Mine had a similar problem with the clip coming loose I just bent it over a little further to tighten it up. Off the topic, have you had any issues with the fuel system and do you use a diesel fuel additive?
I bent it as well and it holds fine now. No issues with the fuel system. Have never used any additive in it either. I have used both Lucas Oil 10013 Upper Cylinder Lubricant Fuel Treatment, and BIOBOR Diesel Fuel Additive: JF, Biocide and Lubricant, and POWER SERVICE PRODUCTS Diesel Fuel Supplement for anti-gel in my bulldozer and excavators and they have always worked well.

Why not pop rivet a clip for it to catch on
