I thought that the main use of Cesium would be to save real landscapes. Can you extract the topographic data from this? And save as landscape templates.
Yeah this would be great, but this video is just a showcase of the tech itself, I'm not 100% sure on this query so check with the Cesium guys. Let us all know if you find out :)
Hi I loved the video a lot I was just wondering if this could be used to create a simulation using unreal engine to test certain things. Basically can you place an object on the ground in the world or would it just fly off the map.
I think I might have to take a look at Unreal Engine again. A lot of projects we deal with are in fairly rural locations though so possibly wont get the full benefit as the city examples you've used but could be useful to a degree?
Good point on the rural locations and lack of 3d data, double check these locations within the browser version first, I'd suggest. But, yeah still worth a try as you can control the resolution of the shot and lighting etc, no matter what 3d data is available :)
The thing with renderdoc or any similar plugin is, it is impossible to capture detailed geometry when it has a lot of uneven elevation (even at max minus zoom and closeup). I tried stitching Positano bay, it was a nightmare. When captured in a large scale the geometry looks fine with textures but when you zoom in to remodel, its mostly distorted triangles. Maybe this works fine with cities on even surface and high rises.
Hi thanks for the tutorial, can I remove or mask a section or a building and put my own building in there. It would be nice to have an environment from real location where I am making new plans for an old building
Very cool! Congratulations on the high-value content with detailed explanation. Can you tell if it would be possible to take buildings from some parts of the map and use them in other parts of the map? My idea is to take a few buildings from a city and Copy them to a vegetation zone and animate them popping up from the ground in that area.
I don't think so, but this video was purely to showcase its potential and availability to raise awareness, my technical understanding of such a query is limited so I would reach out to Cesium themselves.
I've been going through this process for hours. I get to 3:02 "create a new level" my screen doesn't go blank and then The URL replacement is not working and I don't get the rendering.
What are the chances of me being able to use this to make a game, like would I be able to make it so the buildings are dynamic (can change based on player, NPC and weather actions) and have interiors?
Thanks for watching and for the nice comment, the only other software I'm aware of is Blender that can 'handle' this sort of thing. It's not strictly geometry you see, it's the maps data itself so it needs to be more sophisticated than just a rendering programme.
I don’t think so, it’s based on streaming the data as far as I know but the tech has come on since posting this video so check their website out; Cesium.
What’s the different between loading the api google maps key from url and log in with cesium website directly (with big logo on left button) ? Looks the same to me. Thanks ! Great video
@@ArchAdemia Actually, the issue is that, in the video, you say to go to the Cesium website to copy a URL for the Cesium3DTileSet. But the Cesium website you link to (in both the video and the description) does not have that URL in it. I even tried to copy the URL by looking at the video and that returns an error in the Unreal output log. So maybe Cesium changed how this works?
So i was wondering if it would be possible to make an open world game using this method. Something like Flight simulator. Does someone know if it is possible?
Ah I'm so sorry, I can't really offer support, all I wanted to do with this video was introduce it to our audience as a tool to show off their projects. Maybe reach out to Cesium to learn more :)
Under outliner, click on CsiumSunSky. Then under details of CsiumSunSky, look for the Date and Time. Change the to your timezone. It is black because there is different timezone which indicates night in your location.
My question is: Since UE5 & Cesium is a modeling engine for renderug an environment in gaming (primarily) and available for commercial products such as using it for the open world environment of a game, shouldn't it be possible to package all this shit up and release it as an explorable world with all of the functionality you're presenting here, possibly even being marketed and sold as such that's optimized for a given platform, like Playstation 5 or Xbox 360 or whatever? PC / Windows 11 or possibly even Debian? Obviously it would require a sick fuckin internet connection, but given that's not an issue, wouldn't this be able to be packaged and written to Blu-ray as a "game" or just simply an explorable environment that's a 1:1 representation of the actual planet earth? Is that feasible? Would it be buggy af and therefore not worth it at the end of the day, or would it be possible to work out all the kinks eventually and have it as an executable game on a disc that could be inserted into a platform with a decent internet connection and have it render on any Playstation its inserted and loaded into? Just wondering if this will eventually be sold and someone like myself who has no idea how to do all this sorcery so that I can put it into the drive of a PS4 or PS5 and have all of the exploration abilities and ease of use built into its functionality? Is it something that could even be sold? I assume since it's using a commercial engine for rendering and using Google APIs and such those companies would expect their slice of the revenue, but that's an assumption on my part since I don't actually have any idea and merely attempting to anticipate potential snags that would prevent this dream (for me, at least) executable environment be commercially available for purchase so that I can fly around the world like I already do with Google Earth Pro except the environment is turbocharged and roided out like this demonstration.. Please tell me it's coming to market soon.. Google Earth Pro is my favorite all time app and time killer for me, just never gets old flying around Machu Picchu & Venice, Italy, etc.. So, all bullshit aside, having this available for me to plug & play is wet dream material, seriously.. Shutupandtakemymoney.jpg
Yeah all of the videos are showing how to use as video or a picture. Unreal is a game engine why am I not seeing someone drive or walk through these imported environments....?
@JoeLouisPepsi yeah, good point, if you mean it should have an avatar or representative character on the screen that you can use to walk around the pyramids or Macchu Picchu etc
So right now the tech DOES exist but it's years and years from being practical for game development. Of course Microsoft Flight Simulator is the only current example of this being done and even then it takes massive data centers with AI and procedural algorithms to make anything like that possible. AAA development teams at Rockstar and Sony use this as a reference for placing their manually built assets. Now I've seen people use google heightmaps for landscapes though to help create realistic terrain. For how MFS did it check out this video mini documentary. ua-cam.com/video/0w7q1ZFfsxs/v-deo.html

