It really looks like it ticks a lot of boxes. The size of it compared to the 52 makes it a real winner, in my opinion, even if that does come at the expense of a colour screen. If the TX audio is comparable to the 52 on FM, it would make it a bit of a no brainer just in non digital applications. As for the price? Fair enough, for 100quid more, you get a few more features with the 52, but also at the expense of size. But check your calendar. It's 2023 in a post covid world. Everything is expensive! This isn't even a fortnight's worth of groceries or a week's worth of rent for plenty of people, these days.
The id-50 is now on sale for 350 in the uk whick makes it nearly half the price of the id-52 60th edition iam now considering to upgrade my id-51 at this new price

Try to use it (or charge it) via the DC socket on the ID-51 , ICOM says this "Can I charge my ID-51E when it is turned on? Yes you can. Firstly connect the radio to an outlet with an optional CP-12L, CP-19R or OPC-254L. Then turn on the radio, press ‘MENU’, scroll to ‘Function’ and select. Then scroll to ‘Charging’ and select ‘Select ON’. If using a wall charger, note that it will not have enough power to run the set on transmit, although a DC lead from a higher ampage PSU will be fine. If running the set from an external DC source it will charge the battery, but may take longer if the radio is turned on at the same time. "
As a complete newb to this sort of stuff, will this transmit further than a £20 Chinese style radio? I’m looking at a new hand held and find myself amazed at the stagnation of the handhelds. No bluetooth is a deal breaker surely?
Bluetooth not necessarily a deal breaker. ‘Transmit further’? Probably not as most handhelds (from £20 Baofengs to multi-hundred pound Japanese handheld) transmit 5W. But the build quality, audio quality (transmit and receive) and general ‘feel’ of the radio will be far superior. I hope this helps!

This looks like a decent radio but I can’t see why you would go for this over say the FT5D that is cheaper and does similar if not more??

USB-c charging and more compact size. I agree though, this needed to be £350-£380 to make any sense.
Gud am my icom id51aplus won't turn on is it the battery be coz when i charge it to the cradle ir won't charge...
Have you tried to charge it by plugging the radio in, rather than using the cradle?

Better Quality and features . Some people that don’t mind spending money appreciate the better quality and performance over the ft5d.

ID-50 has terrible display. Downgrade ID model, shame.
It’s similar to the ID-51 which was discontinued a few years ago. I wouldn’t say terrible, but not as nice as the ID-52 that’s for sure.
