Oh man thank you guys so much!!! I do have a new version of the looper pedal coming out very soon to those interested. Hope everyone has a great day.
That looper was awesome! Looking forward to seeing the new version!
Listen. That looper pedal was sooooo grainy and crunchy!!! I loved it!! That was the show stopper for me. Do you sell them? How could I buy one if you do?
I love how you're repurposing old technology with a bad rep by just using it in a different context!
"Ugh, this answering machine sounds so lo-fi, it's terrible"
"Unf, this looper pedal sounds so lo-fi, it's great!"
GG Allin "checked his own oil" on stage
I cannot find you (different noises). I’m not a social media person. Is there a real website :-)?
for someone whose musical skill and talent heavily relies on fingers, you are incredibly tolerant with scissors that close
LMFAOOO 😂❤️ I love livin' dangerously
I'm left handed and I used to cut my self when I was a kid now I stay away from them 😰
I love how it's like you're a kid in a candy shop with these pedals. They're all so much fun.
Speaking of being a kid in a candy shop, I'm calling your parents to supervise your scissor antics.
HAHAH my mom is the one who homeschooled me growing up so I'm blaming her for my terrible scissor-wielding skillz 😂❤️
@@emilyharpist homeschooled crafting represent!
The graphic changes behind the lilac looper were a nice touch
hahah thank you so much 🥰
How can people not adore this channel. I always come away with smiles 😍
hahah thank you so much for being here with us!! I really appreciate you and I'm so glad we can help make you smile!! ❤️🥰
That strawberry one looked as if it was therapeutic to play with - these are excellent.
it really was!! I can't believe how much circuitry Different Noises fit inside that tiny enclosure! 🤯 it's so cool!!
I'm so thankful for the joy y'all bring in your pedal explorations.
Those are some impressive pedals and synths. I also think you may have convinced me I need a Microcosm ...
Thank you 🙏
hahah thank YOU, Scott!! I really appreciate that! ❤️🥰 Microcosm is by far my favorite effects pedal of all time (so I guess I'm biased) but I seriously can't recommend it enough; it makes everything sound AMAZING 🎉
The last pedal you used has such a pretty and relaxing sound. It made me want to lay down, relax and sleep.
right?!? I loved playing through that one ❤️🥰
"Did you know no one taught me how to use scissors? I figured it out all by myself"
Yeah actually we could tell 😂
LMFAOOOO russ hates when I do unboxings 😂❤️
@@emilyharpist I'm with Russ on this. It's like watching my dad with a box knife. I cringe every time.
@@blaisebaileyfinnegan
😣
Is she done?
Can I open my eyes yet?
😳
While I gotta agree with many others on your scissors use, I love the joy that comes from your unboxing. I also love the 8 bit psychedelic sound.
haha thank you so much, Gary! ❤️🥰 I'm gonna be way more careful with those scissors in the future, don't worry 😂
@@emilyharpist As a lefty, I had to learn how to use scissors in a way to me that felt backwards, so I understand the awkwardness (as well as the concern that other people have).
Wilhelm at Different Noises makes some of the coolest pedals I’ve seen. I have one pedal by the company that I still haven’t even heard yet. They were super cool and sent me a blank pedal so I could have my friend paint it custom for me, so I’m still waiting on that. That Lilac looper was beautiful sounding though
Hey man, I appreciate you! You better send pics one day when that pedal is painted.

Emily: *plays the harp beautifully, makes people cry and wonder with precise touches of years upon years of training*
Also Emily: C H A OS
just a joy to watch you play with all these gadgets :) Loved Emily's little Skrillex moments with the Strawmberrysynth and the later free jazz exploration with the 8-button thing
it's Li-LACK because lilac LACKS any interest as a color imo (shots fired) BUT the looper is dope.
Different Noises ears the award for Most Inviting Devices; I look at those things and without even plugging them in I just want to turn every knob and press every button.
HAHAH 😂❤️ SHOTS FIRED LMFAO
Seriously, I think Different Noises should win an award for most unique and inviting pedals; I wanted to play with those devices for hours!!!
There's literally nothing that doesn't sound absolutely great with a microcosm!
agreed!! ❤️👏
I WANT ONE SO BAD
Omg I laughed out loud at the THX, and at one point you were so close to sounding like the Benny Benassi song “satisfaction” lol amazing
HAHAH omg I have to go back and listen for that 😂❤️
@@emilyharpist ⚠️ warning ⚠️ it will then get stuck in your head!!
