in the last three years we have saved for. So I get how you are so meticulous with list making, and doing as much of the work yourselves. This was a great video, thank you so much for sharing xxx
Miele is also considered the best here in Germany (and the most expensive as well). Thank you for sharing your ideas, your house is going to be awesome !
My boyfriend’s mom has a Viking oven in white that’s similar to the Italian one. I’m not sure how much the one you were looking at but she’s had hers for over 20 years and loves it
I've completely gutted and rebuilt two tiny bathrooms and updated a countertop/sink/faucets/stove/vent hood in a tiny galley kitchen and let me tell you, your price points are fantastic.
Just wanted to let you know that certain bricks for the fireplace must be able to handle the heat. The bricks need higher Dolomite or aluminum content so they don’t crack. You can use the decorative bricks for the hearthstone. I am sure your dad will know what I am saying.
I bought an older home in 2013. Gutted the whole interior with my daughter. Used Ferguson and datile in CA. Great people here too. My budget was way more modest. Loved the feeling of doing it myself. You go girl!!
I have had a Miele dishwasher for years - it is the best!!!! Go for it! I also have soapstone counter with a chiseled edge and they are spectacular! Just make sure you see it sealed/oiled and dry before you select your piece.
We bought a house on a creek in the North Georgia mountains, originally built in 1983. The location was great, but it needed a lot of work. We gutted the house and my daughter and I picked out the color scheme, all new appliances, hardwood flooring, tile flooring, plumbing, light fixtures, and rock fireplace. We pulled down the popcorn ceiling, redesigned the kitchen, and replaced the pocket doors with pretty wood doors. We had a contractor to do the work, and it took us about 6 months to get everything finished. It is definitely a dream vacation home for us!!
You have an amazing ability to look at a shell and see the complete interior. Will it be difficult to transfer your windows from wall to wall? The extension will be the easiest part as you pour the concrete and build up from there. Can’t wait for the next episode. Did you say in a previous vid that this will only be your holiday home and that you guys will still be renting the place you are in now? Once you build all the small cottages surely you will be back here keeping an eye on the people who rent them. Or will you have to employ some to do that for you?
I just moved into a 1979 bungalow and yes it’s a process and hard with all that demo-ing to see where you’re headed sometimes but gosh once when area gets finished it really starts feeling amazing. Been enjoying your series !!!
You serve as such an inspiration! I appreciate that you go over costs of what your items cost, since it helps set realistic expectations [at least for me]. My husband and I are in the process of updating our entire home, so I love the ideas you have - like making sure we have lookbook references when going in to shop
So refreshing watching you reuse where you can and making it your style rather than cookie cutter. Your videos and outlook on everything is so inspiring! 💗
Keep your eyes open on offer up or Craig’s list for some of the bathroom stuff. When we built our cabin, We bought our claw foot tub for 150 bought special white paint and painted the outside of it. It’s really nice and in good condition.
I am Austrian and my family has always had Miele appliances. We literally had the same Miele dishwasher for 20 years before we bought a new one, which we now have for another 8 years already! My boyfriend is American and I already told him that when we are closing the distance and will have a house in the US, we will be getting Miele appliances (and nothing else hahahaha). Great decision - they will last you forever. I love to watch your channel atm! I actually was an au pair (live in nanny) in San Antonio for 2 years back in 2016 and this is where I met my boyfriend, so seeing you in the SA area makes me so happy!!!
She's so organized and thorough and professional I felt like I was on a Zoom call with her the entire video 😊😊🤣🤣 ... so fun! I'm so excited for the install phase!!
These videos make me so excited to have my own house someday and go through the process of renovating it. I'm currently doing this in my apartment and loving it. It can be stressful and overwhelming at times but it's so worth it and exciting. Thank you for these videos, I cant wait for the next one.
Of course we all love MaCenna with good reason she is wonderful ! Her mom thought is just as amazing cant get enough of her !!!! She needs a you tube channel ,I want to see everything she is doing to Fox Run ! MaCenna more mom please !!!!!
It’s been so incredible to see you and your channel grow! You’re such a professional but you make everything so relatable, just such a wonderful experience following along on your journey! 💗
You are doing great! The whole thing about budgets, which we all have (and whatever one’s budget is, it’s fine!), is we get to choose where to save and where to splurge. You’re doing that very well. No cringing warranted or needed! If your budget numbers don’t match mine at this time, I’m still learning how to work the budget I have from you. And the process of reno-ing, and shopping, and choosing! And it’s just plain fun to see your dreams come to life! You’ve worked very hard for years to be where you are at. Just enjoy the fruits of all that work!
