Let's Model and Rig a WIZARD in 10 MINUTES - Blender 2.83 - Ep. 35

- Episode 35 of the 10 Minute Modeling Challenge - In this video I model and rig a Low Poly Wizard. In the bonus material I animate it and use Blend Shapes to animate blinking of eyes. The video is longer than 10 minutes because I do an annoying 4 minute intro and then also add some bonus material at the end with tips and tricks in Blender :)

Additional info:
I've been modeling in Blender since about 2015 but more recently in the past couple of years. I've been making games and assets in Unity since 2011 and I'm currently working on a multiplayer RTS game that I'll be happy to announce later this year.
I use a Canon Lumix GH5 camera to record my videos with the Olympus 17mm F1.2 lens as well as the Laowa F2.0 7.5mm compact dreamer lens. Sometimes I also use a GoPro Hero 8, a Insta360 One X and a Sony rx100 mark vii. For audio I use a Rode NTG shotgun microphone connected to a RME Fireface UFX II sound card.
Thanks a lot for watching and sharing my videos :)
You make everything look so easy
I tried to learn blender 4-5 times in the past. I was only able to learn blender after I found this channel. Try the way he does, its actually quite simple.
"model a wizard in 10 minutes (after 10 years of learning blender)"
I think that's his talent. He doesn't over think things. It's actually brilliant :-)
E to extrude, S to scale.
Its mostly all about techniques tbh.. for Characters i use blender to get the general shape and then use nomad on my ipad ( or any zsculpting app would work as well) and go in with all the details. Eyes, hands and face can be harder but if youd like you could use a Character creator such as CC3 and then adjust in afterwards. For animation you can start playing with Mixamo from adobe and then from their rig you could work some customs animations once you are comfortable
24 hour livestream? It’s going to take me like 2 months to watch that.
I hope with all the fantasies things lately we can see low polygon Werewolf and other creatures!
Ooh, that would be interesting!
That would be so cool!
Is it just me, or can this video literally be used as a tutorial?
It's not meant to be a tutorial, yet it's better than 100% of tutorials... Amazing!
I've watched all your 10-min challenges and they never get old, always learn something and beyond that it's just inspirational seeing you accomplish these with such limited time. Once my daughter grows older, I'll make her watch your videos too. Great job.
You son of a cube, you did it again!
Congrats on your videos, you make a massive contribution to the CG community with your stuff.
Would love to see a proper tutorial, particularly with the import into Unity, for the Shade Keys! I learn so much in these 10 minute vids and I really appreciate you sharing them with the community.
three days in and I am hooked, its going to take a LONG time for me to be able to model freely like this but boy oh boy is this stuff fun!
There is loads of information in this tutorial! Definitely a re-watch for me!
every tutorial i watch i just end up clapping because you never cease to amaze me ! thank you very much for you hard work we sure appreciate it.
inspires me to make my characters and rig them . amazing job man . you make it look so simple . always thought it was too difficult . Keep it up love these videos.👍
Really looking forward to 24 hours of joy! Grattis till 100k!
Tack så mycket! Will be fun to do the stream :)
Congrats on reaching 100k subscribers👍👍👍
Thank you!!
Me the whole video: "Looks so great!"
Imphenzia at the end: "Maybe it's not the best fold of the robe here…"
Me at the end: "Are you kidding me…?"
@Imphenzia, this is (as always) an impressing 10-minute job!
I still play around with Blender doing some simple rocks out of that cube and I need easily half an hour, although I just use the Randomizer tools on some selected faces.
@Imphenzia, I would love to see you modelling either some kind of star ship bridge (maybe some diorama kind of a Star Trek alike ship bridge, not necessarily the one from any of the different USS Enterprise versions, but maybe just "Star Trek-ish" including some control panels and a captain's chair and such stuff) or a cockpit of a star fighter (a pilot's POV as if you are sitting in an X-Wing from Star Wars or in the Arwing from Starfox or something like that including a steering stick and some knobs and controls).
Keep up the good work. Lookin' forward your Low-Poly marathon. 👍
Congrats On 100K Subscribers !!
I love this 10 min series of this....
