Hey, question for you or the tournament organizer. Did you guys rig up your camera set up for the tables or did they do that for the tournament? I'm trying to find out what braces are used to hold the cameras in place.
Can't believe my deck not only got in to the video, but won! Never expected it to be facing off in an actual modern tournament, but looks like it still put in some work. Loved the style of this video and looking forward to what you guys do next!
Thank you for your awesome decklist! It was so fun to pilot :) we'll be sending it to the address on your account in about a week and I hope you do better than I did with it 😅 I found it really creative

Wäre wirklich daran interessiert eine nicht-budget Version mal gegen meine Fische rennen zu sehen 😎 _________________________ Was incredibly fun to play against your deck. As a tribal player, my heart skipped a beat as i understood what was unfolding infront of me. Would love to see a non-budget version of your wizards run against my fishes 😎
You're welcome! In Carls win against me the deck looked like a normal prowess deck and I stumbled. So it can definetly be tweaked to be even better performing. Congrats!
Zombie Hunt is one of my favourite decks. Boseiju is a nice add to the land base. Witch's Cottage and man lands are also an option to give you a little more reach.
Gah! I love this budget series... something about Carl's energy always has me in his corner cheering for him! But can we take a second and appreciate the masterpiece of the Treasure Hunt deck?! What a unique and quirky combo!
And then, someone is really tryharding enough to hit it with discard + Surgical Extraction, while being at least 1000€ card value in the lead. Wellllllll....
Lavinia and Boromir say F U to all those free interactions - A blue/white control deck on a budget could easily compete - people are just too stuck on trends
The problem is just the lower power level of budget decks in general since you essentially have a smaller card pool to choose from, which has always been the same -- hence why optimized deck are almost never in a budget range. In most spots pictured the opposing interaction could've been not-free and would've worked the same. (Also out of the three decks prowess is the only budget deck aimed for competitiveness hbh; the other two were just kinda meme decks)
This video might not get that many likes, but I seriously hope you give this type of video another chance. I think the reason people don’t like it as much is just that modern is at a stage where this idea doesn’t quite work since the new cards are just so prevelant. I think this format would be way more fun in pioneer or pauper and would love to see it in one of those
Actually it seems to be doing OK :D which is thrilling to me because this was so much fun to make. If it does well, we'll definitely be doing this again at paupergeddon in Rome :)
i agree with the state of modern, their game 1 matchup is really boring with all the MM evokes, leyline binding, and orcish bowmaster. I hope they make this continually since a non meta deck is always fun!
@@aprofessionalcitizen9030actually mono Blue spirits aggro Is around 70€ and it's capable of winning in pioneer, it's even in the meta but not as high as other decks unfortunately (i play It and also Lotus field combo that Is also not that expensive if you cut some things out)
I'm amazed you managed to make footage you captured at a small paper tournament look this good, esp considering you were recording three different matches most of the time! Really well done video, like many commentors have said I'd love to see this again esp for Pauper.
Holy shit somebody actually sent in Zombie Hunt, what a legend! I was hoping for it when I saw the first few clips of the deck doing nothing and I nearly pissed myself laughing when I saw Fele playing the Treasure Hunt. Would have sent that deck in myself if I didn't already have it :D
This fast paced editing was very hard to follow for someone that does not know all the cards or the meta so sadly have to disagree. Would have liked this video if it was voice overed but basicly no cuts of the gameplay and the normal cardsmarket zoom in to explain cards.
🎉 I think you did a great job. Thank you for playing my deck Thoralf, I bet it wasn't fun losing all day. Congratulations to Matthew for winning the competition! :D And of course cheers to the Zombie Infestation deck and it's submitter!
I think it was a neat deck but it seemed to me that with Fury and friends running rampant rn it's just that much harder to win anything with a budget deck...
From the States, I love how much fun you guys have doing crazy events like this. I love also that you give cards, decks and card markets sway away to your patrons and other MTG tourny peoples. Great channel. Really enjoy the clean fun content
NGL this is def a fun segment. The deck Karl ran was the only one with a proper set win so props there. The zombie infestation deck though has to be the most hilarious jank I've ever seen though. I absolutely love it
Fele's type of deck is always the most entertaining to me to see people react to. No one ever expects a deck where it's almost entirely lands, and seeing them see all the lands show up before one card hits is really funny.
This just reminds me of the days, of casual budget decks in a tournament are a thing of the past more or less. Even the casual events and FNG, people bring expensive decks with other peoples web decks.