I absolutely love watching her god. These series especially, it's the the first thing I watch when i wake up in the morning it fills me sunshine. I cant wait to graduate and build something of my own with so much love, someday. She fills me with so much hope🥺
When will you start building the cottage? So much to this process, the colors, styles and shapes. Crazy!! Getting so excited to see the finished look. It's going to be gorgeous!!
This shopping trip was so helpful for me. 15 years ago, I put an addition on the back of my 70-year-old Cape Cod-style home to create my dream kitchen. (I say I, really it was the contractor.) 😆 Now, I am getting ready to add a second bathroom upstairs. I expected it to cost much more than your wish list did. I'm a single person, so picking out everything myself was extremely daunting. This many years later, I'm still pleased with my choices. Maybe some cosmetic changes such as light fixtures to give it a fresh feel. By the way, my kitchen sink is black enamel cast iron. I still love it. I have dark charcoal/black laminate counters (budget wouldn't allow for stone at the time) and it looks seamless. My current project is to replace my roof. Then replace the original (yep, 70 years old) gravity furnace so I can have A/C. THEN the upstairs finished off as a master bedroom/bath. I do enjoy following your progress.
So exciting to watch you build up you dream home in your home town from scratch to rescratch to finish! Thank you for being you and for bringing us along !! Edit Okay and the color blocking blouse
We’re at a similar stage pulling our kitchen extension refit & bathroom renovations together.. it is so exciting. Love following your journey in comfort cottage x
I’m pretty sure the utuber Parisienne Farmgirl bought the Hallman range and she has not been happy with it and is looking to replace it. Also my sister here in Texas bought an antique claw foot cast iron tub and had it professionally resurfaced It cracked and flaked and she ended up having to put a rubber mat in it 😫. Hope this helps. Get references
I’ve also read nightmare reviews of the Hallman. A pity since it has the exact style I’m looking for but the reviews and finding people that know how to repair and install them properly is keeping me from jumping to buy.
I am not planning on renovating any houses any time soon. I just love watching renovation series and Yours got me captured. Can't wait for the next episode (as always). Love from Poland ❤️❤️
I’m so, so excited for all of this❣️ This reminds me of my own kitchen renovation almost 7 years ago. That feeling is back watching you with your own reno. 😌
It is going to be so pretty! I just remodeled my kitchen, and I want to do our bathroom next. It was fun picking out all the décor type stuff, but man it took a whole year to actually finish it. We ran into a lot of snags, but it was all worth it. Can't wait to see how you put yours all together!
Great choice with the Miele brand!!! We bought the dishwasher 7 years ago and didn’t had any problems whatsoever. And can we talk about its layout? Soooo much more spacious than anything on the market. We got scared in front of the fridge prices, but looking back and comparing it with our actual choice, we kinda regret not investing the extra money. Love all your ideas and I admire you for choosing to get down and personal with a lot of the tasks. In my family we always go down this road one room at a time once a year and it’s amazing! Keeps you busy, saves you money that you can invest in other, more important things and, I’m not kidding, but it always has turned into great quality time with family and friends! I wish you the best of luck!! Can’t wait for the next video! 😊
Love your clothing style all through this video! ... and that glimpse of your extension plans! How exciting. Will you put a floating timber floor over the slab to make it flow with the rest of the house?
I'm currently still renovating my home! My partner and I brought our first house last March and started renovating last July with the kitchen and I love watching your videos as we both decided on a farmhouse theme as we love in a small town in the countryside of Cornwall in the UK. We both have done the work ourselves and I managed to salvage the old Belfast sink for the kitchen which allowed us to put more money towards our beautiful solid oak worktop! We love your inspo and I can't wait to see the results on your house! Especially the bathrooms as that's our project this winter 😁 xoxo
Ohh my God, I've being loving this series, even my husband watch it sometimes with me, we are doi g some renovations around the house a d we enjoy your journey along with the ideas you have, that is so helpful and fun!
Ok. The penny tile under the tub that you want, to clean it, is going to be almost impossible. It's hard to get under those tubs to clean, especially on the side by the wall and omg your going to want that tub to be on something smooth so that you can do it. I wouldn't recommend the tub being right up next to the wall because to get back there to clean is super hard to get to and the penny tile, I don't think your going to like it after a little while. You'll get bored with that and won't go with your other beautiful things like the toilet, I just think it will cheapen everything and you'll end up changing it. I've loved everything you have chosen except the penny tile, and, the black swing.
I think so, too. It's very inaccessible. Imagine having a broken leg or something and having to climb into and out of the bathtub all the time. Showers are also more accessible for kids and of course older people.
