I love this song, you going into depth about each lyric is amazing I learnt so much more about this song I already love I love song reactions like this 😊
Yes, sir. Lupe's references a broad spectrum of retro pop culture. I love it knowing that some of the most corniest movies, cartoons, and other nostalgic memories, were enjoyed not only by me, but my favorite rapper, as well. My co-workers are almost 20 years young than I. So when we're listening to Lupe, they don't "get" most of the references. LETS GO 40+ club!!!
This song was a great concert opener the first time I saw him live. Happy to see you doing more Lupe, this album has a few good songs but it didn't hit with most his fans, Atlantic was pressuring him to make his lyrics more literal and less concept, this is the last album where they were pushing him around a lot as the contract is almost up. Bitch bad was good, put em up is a fun one I go back to, unforgivable youth is a good song but I don't care for the beat. His prime is probably considered his first two albums but a lot of fans, me included, favorite works are mostly after this album, plus his mixtapes which are also great. Edited for typo.
Ottoman Empire, Ghana Empire was a great Empire as well. The current Ghana which used to be called Gold Coast before and under the colonial rule was named after the Great Ghana Empire. I believe he is making that comparison. The hype the western empires and look down on great African Empires. Timbuktu for example is recorded to have the first university. Timbuktu is current day Mali in the west Africa which was also the head of the Ghana Empire. Actually that part pulled me to this song because I'm from Ghana and currently going through political struggle with the Dutch Government. I will tell you more about this when you respond and if you are interested. The team of the song fits my sound track so perfectly!. Cheers brother you are doing a great job breaking this down!