@@CardmarketMagic Yeah! That makes more sense, maybe you should try to organize a FNM? I "meant" to say, just reminds me of when I went to FNM to try a new brew just to run into the same (4) Decks and same cards over and over like you all did. I love your videos!
Dude I wish I went to a random magic tournament and just saw you guys. I been playin magic since ice age, on and off. You guys are great. Also the editing ins FIRE in this video.
I love weird gimmick decks like Fele was playing. It might be fun to have a small tourney with gimmick decks, or one trick pony decks. I had a Standard deck years ago with the first Kamigawa set. It was 5 color Zubera that used Devouring Greed as a finisher. Actually went 3 and 3 with that weird deck.
13:00 I believe the burden counter gets added to the ring as part of the resolution. Therefore Max should only get to draw 2 cards after untapping and activating the ring again, gaining 4 life, and then draw 3 cards after for the first activation. It would put Max at 9 life instead of 11. Probably wouldn't have mattered since Carl chose not to draw cards but would have made the difference if he topdecked another lightning bolt. Easy to miss interaction so I'm sure it was an honest mistake but I just thought I'd point it out.
This was so much fun! Congrats on the top-tier voice work and editing, really impressive stuff. Felt like I was right there cheering you on from the sidelines :)

a 2-4 record for the "winner" of the contest is absolutely playing for content also, that Wizard Ring deck looks so fun and if i were to advise one thing for trying to make Treasure Hunt work, play Nephalia Academy. it's perfect against Thoughtseize and Grief on the play, especially since you're likely to lose game 1 since you're basically on a meme deck. and with a playset being only a dollar at best, it fits perfectly into the budget strategy
A narrative from Pokemon Worlds was that "You only need $40 to play Pokemon, so you should join" since then I have been curious on budget performance in current Yugioh and MTG
This video…the games, the writing, the structure…all of it was spot on! Huge props for this one it was an absolute delight to watch. You guys got something really special here.
Love this series as is. Change nothing! It's interesting to see the decks, win or lose. For me the modern format usually isn't interesting because it seems to be mostly just ModHzn cards, but these brews are really fun and make much more use of the non-rotating cardpool.
Competitive magic seems entirely unfun lol. 90 Euro lands and Incarnation spam in every single game. As soon as I saw Treasure Hunt and the lands I knew it was Zombie Infestation, I made that deck a few years ago and it's an absolute GEM
in theory standard exists as a format that is still competitive and fun but kind of approachable for new players, but one of the biggest bombs played in this entire video is a standard card lol
Gotta love the casual GRV Max performed against Carl, (The One Ring adds a counter on resolution so it should have been tapped, response with Flame of Anor to kill sheoldred, untap ring tap again, put counter number 2 draw 2 gain 4, then flame dies, then ring resolves again going up to 3 counters drawing 3 cards), followed straight up by what looks like a missed detrimental trigger? (clearly had untapped between the ring going up to 3 counters and the end of that game, but somehow was still on 11 life instead of the 8 with the prior GRV mistake or 6 without it)
This was a fun idea and I’m glad to see you guys out and about! Modern unfortunately seems like a horrible place to be trying out new things and creature based strategies right now though. Better luck next time!
Ah yes, the Treasure Hunt + Zombie Infestation + basic lands was the first magic deck I have ever assembled. The crowning achievement was when I beat a splinter twin deck with it that was worth over a thousand Euros... well I took one game...... Those early days planted the seeds for my love of jank that still grows strong to this day

Hey Cardmarket!
I have a challenge for you. A format me and my friends invented called "Double Commander"
The Rules are kind of simple
> You have two commanders (which can be any two legendary cards including artifacts and enchantments but excluding lands)
> And you have to build the deck in the color of the commanders
> The deck is 60 cards with singleton rules excluding basic lands
> The starting life is 30
Additional notes
Backgrounds are banned and cards with partner and similar mechanics are also banned from the command zone
Your deck cannot have a Companion
Popular Double Commanders Include some common themes
Tribal Commander (Runo Stormkirk and Kenessos)
Similar Strategy Commanders (Landfall with Omnath Locus of Creation and Yarok)
And aggro(?) (Having a legendary equipment like embercleave and another creature, Yargle and Multani in my friends deck)