So cool!!! Those pedals look and sound amazing.
I bet if someone sent you doorknobs, and you made a video.....
I’d be wanting some doorknobs!
You are awesome. Thank you for sharing.
hahah thank you so much, Tommy!! I really appreciate that! ❤️🥰 thanks for being here with us!
So many synth pedals!
I thought the sounds were going to be somewhat limited in possibilities but having them paired up with the other pedals you already had made them sound GRAND.
Also... We need more happy strawberry dances!
HAHAH I can DEFINITELY do more strawberry dances in the future -- I love this little thing!! 😂❤️🍓
You now have the perfect equipment for lo-fi compositions, add a couple of stoner friends and fun's assured
I KNOW RIGHT?!? 😂❤️ I gotta host a party soon
Your coffee cup is so right! Love the delight of discovering stuff. See? Now you've done all these cool pedal effects videos which I really enjoy. So people send you stuff to make more videos with the stuff. Next time try using a curved carpet knife to open boxes. Forget the scissors...
Thanks Emily!!!
Groovy gear! Hope all is well with you. Haven’t been on the tubes as much lately but always check your videos. Would ramble more but trying not to aggravate my hand any more than necessary. Protect those carpal tunnels muh dear! Warm ups and stretching!
thank you so much!! I hope all is well with you too; I really appreciate you always stopping by!! it means so much to me 🥺❤️ rest your hands as much as you can!! I've come to terms with the fact that I'm -probably- definitely going to get carpal tunnel one day from all the harpin'!
Oh the big Red stepped-tone generator / Atari Punk Console into the Microcosm sounds just sublime
right?!? I love how they sounded together!! ❤️🥰
I'm really envious, I absolutely love collecting pedals and especially rare/handmade-with love ones!!
Find someone that looks at you like emily looks at russ when he brings out the microcosm
LMAOOO true love! 🥺❤️
Comment of the day 👍🙂
That is relationship goals right there
I would look at Russ like that too if he brought out a Microcosm for me!
Very neat new gifts you got Emily!! I started building some of these things last year and loved it. I think you should look into building your own synths too. It's very easy to start and super satisfying when you get one going. Cheers and great vlog!! Thank you both!!
thank you so much for watching, Doug!! ❤️🥰 that's actually a long-term goal of mine! I'm studying programming and electronics now, practicing with my breadboards and Arduino to learn about basic circuits. I would LOVE to create something even HALF as cool as what Different Noises makes!! They are seriously #BuilderGOALS for me! 🎉
These are all so amazing. Love that answering machine tape looper dealio.
The amount of anxiety i get from Em using scissors is incredible lmao. These pedals are awesome!
lmfaoooo nobody ever taught me 🥺❤️😂 aren't the pedals so cool?!? I love everything about them (especially the designs!!)
I'm enjoying watching you fall down the synth diy rabbit hole.
lmaooo hELP ME 🕳️🐇
I always found modular synths interesting, how a single tone routed through a bunch of magic boxes can pretty much give you a melody by hitting one button. What's also interesting is that I never really listened to harp before I found this channel. Now I'm watching all of them :)
Strawberry synth arp combo is SICK
right?!? I was strawberry JAMMIN' 😂❤️🍓
@@emilyharpist Strawberry Jammin' should be the name of your next album
This video freaked my cat out. Calmly sitting in my lap and now staring at the computer monitor sitting on my desktop.
HAHAH TELL HIM / HER I'M SO SORRY 🐱❤️
That looper is something magical ❤️❤️❤️
Thank you very much!
it really is!! ❤️🥰
Noise fun-very cool pedals. Thanks Emily and Russ.
So much fun!! Thanks Chris ❤️
that looper pedal is absolutely nuts. my jaw dropped immediately when it started looping. it's so dirty! super cool device.
Favorite video of yours so far...I probably say everytime 😂 When you pulled those first two out I totally said strawberry and chocolate right before you 🥰 Super fun to watch even though I care nothing about synths haha
HAHAH the fact that we thought the same thing is PROOF that those synths are named appropriately!! 😂❤️ thank you so much for being here with us, Heidi! I'm so glad you're enjoying the channel! 🥰🥰🥰
Fun zone with fun berry 💕
😂❤️ SO MUCH FUN
bro that strawberry got me feeling some type of way love the vid emily
thank you so much ❤️🥰 I'm in love with that lil' strawberry one 🍓
Also.. those are some awesome pedals for lo fi...AWESOME!!