I never got bored by seeing this.
Thank you
The lame joke at the 10 minute mark is GOLD
Just wanted to say that im really liking this series and it's making me consider learning blender so i can make 3d animations
It's doing a job! Great!
It's really best project I saw on UA-cam about blender low ploly animation 💕💕💕
Finally 100k subs
Congrats 🥳
Thank yo - yes, super excited :)
Sjukt grymt! blev väldigt inspererad!
you have grown nice and steady. found a sweet niche on the platform. ironically i came for audio and subbed for the 10 min challenge, keep ticking over man, well earned
This is the most athletic gait I've ever seen on a wizard

Love your fan - we have them in Canada too. Just cant handle the heat. Loved your vid. Good luck on your 100 k.
yes sir, best tutorials ever
I wanna start designing video-games as a hobby (and hopefully turn into a career) and man, I absolutely love your art style. Learning a lot from you
This is realy super mega perfect. Thanks
great stuff . every cg artist here is unique in his own way .
Congratulations 100k!
Thank you!!
Need separate blinky eyes tutorial with unity import.
Dude, you are a legend!
Your content is awesome, keep up the good work.
the wife and i love all your videos!
You are the best 🙌... And also you are a good tutor.. Love your job man👌
CONGRATULATIONS BUDDY FOR 100K subs
Thanks!! I'm thrilled about it :)
I can't believe I missed the premiere. I thought it was Wednesday today. Shape Keys are a very good feature in Blender, and can be controlled with drivers as well.
I love the blinking!!!!
100K is coming soon. 👍👍
Wonderful Magician. I've learned animation. Thank you. Have a great day~
100k congrats man
Thank you so much 😀
For those struggling to find how to add the human, you need to enable the rigify add-on first
Congratulation for 100K of subscribers
Thank you very much! I'm very happy :)
Hey Imphenzia can you make tutorial how to import blender animation to unity animation using controls
I'm not sure what you mean by "using controls" but Imphenzia made a video showing how to import animations and models to unity! ua-cam.com/video/vrN9duEoA6g/v-deo.html
@@An3Dev he is maybe telling of the controls like of movements, and of all other animations like interact etc.
@@An3Dev i meant about interactive animations in unity, like walking, crouch, jump using keys
@@priyanshudivyanshu yes
@@medhavimonish41 oh ok that would be a cool tutorial
2:56 the timestamp you looking for
i've been re-familiarizing myself with shape keys. a full tutorial wouldn't hurt.
2.83.5 blender waiting for you )
I wish if there Rig and Character tutorials 👌🏻
Yeah U cant really find any good rig tutorials for 2.8 ^^ would be nice
You can watch his videos at a slower speed and pause often while you try what he says in Blender. However, if you are new to Blender like me, I suggest printing out a "cheat sheet" of keyboard shortcuts/commands to reference while you are following his videos. He has great tips and info spread out through his videos.
@@sirkuchen1501 watch this at a slower speed if you need a rigging tutorial: ua-cam.com/video/TZDnV4KshM8/v-deo.html
Jon Starritt but he just spawns a rig out of nowhere that doesnt help me

This, exactly. Blender has a great 3D Viewport imo, but requires patience to learn all the commands and how to build stuff. Repeatedly following build processes by replicating processes such as these 10 minute build a low poly videos will help internalize the commands necessary to build things in your mind. Learning requires patience and diligence.
For some reason I can’t see the flatten option when I press f3. Can someone help?
Ok I figured it out I needed to install looptools add on
Go to Edit>Preferences, enable Mesh:Loop Tool. Selec the area that you want to flat, right click, click on loop tools and, after, FLATTEN. Hope I helped, have a nice day.
I once had a hard time with copying the same shapekeys to different objects! never knew there was a way to automatically copy. I had to do it all by hand so thanks for the tip
Imphenzia is the real wizard here
Muchas gracias amigo. Excelente tutorial.
This man is trying to make these models in a short amount of time while I've been modelling my donut for the past 2 hours
Much awaited live stream woohoo ! seems like we will learn lot .
any tutorial will be apriciated t.b.h., just starting out and you're a great help.
