In the world of chess, there are legendary players who have left an indelible mark on the game. One such player is Paul Morphy, often considered the greatest of all time (GOAT). Morphy’s success rate with the King’s Gambit, an aggressive chess opening, was truly remarkable.
In this lesson by GM Igor Smirnov, we will delve into the brilliance of Morphy’s King’s Gambit and explore how you can replicate his success. If you’re looking for an exciting and effective opening as White, this is the masterclass you need.
The King’s Gambit chess opening is initiated by the moves 1.e4 e5 2.f4, where White sacrifices a pawn to gain quick attacking chances and open up lines against Black’s king.
It is a daring and aggressive opening that can lead to thrilling games filled with tactical opportunities. Paul Morphy’s games provide us with a blueprint to understand the true potential of the King’s Gambit.
What makes Morphy’s games even more remarkable is their relevance even today. Despite being played almost 200 years ago, the moves made by Morphy’s opponents still resonate in amateur-level chess. This suggests that by studying Morphy’s games and understanding his approach, you can prepare for common responses and increase your chances of success with the King’s Gambit.

White play next after blk queen slides to white bishops original spot on universal opening for white
Igor please do a video for the Dutch opening
Paul Morphy has, without question, a most beautiful chess mind. His games could hang on the wall of an art museum! Thank you, Igor, for another great video. Keep the Morphy games coming!!!
👍
Who’s my most appreciated chess player… Morphy or Tal?!
Today Morphy because I’m watching his game today… Perhaps Tal depending what pops up in my feed.
I could beat him with one hand tied behind my back
@@VidaBlue317You love losing.
Exceptional 👍
Briliant brain of Morphy.
Why do you ALWAYS make videos of my favorite openings? Lol, thanks once again! Keep going!
Chess games then: I will sacrifice every pieces to beat you. It doesn't matter I will lose. Someone has to get knockouted.
Chess games now: I think I'll play London.
What happens when somebody plays Colorado Gambit or Denver Gambit or elephant Gambit Falkbear Gambit or a attack the king's side playing Black
I have been your subscriber for at Least 7 Months ago and your videos has learned me a tons of traps and I got my rating from 1200 to 1600. Thank u 😊
thank you, you're a very good instructor
Sir love you.Because of you My chess improves a lot.Thank you❤❤❤
Damn, that first game was really beautiful. How the heck did he see all of that blindfolded! These are the kind of games which make you go 'ooh!' and appreciate the true beauty of chess
Not just blind folded. He was only 12 years old.
At 5:36, there was also Queen to e6#, besides Queen c7# as played by Morphy in the game. So early in the game and white could choose how to checkmate his oponent! I have always been saying that the real GOAT was Morphy, and only then Fischer, Magnus, and Kasparov, as Morphy was the only one who didn't have such great predecesors and such plathora of chess material to learn from as the latter 3 had, not to mention computer engines that can give you and teach you the best moves from any given position, live coverage of chess tournaments with grandmasters analyzing every move, strategy, etc.

Great title for indeed the one and only true chess goat!
Will try to memorize that first game. I have been playing king's gambit wrong.
Morphy wasn't a chess player, he was an artist.
So most of his games are draws?
@@alphastorm88 😆
Great! I was just going over some of Morphy's king's gambit games yesterday. It's really cool stuff
Activity Activity Activity!!!!!!🔥🔥🔥
Wow.. Paul Morphy had balls of titanium!!!
I learned the opera game yesterday and noticed that Marphy was kinda an artist
a very instructive chess lessons. KUDOS TO THIS CHANNEL. BRAVO!!!
I love the games of Morphy and have played the kings gambit for about fifty five years, last thirty five of these I have played kings bishops gambit given the chance.
When I was 12-13 yo (circa 2000), I learned chess and became obsessed with it during the summer months along with my best friend. We ended up joining a local chess club, where I played "home tournaments" and got rated at 1400. My favorite opening with white was the King's Gambit, I had excellent results with this one and even seasoned casual players were caught off guard by this one. The speed at which you can gain positional dominance with this opening is quite impressive.
Awesome explanation & insight again, thanks man!
Vielen Dank.Super Video!
This opening definitely takes a genius mindset to master, also would love to see a van geet opening video
Thank you very much for your video !
Still looking for the best defense against kings-gambit!
Check out the Falkbeer counter gambit. It's one of the most annoying to deal with as a KG player.
Thank you for another great video! My only problem is that the last 7 times in a row that I played the King's Gambit as White, Black declined the gambit. In Morphy's day, I've heard that it was considered cowardly to decline a gambit.
It's not just me, then 🙂
I'd heard that same statement, myself. Especially as, Morphy was a Southern gentleman and, there were social implictions attached to every action a man made.
Serge, I love the way you say "bushop" 😊
Morphy! 🔥🔥
Top Class Video, Thanks
Glad you enjoyed it
Sir, your vedios are always impressive. Can u help me to understand how can I improve my chess. Although I practice my rating still is 1200 . What should I do to improve my raiting. Do reply

Hi master Igor, can you please 🙏 also put some games of another fantastic and a genius chess player unknown named sultan khan, who defeated all top chess players including jose Raul capablanca!
Cool suggestion!
In this line, what would be the best move after: 1. e4, e5, 2. f4, e5Xf4, 3. kn f3, d5??? how should white respond?
Good video
You're my favorite chess channel.. I want to watch everything from you❤❤🎉🎉
Wow, thank you!
@5m34 - Is Qe6 not also mate?
I lave paul morphy game
Thanks you coach , but what about king's gambit declined ?
Playing same opening for nearly 10 years but not master it sir.
Make new series for openings
At 2:20 , what if black plays knight to h6 instead of pawn to h6?
D4,take the centre while attacking f4
Better move!
Even stockfish doesn't play like this
Generally speaking…
The universal chess opening for white, what if blk queen slides to white bishops orginal spot? What’s white play next?
Paul just knew the best move. Amazing.