Agreed!! I love how unique they all are! 🥰🎉
You frighten me with those scissors!!!
hahah I'M SORRY ❤️🥺
So fun! I laughed so hard when she says "less scary" and the very next thing is a sound that's even MORE SCARY! lol
Lmaoooo 😂 😆
Your assistant is SOOO bossy. You were doing great with the scissors.
I don't think anyone ever explicitly showed me how to use them, but I think that in arts and crafts class, we learned by watching people cut construction paper for projects, and then trying to do that ourselves.
That said, a knife is much better for cutting open boxes. 😆
HAHAH thank you!! next time I'm using a ceramic box cutter for SURE 🤭❤️ and lmao Russ isn't bossy he just cares so much about me!! 😂
Yay! Synths! Instruments I understand :)
aren't they awesome?! ❤️🥰
those are cool sound maker. so much possibly. love them
right?! I love builders who create such wonderful and different things like these! 🥰❤️
Quality banter. You guys are very entertaining.
Your inevitable journey towards modular synths continues…
hahah don't remind me!! 😂❤️ I'm Googling modular synths nearly every day now...
@@emilyharpist if you take the plunge, start with VCV rack on a computer, or MiRack on an iPad. It’ll help you get your bearings before jumping into hardware Eurorack. Or try a really cool semi modular synth, like the Dreadbox Erebus 3 or Nyx 2. Maybe a moog mother 32, or a Behringer neutron. They’ll be full systems that you can totally expand on later, and your pedal collection will really bring anything to life in a big way right from the start.
your reaction to new pedals is so priceless and cute ahahah :)
hahah it's one of the best feelings!! ❤️🥰🎉 I love that new pedal day feel!
I suggest you invest a $ or two and buy a box cutter. They are ideal for slicing tape. I normally wince when I see people open packets with a blade but the efforts with your scissors was like watching a no-net-trapeze: one slip and its all over.
I feel like this is the best (and safest) option for me -- a ceramic blade!!: kikkerland.com/products/bird-box-cutter
(bonus points that it's adorably-shaped)
The Lilac is the most violent looper I've heard
hahah I know right?!? I love it!! 😂👏❤️ I believe Different Noises is currently working on an updated version of this looper pedal! instagram.com/tv/CZIcWU5onrn/?
7:52 is very good we love synth machines
❤️🥰
You guys have all the fun!
With the joy from the strawberry, I fully expect Emily to fall down the black hole of modular synthesis any day now.
it's already happening ❤️🥺 pls send help
@@emilyharpist as someone who is orbiting the blackhole myself, I'm not sure I want to 😂 I do suggest the somewhat semi-modular MicroFreak: such an amazing synth at a surprising price!
Oh, I think the first 3 are variations of the Atari Punk Console circuit. The chocolate one uses a 556 timer michaelchip and the first 2 use a 555 chip(son of Michaelchip). Synthrotec makes a 556 APC kit that’s makes a great easy diy project.
The strawberry is a 40106, the s’mores is a 4093, the other two are indeed 555 based however. All circuits and layouts can be found on my website.
@@differentnoises431 Thanks, I may have been too confident in my deductions lol.
Those are some really cool peddles. I could use them in my arsenal. Be cool and stay blessed.
I like how the strawberry sounds like a fart at the bottom of the pitch range. rofl. By the way, you could hold the strawberry button with your toe and then have both hands free for chair dancing. It is awesome how simple the strawberry is, too! The microcosm creating a horror sound track was hilarious, too.
Watching emily playing with the strawberry synth is my new favourite way to cheer up when feel down :D
hahah this lil' thing makes me so happy!! 🥰❤️
I don't know if you've seen this, but Bastl Instruments makes a very tiny drum synth, thr B drum Kastel. It's very small, and very cool. Buying one as soon as my disability check comes in February. Just thought you might like it.
