    In English, the vowel changes in some words when the other syllable is added, for example, "secret" and "secretary", "study" and "student", "please" and "pleasure".

    • @tarlespeech
      @tarlespeech  3 роки тому

      Yes. A vowel in a stressed syllable is a bit longer.

    • @-wil2013
      @-wil2013 3 роки тому +2

      The "ea" in "please" and "pleasure" are different

      Oh. You are talking about spelling. Spelling does not always mean the same pronunciation.

    • @-wil2013

      Someone asked you if "pleasure" pronounced "pléjor", you said no, in fact, she's right, the "j" is pronounced "zh" in French, she meant the French J

    The zh is hard for me to pronounce. 😔

    • @tarlespeech
      @tarlespeech  5 років тому

      Can you say SH? If you can practice that in the word instead of ZH. Sh and ZH are the same in mouth placement and airflow the only difference is throat vibration or voicing.

    • @tarlespeech

      She may be correct depending on the regional accent. But i hear most people say it the way I do in the video. All the best to you and your mom!

      No, ZH not J. Do not touch the tongue to the teeth for the ZH.

    • @-wil2013

      Yes, she's right ! She meant the French J, "j" is pronounced "zh" in French. "É" is a French letter
