Hello thanks for asking Do you want to start at home? or are you able to use a commercial kitchen? Each state has cottage food laws that allow certain types of food items to be sold but you would need to ask your city health department or department of agriculture about what is allowed. Also normally you cant sell to stores from a home business.
Cottage kitchen is that when you’re cooking I don’t wanna do any cooking. I just want to sell prepackaged items like snicker bars, skittles stuff like that and deliver it.
cottage food law allows only products that have been made by the cottage food owner this would need a commercial setting with a commercial license for food distribution
You don't have to cook for cottage kitchen in Mississippi I do pickles

Hello! Me and my friend are planing to start making handmade fondant cake toppers, like a small business in Illinois. They are basically made from sugar, a small amounts of glycerin, tylose powder, egg whites and edible colours, no dairy, alcohol or something like that, thay can stand on room temperature for several months. The problem is that we both have pets in our homes so we can' t do it from there. Do you think that if we rent a commercial kitchen, what licences do we need, or what do we need to do and get that we can sell our products online or at our local backers? We are not planning to get rich, just to start small and than to see how far can we get. Thank you and sorry for extensive writing 🙂

no except a business licen: by your city or county, and when shipping food you have to be in a commercial setting not from home shipping from state to state is illegal from home .

Hello great ideas are you making the candy or reselling? Also if your working from home you can't ship a product from home via mail when your working from home. It would have to be sold from farmers markets, or locally via cotage food laws.

Great question when your "cooking" with alcohol this process can "cook out" the alcohol, but you would need to add this info to your label as a ingredient, but can place a disclaimer that the "alcohol" is rendered or cooked out and contains no alcohol. Ok so selling from home will depend on your state regulations and city regulations the place to start will be your local county "zoning and planning " office, or USDA local office they will tell you exactly what type of license you will need to be a "legitimate" business . Being sure to protect yourself legally is always the best first step ! Then once you get the needed info selling online starting would be ebay, or your own site, but selling on your own site is harder in the beginning just getting traffic that's why ebay is best to start, then your own site Amazon has many documents and a few things to do that are more involved if your just starting ! also there is a subscription business that can skyrocket your candy business and they are popular!

Hello Outlaw33 Thanks for asking and watching! Unfortunate no this would not be legal. You would need a permit, and licensing from your local business development office. The things is it can vary from state to state, and even from county to county and city . All these government agency may require different "types" of permits. So checking locally with them would be your best first step. Also when you find a location you may have to pay for parking a "food truck" in specific areas as well. But can you do this, yes but find out the needed steps in your city first. It can also be a very profitable business with high margins though.

Candy made at home mostly is safe and allowed, but when it comes to cheese products it is actually considered a potentially hazardous food due to the cheese. If the cheese is not kept at a certain temperature bacteria could form and cause illness. This is what the "sates" have ruled in the cottage food laws. Damian

thanks for asking when it comes to baking and adding alcohol from the states I have spoke with this is fine...now unless the state your in "SPECIFICALLY" states otherwise it is fine to use
So what if I buy wholesale unique candies and I want to sale them to people locally by advertising them on Facebook?
You can use FACEBOOK to "promote" but if the business is from home each state dictates the "way " you deliver the product it almost always has to be delivered in person to the customer cant be shipped ...each state is slightly different