I also wanted Fele to win, but I'm happy that Carl was the winner
I also wanted Fele to win :) his deck was so cool! But I had to fight my best fight for Matthew 😎
That zombie infestation deck was so good, it's a travesty of justice it didn't get an actual win
The beauty of this video is to see cards and deck different from the usual... Maybe internet didn't see all decklists, after all!
IMO best type of series/content on your channel.
Thoralf's lamentations about the internal conflict of Crab vs NoCrab is the same conflict in all of us. Truely Shakespierian
This video…the games, the writing, the structure…all of it was spot on! Huge props for this one it was an absolute delight to watch. You guys got something really special here.
Your stuff just becomes better and better! How is this even possible? WTF! I am very afraid for Carls mad genius in making magic videos!
I love this idea that you try the decks out at a real tournament! hope it will be a reoccuring series now
Love this series as is. Change nothing! It's interesting to see the decks, win or lose. For me the modern format usually isn't interesting because it seems to be mostly just ModHzn cards, but these brews are really fun and make much more use of the non-rotating cardpool.
That is Wizard's and Ring deck is basically the Historic Deck from Arena, that thing is Brutal (in Historic, clearly outclassed here)
Competitive magic seems entirely unfun lol. 90 Euro lands and Incarnation spam in every single game.
As soon as I saw Treasure Hunt and the lands I knew it was Zombie Infestation, I made that deck a few years ago and it's an absolute GEM
those lands we're some special rare foil edition, ofcourse those are expensive if you buy the regular version most shocks are 10 euros or less
@@MrBigfatcookiemonstestill way too much for a land lol, I'm perfectly fine paying $0.07 for fetchable tap lands for our kitchen table games lmao
in theory standard exists as a format that is still competitive and fun but kind of approachable for new players, but one of the biggest bombs played in this entire video is a standard card lol
As someone who doesn't play Magic, and has no idea what anything actually does...
Why are Leyline and Solitude allowed if they seem to autowin games?
Had to pause the video to say. Man love these new animations. Looks so sweet :)
I'm happy you enjoy the video :) and the animations
Well done mates. Those were some reaching decks for modern but creative and in the budget.
(clearly had untapped between the ring going up to 3 counters and the end of that game, but somehow was still on 11 life instead of the 8 with the prior GRV mistake or 6 without it)
Great idea, I'm sick of seeing the convoke elementals though... oh well I'm sure mh3 will make them obsolete anyway
This was a fun idea and I’m glad to see you guys out and about! Modern unfortunately seems like a horrible place to be trying out new things and creature based strategies right now though. Better luck next time!
"I have a Twinsnot Shiper"
that made me laugh!
xD
jeez props to the writers that was a hell of an edit
I wish we had writers 😅 but it was just us talking about our matches. But thanks :)
@@CardmarketMagic Yeah, i saw your BTS about it, you still had to pick the clips to tell three stories at once, fast!
Bigger budget. Definitely.
I want to send my Jund "Ballin' at Every Cost" list your way. Lol
Love the video even if i wasn't select. The zombie infestation was very nice
I absolutely love this concept, used it to get two friends from pioneer into modern
Really cool video idea; looking forward to what you have next!
Ah yes, the Treasure Hunt + Zombie Infestation + basic lands was the first magic deck I have ever assembled. The crowning achievement was when I beat a splinter twin deck with it that was worth over a thousand Euros... well I took one game...... Those early days planted the seeds for my love of jank that still grows strong to this day
Whata great Video ! Ty Guys as Always for the great Work and ur great mood!
Thank you :) I'm happy you enjoyed it!
How are you doing?
I lost.
You only have 2 lands in play?
YES
nice! good job cardmarket!
I'm confused how does flame kill the kaldra germ at 7:30? It has indestructible??? I didn't see any dress down
There was a soul-scar mage on the board :) so damage is done in -1/-1 counters
excited to watch this, though i still doubt modern is welcoming to low budgets and such ...
14:08 Thoralf kills me lmao
Brilliant idea and easily the best series idea y’all have had! AND THATS SAYING A LOT
I will forever call Mindslaver "Minslaver" fromt this point going forward.