As usual great tips and very simple to follow. You always provide quality info. The shape keys video and getting those into Unity I think will be very well appreciate it since there is not good videos that show how to do it properly ;p
One low poly wizard modelling and rigging another!
it's so nice and beautiful your model. I really appreciate it.
I love your channel
Hi! Very great channel!
Hello from St.Petersburg and thanks for tutor)
I've never seen shape keys done that way before. I think I'll try it that way next time.
Great Tutorial as usual. Yes, please do the Shape Key tutorial, I'd love to learn how to bring this into Unity. Well done on the massive increase in subscribers by the way!
Congrats for 100K
Thank you!!
Great video again, ...much thanks! LIKED~
It's not necessary to duplicate your mesh object in order to create a shape key. You can use the shape key list in the properties window to add a new shape key to your mesh, and so long as you have that shape key selected when you are in Edit Mode, you will edit that shape key.
You had a nice Knight in the beginning of the Head :)
Thank you sir
Create a separate shape keys tutorial and how to import them to unity, please. And I would like to see how you can import a hood, ponytail or something else and make it as physicaly based cloth animation in unity. That would be awsome.
it was great
Thanks for these awesome tutorials. I follow along and end up getting something close to your final model. Any chance you could model some helicopters next ? Something like the sci-fi tank you did last time.
Well I know who to look to when I do characters
+1 for a more detailed shape-keys tutorial!
How can you get that “cavity” style look in an actual eevee or cycles render?
He shows it in his blender settings video i think
Hi Imphenzia. Great tutorial. Waiting for your 24 hr livestream! Can you model, rig and animate some animals, like a dog, an eagles, or a shark maybe.
Hi, thanks - glad you like it! I'm moving the stream to 5/9 as I'm a bit sick at the moment, but I'll be doing mostly characters for that one that will share the same armature and animations with each other. Maybe I'll get some animals in too though, we'll see. Otherwise, I should make a video on that. Today is a dinosaur btw =)
Shape keys looks epic, please make a full tuto :) thanks
You should do low poly superheroes
I recommend #dikko for detail rigging or #Lollypopman for deeper explanation on rigging. Good tut as always. Thank you sir.
Thanks for those tips!
I tried making some shape keys. Yes, can you do it as an in depth tutorial? Either way, I love your videos.
Thanks, yes I will make a tutorial o that.
wow thanks
A tutorial on Shape Keys would be great!
24hr live stream
Will have to change your name from
Imphenzia to Insomnia
You're great
As usual, great tutorial! It'd be really useful to see how you import animations into Unity. I'm currently struggling with some of my animations that show differently in Unity compared to what they are in Blender (weird rotations)
I don't see the superchat option here, but I will look for it in the livestream
U r really pro❤️
What did you do at 18:28 ff? It seems the video cutting has taken away too much... (I guess you moved the arms towards the torso, but I have no idea how to do that, since at this place you say "Since we have inverse kinematics..." [CUT])
Thank you!
26th, git 100k good job man
Thanks, got there :) Now on to the next target.
Praying Mantis in 10 Minutes? - also love the content, learning so much!
Awesome!!! Could you do a wolf or dog some time? I want to see how to rig the walk for a 4 legged creature. :)
I don't understand, whenever I follow this exact method and use automirror or just apply the mirror modifier in the modifier tab manually, it just creates a copy of the entire object and doesn't mirror properly. Is there some setting you have which prevents that?
How do I get all those colors man...plzz tell
What tool are you using for displaying the yellowed keyboard and mouse strokes?
Hello. Thank you for the video. Please I have a problem. While trying to move the arm of my character, the cloth becomes deformed in the process
Looking forward to the 24 hour stream.
Thank you so much for this tutorial. I am a begginer user of Blender and your tips helps a lot. I followed up all you instructions for the creation of the wizzard. I also decided to add fingers in both hands and one staff in the right hand. Here is a question : Once adding an object (in this case the staff in one hand) Is there a way to link it to the rig? How i can do this easily?
Did you ever do your shape key tutorial?
I NEED THIS TUTORAIL MAN
Super Sir
Thanks!
Is LowPolyRacing series dead?