6:42 *NEW SAMPLE DETECTED*
actually, if Emily ever reads this, should i still need to buy a track if i want to recreate a sample from one of these videos with soft synths (in other words, interpolate)? It's kind of a moral dilemma I've been having recently, as i really liked that one video where you sent the harp thru the Nepenthes and a reverb, but the tempo isn't as constant as I'd like for the song i have in mind 🤔
lilac looper. the texture. it sounds like the one I am always going for when making my songs. sooooo lovely! 🤩 I have a song called "light lilac" cuz it's one of my fave colors 😎 in a perfect world I'd be able to afford all those beauties. oh, btw, some people can cut themselves with scissors 🙄 haha. your videos are precious. lots of mouth-watering effects and fun. thanks! ❤️
Hahaha I love the lilac looper!!! AND the color!!! 😊 And yes, I was DEFINITELY wrong about scissors 😂
@@emilyharpist haha 🤣🤩
Wow what a wonderful toys!👍👍
Whoever it was a few videos ago that wanted your channel to just be you struggling to open packages has just had their dreams come true
LMFAOOOO omg you're so right 😂❤️
you had me at crochet bag!!
right?!? ❤️🥰 I absolutely love the bag, I always wished I knew how to crochet!!
My wife made that!
5:15 is very TRON-ish. I love it!
Omg you’re so right!!
Id be playing with that synthesizer stuff all day
hahah SAME!! this was the most fun I've had in a while!!
Cool stuff, and website!
That different vibe was different. Probably it wanted a different input signal. I've heard that sound when a pedal didn't like a synth I was using.
The looper sounded hot, as in overdriven, in a good way. That's a good one.
This is such a fun video!
thank you so much!! this was the most fun I've had in a while!! ❤️🥰
I'm extremely conflicted when I say - Emily please get a knife! My scissors are literally razor-sharp and the tension in that intro was incredible
I bet you can play all the Rage Against The Machine solos on that strawberry
HAHAH I'm gonna pick up one of those ceramic box cutters shaped like a cute lil' bird so it won't be as intimidating or anxiety-inducing 😂❤️ and YESSSS lmao that's exactly what I was planning on doing!!!
@@emilyharpist Aww yiss, see this is why you vibe with everyone!
more like fraise against the machine
LMFAOOOOOO BEST JOKE I’VE HEARD ALL WEEK 😂👏🍓
she's doing fine with the scissors, leave her alone. you're always safer when you have more control over the knife/scissors. cutting away from yourself is often more dangerous because you have less control over the edge.
THANK YOU ❤️🥺❤️
you can tell you are home schooled becouse you are so chill and relaxed XD :D love you.
I have both sheer joy and PTSD from hearing Mario Sunshine music in the background 😂
HAHAH that one level with the electric manta rays KILLS ME 😂❤️
@@emilyharpist I still quake in fear at the jazzy Mario theme indicating one of the secret levels!
HAHAHA YES ME TOO 😂😂😂
“What do you mean I can’t use my F.L.U.D.D?!?!”
@@emilyharpist 😂😂 they're so deceptive with that cheerful music. It hides the screams. "Is he throwing his hands in the air in utter despair? No no, it's just jazz hands, I promise, listen to how catchy this tune is!"
LMFAOOO FOR REAL 😂😂😂
The strawberry is just a simple oscillator. It is the main building block of synthesis. The spider man is basically the same with another control over the waveform possibly. The smores is just 1 more oscillator added to the spider man. The black one with white speckles is actually just one oscillator with a control voltage keyboard. The control voltage controls the voltage sent to the oscillator changing its pitch. It's pretty cool. The oscillator circuit by itself is pretty basic, but most oscillators can have 4 different waveforms, and accept voltage into it by other things and allow you to put in an LFO. The LFO is just like an oscillator but it works with very low frequencies. It creates effects like modulation and tremolo. Pretty cool right? There is a free program you can download if you would like to explore modular synthesis. It's called VCV rack. It can be somewhat frustrating at first, but you figure it out eventually. There is also a huge library with like 1500 free modules, so the only limit is your creativity. It's honestly really cool. Omri Cohen is the master of that program, so his videos are worth checking out if you are interested.
Awwww, it's such a cute haul! Made me check out the makers. I'm a bit worried about reliability of the pedals, given that they're built on perfboards that seem unattached to the box - personally I'd make them more solid. But they sound nice :)
And yes, you're the best fckn harpist ever!
It’s not perfboard it’s soldered to stripboard and they are attached via cable ties. I also have a lifetime warranty, as long as I’m able to still solder I’ll fix anything. Much love!