I love you.
Honest man
Honest teachings
Honest medium of exchange for information.
Thank you sir.
Man I finally found quality work
you know your api key showed on the console when you hitted enter right? I would deactivate that key... if you didn't already...
Sorted, thanks!
Nice work.
Thank you from Liverpool 🌸
Thanks a lot, fellow scouser :)
cool video thanks! is it possible to take a place in the scene and exporting it as a 3D Stl. file to 3D Print ?
Hi there, thanks for this comment/query but you'll have to check with the guys at Cesium to be sure.

Can you save the landscape like a mesh and edit it / paint over it or something? Or is it just streaming the data whenever the level is loaded?
I think it's just streamed only, every time I turned the camera stuff would un-load and re-load.
How would you make a google api mini map in a ui window for when you're traversing? Similar to the map view in google maps, that would be fantastic!
Hi there, thanks for this comment/query but you'll have to check with the guys at Cesium to be sure.
Excellent video!
Thanks so much for watching and taking the time to comment.

Yep fair comment, this is best for aerial shots really.

Yeah this would be ideal, check with the Cesium guys to be sure though.

Great video. Does this work in any other render software? Like D5. Thanks

Is it possible to extract a determined area and use its meshes in a game?
I don’t think so, it’s based on streaming the data as far as I know but the tech has come on since posting this video so check their website out; Cesium.

Well, can we take a section from here and make a scene or landscapes?
Hi there, thanks for this comment/query but you'll have to check with the guys at Cesium to be sure.
so can you use this to make a fps map ?
Does this only work on areas that have 3d maps available? Im desperately trying to find good maps of saudi arabia
Hi there, thanks for this comment/query but you'll have to check with the guys at Cesium to be sure.
Does that work on any city? There are some cities in google earth that doesn't have the 3d view
Hi there, thanks for this comment/query but you'll have to check with the guys at Cesium to be sure.
Awesome. Thank you.
No probs
Cesium doesn't appear to be working with the current version of Unreal Engine anymore. Any other options?
Hi there, thanks for this comment/query but you'll have to check with the guys at Cesium to be sure.
Can this be used to make a game ?
OOOOOO that looks LIT 🔥🔥🔥🔥
It’s amazing isn’t it 🤯 and everything is free. Loads of things you can do with it for a ton of industries too!
The URL is not in the documentation. DO you have any idea where to get it?
All relevant links are in the video description :)

Online of offline ? I m working on a whole world simulation project like MFS :)

any chance getting this work without API ?
I don't think so, I'm afraid
I Cesium 2 you don't need the api key and therefore no need for credit card info
Oh nice, thanks for this comment, I'll have to have a look at this.
Why not put a player in and walk around like some guy did in Unity?
Hi there, thanks for this comment/query but you'll have to check with the guys at Cesium to be sure.
whenever, i enter LAT, LON, the screen turns black in unreal engine 5.3. any suggestions

Maps tile is free?
Double check the Cesium docs to be sure.
When I try this I get a 404 error. Any thoughts??
Ah sorry, I can't offer this sort of support, reach out to Cesium for further info.
Can we put the entire moon into UE5?
I don't think so, haha!
I tried to go the Great Pyramids and it didn't work.
Ah really, strange 😶
You might need a visa dude 😅
this is driving me insane... what if you don't want the entire world but just a small section of a town?
Only works online. There's no offline version of this
Yeah I think that's correct.
Are you saying we can create a real globe earth with real scale model?
Sort of, but it only loads in tiles when zoomed in, you can't have the whole thing loaded at once!