In my part of America, most older homes had bathtubs only. Showers were added to them in later decades versus a shower only because of costs and many families still prefer baths for small children.
@@BarbaraThorndyke same in Australia. We grew up with baths only, no shower unless it was under the hose. I know I only put a bathtub in my main bathroom for the grandkids. A few houses I've lived in have had showers over the bath but I'm glad I haven't had to use one of them for a few years. Too bloody old these days 😃

One of my favorite things to do on a Sunday!!! I just love this sweet girl and her design aesthetics blow me away!!
I'm so excited for Season 2 of this series! The Build!
Just wanted to let you know that certain bricks for the fireplace must be able to handle the heat. The bricks need higher Dolomite or aluminum content so they don’t crack. You can use the decorative bricks for the hearthstone. I am sure your dad will know what I am saying.
Your joy for this project is so contagious. I love watching these, they put me in such a good mood. 🥰
I bought an older home in 2013. Gutted the whole interior with my daughter. Used Ferguson and datile in CA. Great people here too. My budget was way more modest. Loved the feeling of doing it myself. You go girl!!
It's so fun and refreshing to watch someone else remodeling... we are in the thick of it ourselves. 💓
This is literally the best series on UA-cam
We had that style tub and it was so annoying taking a shower like that! Curtain always stuck to us.
We have a really nice thick linen curtain that doesn't have this static effect. Regular cheap shower curtains are indeed a pain in the ass.
This house... This house is going to be absolutely epic! I cannot wait to watch this whole series. Your taste is impeccable honestly.
Of course we all love MaCenna with good reason she is wonderful ! Her mom thought is just as amazing cant get enough of her !!!! She needs a you tube channel ,I want to see everything she is doing to Fox Run ! MaCenna more mom please !!!!!
We bought a vintage claw foot tub and had an auto body shop sandblast it and paint it. It turned out perfect and was much cheaper!
It’s been so incredible to see you and your channel grow! You’re such a professional but you make everything so relatable, just such a wonderful experience following along on your journey! 💗
“do-optimize” 😅 I love how supportive your mom . bless her heart !! I’m cheering you on MaCenna.
I never thought I would ever fall in love with a toilet...but I did. That’s the most beautiful toilet I have ever seen. 😍🥰
Really appreciate the breakdown on how you’re going about things🤗
You are doing great! The whole thing about budgets, which we all have (and whatever one’s budget is, it’s fine!), is we get to choose where to save and where to splurge. You’re doing that very well. No cringing warranted or needed! If your budget numbers don’t match mine at this time, I’m still learning how to work the budget I have from you. And the process of reno-ing, and shopping, and choosing! And it’s just plain fun to see your dreams come to life! You’ve worked very hard for years to be where you are at. Just enjoy the fruits of all that work!
I’m so excited! I’ve absolutely LOVED this series! I look forward to seeing what you do!
I’ve been following the series the whole way through! I’m so invested and cannot wait to see the end! I know it will be better than we imagine!
Enjoying this so much, I'm getting a new kitchen in next week, my house is wee.
I absolutely love watching her god. These series especially, it's the the first thing I watch when i wake up in the morning it fills me sunshine. I cant wait to graduate and build something of my own with so much love, someday. She fills me with so much hope🥺
We love you! Thank you for giving us the privilege to have a look into you making a home
(I say I, really it was the contractor.) 😆
Now, I am getting ready to add a second bathroom upstairs.
Edit
Okay and the color blocking blouse
When life gets crazy, I know I can look forward to your videos on Sunday and Tuesdays!! Seriously so relaxing and informative at the same time
We’re at a similar stage pulling our kitchen extension refit & bathroom renovations together.. it is so exciting.
Your excitement gets me even more pumped to watch this journey !
omg the excitement that this video brings! ✨no more torn down things, framing and building things together coming✨
I'm currently renovating my first house and really enjoy watching your journey and comparing it with mine.
Love your clothing style all through this video! ... and that glimpse of your extension plans! How exciting. Will you put a floating timber floor over the slab to make it flow with the rest of the house?
Shuu!! I'm overwhelmed looking at this, how you keep all this straight is beyond me
My boyfriend and I just bought a 1951 bungalow in Portland, OR. And we cannot wait to start the renovation!
I'm so excited for the day we can buy a house and renovate it! So much inspiration coming from you and I love it.
I love how in love you are with a toilet! Definitely a testament to your passion for this
Agree. No penny tile.
So are there no separate showers - just showers over the tubs? That would drive me nuts. But then I'm old. Hi from Australia.