@@differentnoises431 OK, thanks for clarification :)
I really love your design, and was a bit concerned about the engineering part. Keep up the good work!
I love Russ being so concerned for you. TBH, I was too.
hahah we're ordering a ceramic box cutter for next time 😂❤️
That looper sounds wonderful o.O
right?!? I believe Different Noises is working on an updated / revised version of that pedal now!! Check it out on their Instagram! instagram.com/tv/CZIcWU5onrn/?
@@emilyharpist Thx!
I want those so bad but it would also be terrible because I already never practice and this would make it worse. I’d finally decide to practice and then make drone-y video game music for 9 hours
HAHAH I KNOW IT'S SO BAD I could spend hours with these!!! 🤭❤️ they're so much fun!
Mario sunshine soundtrack is AWESOME !! delfino plaza as background music nice touch
hahah thank you so much!!! that's one of my all-time favorite games! :) ❤️
The highest-speed Lilac Looper sounded like a cursed ice cream van LOL
😂 I SHOULD HAVE PLAYED THE MISTER SOFTEE SONG
I need to know more about this scissors-specific spidey sense that you have
LMAOOO well now I'm learning that a LOT of people have cut their fingers on scissors before so maybe it really is just me who has a special spidey-scissor-sense that has kept me alive and cut-free so far 😂❤️
Scissors are not for opening boxes; that’s what knives are for. Those pedals are beautiful.
Learned scissors on your own... that explains a lot.. and I've cut my fingers with scissors before
I'm learning that so many people have cut themselves with scissors, I gotta be more careful!! 🤯🤭❤️
strengths: delight, exploration. weaknesses: scissors, lilac
you are going to have so much fun when you get a THEREMIN.
hahah YES I actually put a theremin together recently on my breadboard (a very simple and basic theremin) and I LOVED IT!!
Scissors are for cutting paper. Box cutters are for cutting boxes.
🤔 that makes sense
Music producers of the near future:
- guys we need more of a red song now. We can’t have an album full of purple songs
That Lilac pedal has such aggressive vaporwave energy
As someone who has been cut by scissors: You definitely can get cut with scissors
❤️🥺 I am going to be WAY more careful from now on!!
@@emilyharpist good! As entertaining as it has been seeing you use scissors, it gives me the fear 😂
i feel like being taught how to use scissors is probably something no one remembers and everyone probably does it differently, when opening a package i tend to use them like a knife and sort of try to neatly slice through the tape.
I love these videos and these pedals. I must acquire some!
love the mario sunshine music
hahaha SAME I'm replaying it now on Switch! 🥰
They're all so pretty!
That RYGB color box is my favourite. Sleep well.
I've never seen anything like that before!! it's so cool! he definitely earned his rest 😂❤️

@@emilyharpist will keep my eyes out for that!
I want someone to send me some random synths! That's so rad! And I really like that looper. Its so lo-fi and hip! Right? The kids like lo-fi, right? Or is it middle-aged millennials like me with a soft spot for nostalgia that are into that?

.
Oh! And I'm so glad you guys brought out the Microcosm. I just can't get enough! 😉
hahah getting a box of synths and pedals is a literal DREAM 😂❤️ I had so much fun with this!!! and lmaooo I think it's just us middle-aged millennials but I feel the same exact way 🥺

You should totally get your music out there on the Metal Head Hippie channel on youtube. So many different musicians ready for collaboration.
Very fun! Though, man, nobody ever sends _me_ three boxes of synths and pedals - I've had to build my own.
(I think I actually have a version of the one you were calling the spider synth - it sounds like a version of the classic Atari Punk Console. Good stuff.)
you too can hire emily 'stump fingers' hopkins, the scissor accident victim, to play the harp for you!
LMFAOOOO 😂❤️ I genuinely laughed out loud reading your comment, thank you so much for that hahaha
You enjoyed the synth pedals so much, I could suggest you to look into Eurorack synths^^ There you can build all kinds of synth beasts out of different modules (hence it's also called modular synths sometimes). Eurorack synths (because you patch the sounds yourself) are open to all kinds of sound craziness, you could build together an army of strawberry synths if you want (slight exageration maybe :-D ). Great video^^
Always remember to cut towards others and away from yourself
🤭❤️
The strawberry is very cute
I love all these devices but if I had to pick a favorite, it's probably the strawberry! 🥰🎉🍓
Severe anxiety with those scissor skills
